Black Angel#4: Medusa's Temple

As I've been asking myself from the beginning, why me? What did I do to deserve this? Wondering through dark, dank caverns. Sure this is what everyone my age is doing. Sneaking through caves to save the person they care about from a Demon of hell. This is crazy! This has been crazy since she and I found out what our purpose is. We are angels of the Darkness, better known as BlackAngels. Funny when you think about it though. Out of billions of people I'm the one who gets picked to do this job.

Anyway, right now I'm concerned about one thing: Iris. She is my teammate and best friend. I will not let her die.

Enough emotional sulking, I have to focus. I have to find her and I have to find her fast, before anything happens to her.

I've been walking for about an hour and I haven't sensed any energy. Where are they? I keep scanning back and forth with the cybernetic lens that has replaced my left eye. I can't believe it! There's nothing around here! I need to find something, anything…there! Finally! The only problem is that the source of the energy is at the bottom of a very steep ravine. This would be a problem to anyone else, but not to me.

As I fly down to the energy source I see that the energy around it is red, that figures. So this is one of Hell's barracks.

I look closer and I see two rather enormous Demons. No problem, I wait for the right moment and then I attack. I zip towards one guard and I cut off his mid-section. Before the other guard has time to react I crack open his skull. As I finish off this demon the one that I sliced in half lets out a breath of fire. I jump up and behind the disembodied torso and I take him out. I stand in front of their carcasses and I look up only to see what I was told was down here: The Temple of Medusa. I walk through the entrance fully unaware of what is ahead of me but I know that I will be ready for whatever it can be.

Inside I find the worst of my nightmares. Man has never dreamt of what I see before me now. Nor would man ever want to dream of it for he would be dead the next morning due to heart failure. Inside I see a corridor made of human flesh and bone. Blood drips from the ceiling and hits the floor with a lonely echo running down the hallway. As I walk down I see cages made of the bones of human legs and arms. Inside these cages are soon to be warriors. They reach out towards me, whether they want my help, need me for food, or they just want me dead, I do not know. Their moans are the most painful noises that any person could ever mutter. These moans sound like those of souls tormented for centuries that know that their fate is a doomed fate. If I could I would free them. But that was their fate, I cannot change it, right? But as I keep on walking down the endless hallway the moans begin to grow louder. The sound floods my ears and tears at my mind until I can't take it anymore. I then burst out into tears and anger. I bolt down the corridor as fast as possible. If this is just a training ground then I dread what Hell is like.

At the end of the corridor there is a large arena. I've never seen a dome so enormous. What's awkward about this arena is that walls have holes, thousands upon thousands of holes. From these holes can be heard an assorted symphony of growling and snarling. I've never been so fucking terrified of anything before.

"WELCOME DRAKAN!" Says the lispy voice of a woman. I look across the room to the other entrance. A gigantic doorway exactly like the one I'm standing in. In front of that door stands the infamous bitch that the temple is named after. Her hair is a tangled mass of snakes whose hissing drowns out the snarls in the background. "I was hoping you would make it."

"What the fuck do you want, bitch?"

"Oh, so vulgar and to the point too. I like that in my men." Her green scaled skin isn't exactly what I call a turn on. Though she has a great body, I take it Hell's army doesn't bother wearing any clothes while underneath the surface of the Earth. Funny, she has legs. I remember reading about her having the end tail of a snake that she moved on. "Well, I hope you'll enjoy the exercise I have planned for you. If you survive it, then come to the Throne Room. Iris and I will be waiting for you there. Good luck." She walks back through the doorway and the door slams behind her. After that the door behind me does the same. Next, the snarls and growls turn into screams and cackles, which are flooded out by an unbelievable sound of flapping wings. I look up to see the mixed color of black and red.

"Ahhh… fuck me! FUCK ME!" NO! No, I can't be afraid. Fear is a weakness that will easily lead to defeat. I have to be strong. I am strong. I can take them. "I CAN TAKE YOU ALL!" I fly up and start swinging my arms like a mad man. I jump off of one demon to the next, taking them out as though they are nothing. My bladed fists pound into their chests and heads, tearing them apart one by one. Blood splatters over the walls, on to the ceiling, and to the floor. They drop to the floor as raindrops on an April afternoon. I keep this pattern up until the last one falls, then land in front of the door. I'm a bloody mess, some of the blood is mine but the majority of it is that of Hell's recruits. That was easy. Am I really that good? So good that I can take out an outrageous brigade of demons without using firepower? The thought quickly passes and I think about Iris. I slam my body into the door knocking it down with a loud thud.

Great, another fucking corridor. This one was built a lot nicer than the last one. The hall is arched with ribs and between each arch are rows of skulls plastered with flesh and blood. Like I said this is not for those with faint hearts. Another thing about this hallway is the putrid odor of rotting flesh and organs. A stench so thick that I can feel my stomach begin to churn with each step I take. Soon my nose burns because of this foul odor. But it doesn't bother me much for I've come to the end of the corridor. At the end was the Throne Room, decorated with statues of men, women, children, Demons, and Angels. All who have stepped out of line and tried to oppose her. The throne she sits on is a complex stitching of skulls, hands, and arms.

"So you made it."

"Yeah bitch, I made it. Care to explain what the fuck this is all about?"

"Lucifer does not explain his business purposes to his minions. He simply tells us what to do and we do it. So tell me Drakan, what do you think of my home?"

"First off, let me say that you, lady, are one twisted fuck. Second, I don't believe you when you say you don't know the purpose of playing games with us."

"Seriously, I don't" She shoots an arrow at me which I dodge with ease.

"Please, you're going to need more than arrows to hold me off."

"You'd be amazed…" She shoots arrow after arrow at me. If it's one thing I've noticed about these so called "warriors" it's that they don't really know how to fight, they just know how to constantly keep you on your toes by firing shit at you at a rapid pace. With that thought in mind I remember my last fight with an Angel and refuse to repeat another dull affair. I run past her and snatch the bow out of her hands, breaking it in two.

"So you want to have an actual combat?"

"I think I expressed that with simplicity, don't you?"

"So it would seem."

"Then let's rock." I throw the first punch but she grabs my fist and flings me across the room. I land into a statue, shattering it to pieces as though it were cheap glass. I look around but I can't see that fucking bitch anywhere. Then she falls down from some rafter above me and slams her fists into my stomach. Yet another strange rafter that looks like a cracked rib. What in the fuck kind of creature is so large that it has a rib that is the size of an overpass?

Once again, I've lost sight of her. How fast is she? She answers my question by coming out of nowhere, smacking me around like some kind of bitch, and then running off again. All right, you cunt, two can play at this game. I wait for her to make her next move and I see the green blur come towards me yet again. She swings but I instantly dodge and reply with a swift kick to her jaw. This sends her to the ground in which case I jump up and prepare for a landing on her left breast. She screeches in pain and springs up from the floor. Her eyes burn a bright crimson and then they turn a cold gray. She leaps forward at me and tackles me. Pinning me to the ground she gets close, face to face. She tries to make eye contact with me. Fat fucking chance. Within a blink of the eye I put my foot in her groin and flip the bitch off of me.

"Ohhh…come on, Drakan! Don't you want to play with me?"

"Fuck no, you ugly snake!"

"Such a good little soldier boy…all work and no play…"

"Shut up!" I soar up to her and unleash a combination of punches that move faster and hit harder than the concrete smashing force of a jackhammer. This leaves her dazed as her head is spinning in circles on her slimy shoulders. I pull back and slam the last punch right between her breasts. She falls to the ground and begins to gasp for air.

Since she is temporarily distracted I take the opportunity to release Iris.

"You alright?"

"I guess I'm okay. Looks like you've seen better days though."

"No, I'd have to say that this is one of my better days." And of course, when I say this, Medusa recovers and prepares for another round.

"Ohhhhhh…Draaaaaaaaakkaaaaaaaan. Come play with me, Draaaaakaaaaaaan." Goddamn it! It's time to end this bullshit!

"Enough is enough!" I unsheathe my blades and I run towards her. She does a bicycle kick and kicks me in the jaw. This sends me to the ground but I get back up as though nothing happened. I try to tackle her again but this time she grabs me by the throat and pins me to the wall.

"Look into my eyes, my dear Drakan." Her eyes glow a dark crimson again and then they turn to a bright lunar gray.

"Nice try, but I don't think so." An uppercut to her ribcage and through the heart, I win. She pulls back as though shocked by an electrical charge. I get ready to make the finishing move when I white flash comes out of nowhere. When my eyes regain focus I see Medusa's corpse lying on the floor with her head in two separate halves. I look around for what caused this and my lens picks up a blur of yellow. I see the Angel with his ivory wings and diamond plated broadsword. In his arms lies the whole purpose of me coming down here. He has Iris.

"Well, looks like all that effort for nothing. Sorry Drakan, but we have her now. If you want her back, you can try to come get her. But I promise you, you'll not succeed. We…Angels are a lot stronger than some General of Hell is. Farewell, Drakan." With that he flies through the fucking ceiling and into some bright yellow light. The only thing I can do to respond to this action is yell. My yell is from more than my lungs, more than my vocal cords, but from my heart. A yell that is so booming that it shakes and cracks the ground that I am standing on. This yell is followed by fire coming out of my eyes. Blue fire that is so strong when it burns that the lens on my eye explodes. Following the eyes my entire body becomes engulfed with blue fire. I can feel the heat of my anger increase. The cackling fire surrounding me is the rage that is inside of me. I feel it burning with a power I've never felt before. And as an uncontrollable instinct I follow the potent jasmine smell left behind by the Angel. I burst through layers of hardened earth as though it didn't exist.

"COME ON, MOTHERFUCKER! WHERE ARE YOU?! WHERE'D YOU GO?! WHEN I FIND YOU, YOU'RE DEAD!" As I'm half way through the sky a purple blur hits me, sending me into a lake. I come out of the lake ready for whatever hit me.

"ALL RIGHT! WHO THE FUCK…"

"It's me Drakan. Calm down. Before you try and take on Heaven, you're going to need more training."

"How do you suggest that I do this, Lillith?"

"Come with me and I'll show you." I follow Lillith to this little opening in the ground. It reminds me somewhat of a cellar door outside of a house. We enter this door, go down the stairs, and walk down this hallway which leads to an elevator. The elevator is just your average elevator like the type you'd find anywhere. She presses the button marked "SUB7" and the elevator begins to descend.

"So what is this place?"

"This, Drakan, is Nod. It is one of the five Enlightened bases in the world. The others are in Egypt, China, Britain, and Brazil. Nod bases have many features, including medical clinics, research labs, training rooms, barracks, armories, and pretty much anything else you can imagine. Where I'm taking you is one of the most advanced training rooms. It is designed to make you stronger and faster by using magnetic force which pulls your body against the walls."

"How do I train if I can't move?"

"You'll be able to move within time. It will take you maybe a day or two to get used to the magnetic force." A ring chimes and the elevator doors open to reveal an endless hallway of steel doors. We begin to walk down this hallway. "In the training room you will teach yourself to enhance the strength of your powers. You will be put up against computer generated opponents, these opponents are very realistic though. Than can hurt you, in fact they are programmed to kill you. Any questions?"

"How long will I be doing this a day?"

"As long as you are awake. You see you're going to spend a year in this room without ever leaving it."

"A YEAR?!"

"Oh, it's not that bad. You've already spent two years in a room similar to it. How do you think we trained you before? You're going to learn how to survive. You'll receive three glasses of blood a day."

"Why blood?"

"Well that is what we use to gain energy. Until now you've probably thought that vampires drink blood. They don't though. They eat the hearts of living creatures. We, the Enlightened, are the ones that the legends tell about, not vampires. You probably wondered why you had fangs, didn't you?" She's right, I haven't been so thirsty as I am now. I lick my lips feeling the thirst grow stronger.

We approach a room at the end of the hallway. She presses a few buttons on the panel to the left of the doors and they swish open revealing a tremendous atmosphere. The room is ten times the size of any arena, and I'm not exaggerating.

"Put these on." She says handing me a heavy white shirt, black jeans, a dark blue trenchcoat, and black metal boots.

"What's the point of wearing these?"

"This outfit plus your gauntlets have metal in them. Your gauntlets are made out of a substance that we've invented. It is called Diamontalium. It has the unbreakable strength of a diamond but put into metal. Your clothes have many pieces of iron sown into them. This allows the effect of the magnetic room to work. Over a gradual period of time we will increase the magnetic force so that every month that you're in here you will get stronger."

"When does the training begin?"

"As soon as you're ready."

"I need something to drink first." She hands me a glass from a counter nearby. I chug the red liquid and I feel power surging through my veins. I am rejuvenated off of it. Nothing has ever tasted so good nor given me such energy.

"Are you ready, Drakan?" she asks me.

"Let's rock." I reply.

She walks over to this door in the wall and goes inside of it. A stand there for a few minutes with my muscles ready to explode preparing for whatever may come. The enormous space turns black and when light pours into the room again I appear to be in an Amazon jungle. Nice effect.

I hear a loud whirring sound, which sounds somewhat like a helicopter's blades as it is about to take off, and I feel a little bit of resistance tugging at me. As the sound gets louder the resistance grows stronger. Soon I am struggling to keep my feet on the grassy floor. Finally I give up the struggle and my body is lifted up. I get pulled through a few trees before I hit the wall like some kind of bug hitting a car windshield on the highway. I can't move my arms or my legs. I'm stuck here. I then get angry at the fact that I can't move for I hate being disabled. That same anger that I found inside of me at Medusa's Temple comes back. I guess it's like an adrenaline rush but an enhanced adrenaline rush. With the power from this I'm able to lift my arms off the wall. Since my arms are free I use them to push the rest of my body away from the force. I do a swan dive to the ground gracefully as an Olympic diver would into a pull. I flip my body right side up before I hit the ground and land on my feet. The adrenaline rush goes away but I don't get sucked back to the wall. Hmmm. Does that mean that every time I do this, I get stronger?

I look up at the acres of fake forest and I wonder how extreme the training going to be.
