Black Angel#5: The Training Begins

I stand amongst the trees and feel as they do. I am tall, strong, and almost unmovable. However I didn't know that my thoughts of my skills were going to be proven wrong. Amazing how they can call this a simulation when it seems so real. From the tiniest sound of rustling branches to the faintest odor of the leaves and pine.

As I stand here I ponder when the first creature will strike at me and what creature that would be. My question is immediately responded to by the sound of a rather large body of some sort moving so fast among the forest floor that wind cutting through the air brings up the leaves behind the beast. I see a dark silhouette soar up to a high branch in one of the redwoods. I watch as it leaps from branch to branch with the accuracy of a squirrel. I try to keep track of the beast but it is moving at ungodly speeds. And without any warning a claw slashes the back of my head. A gush of blood spurts out from my skull but heals within minutes. Looks like I should be a little bit more aware and prepared for anything and everything possible. After all, the world I'm in is computer generated, anything of the possible or the impossible can happen at any minute.

I turn around to take quick glimpse of the enormous demon before he impales me with his claws. His razor-sharp talons stick into my rib cage far enough to lift me up and toss me through the forest. The wounds in my torso seal up and disappear. If I didn't have this healing factor I would be fucked. The demon soars through the branches with a single jump and almost lands on my legs. I jump up and hide among the shrubbery. This little fucker is a nasty one. Brownish-black scales, razor fangs and talons, leg and arm muscles that could easily tear me in half, and a pair of dark, glowing red eyes. If it's one thing that I'm hoping for is that the programming is as realistic as I hope. You see, in the past few months I've done a lot of fieldwork and I've studied the main difference between Heaven's Angels and Hell's Demons. Angels actually go through training. Not just one type of training either, training like I've gone through, every type of training known to man. That's why I hate fighting Angels. They are as well trained in combat as I am. In fact, like me, they know all the types of combat man has ever created. And, like me, they are masters at it. Hell, however, fights with pure rage. None of their warriors go through training. They are told to fight on what they have, instinct. Which doesn't go very far, unless you have a rather large sum of warriors, which they do. Amazing how much one can learn in a few months.

I look down for the demon, but he's no longer there. Hmmm. I look around at the other trees but I don't see him. Wonder where he went to? As I ponder his vanishing act I feel warm air hit the hairs on the back of my neck.

"You clever little shit." I manage to utter from my lips before he sends me to the ground again. I've had enough of this pinning game. I jump up into the air and come back down on his spinal cord. The force was so strong that his back now curves at a right angle that bends the exact opposite of what it should. If those fuckers feel pain, then I've severely pissed him off. I end it quickly with the usual double slash of my psi-blades. One through the head, about an inch and a half up from the temples, and one through his scaly chest, a little bit to the left of the middle. His body hits the ground with a instant thud. Piece of fucking cake.

It's been probably two months now since I've started and I still haven't explored the whole forest. I've killed so many demons I can't even remember the count. But I still haven't fought or even seen an Angel. Which isn't what I expected because I do recall that the purpose of my training was to go against Heaven and survive. The magnetic wall idea works great. I've never felt so strong nor moved so fast in my life. Tons feel like pounds and seconds seem like minutes. Every time that it becomes "nighttime" it gets cold so I uproot the nearest tree, slice to firewood size, and use my own energy as a lighter. Funny how my own powers are all I need to survive in the wilderness.

Each morning I wake up to the sound of inhumanly growling coming from the forest brush. I fly to this amazing waterfall I found about a month ago (I'm guessing on the time length) and I take a bath underneath it. This morning is a different one though for this morning I find out that I am not the only Enlightened training in this forest. As I am bathing underneath the waterfall I see this head pop out of the water. Her curly, shoulder-length, blonde hair clings to her neck as she rises from the water. She swims over towards the waterfall not even noticing that I am near it. To save myself from embarrassment and awkwardness I jump into the river and swim away from her path. However she hears me do this and is somewhat startled. She stops swimming and calls out to me.

"Wherever you are you'd better reveal yourself! Do you hear me?! Show yourself now!"

I swim out of my hiding place in the corner bank of the river and show my face in plain view yet the rest of my naked body is hidden by the water.

"Why hello." She says swimming towards me as I begin to blush. "You must be the other person Lillith told me about. Drakan, right?"

"That's right, and you are?"

"Celestia." She nods her head at me. "There's no need to be shy, you have a great body."

"Oh…" I nervously reply. "So do you." One bad-ass motherfucker but can't talk to women worth a shit. She's inconceivably beautiful though. An amazing body, a dazzling face that the stars themselves couldn't reflect the beauty she beholds. And inside of this unbelievable package I sense the most noble, honest, loyal, caring, warm soul ever existing. Yes Celestia is definitely the right name for her for she is very heavenly. Of course now that I now the truth of religion, the adjective "heavenly" has a different meaning.

We get dressed and agree to team up for the remainder of our training. It appears she and I were going to meet eventually for she is assigned to help me along with three others. The others entered with her but somehow she was separated from the group and she has been separated from them for about a month now (or so it seemed a month to her, she wasn't sure).

Celestia has a sister whom I have met before. Her name is Critia.

"Critia wasn't ready for any on-field battle, but I was. So they sent me to accompany you on your determined quest."

"So are you Mother Nature like your sister?"

"Somewhat, I control many things of nature along with the elements. Watch and see." The ground beneath me started to move as the roots of the trees rose around me and entangled me so that I could not move.

"Impressive," I stated "But not enough to hold someone like me." My anger burned as adrenaline filled my bloodstream. The heat around my body was so scorching hot it could boil water. With an explosion equal to that of spontaneous human combustion, fire surrounded my body instantly. The roots around me burned away as though it was tissue paper.

"So where are the others?" I asked.

"I don't know." She said with an innocence in her voice. She's so cute. Hmmm…could it be that a cold soul like my own can actually find warmth in this girl?

A white light shines from the brush of the leaves. I look over and see a man dressed in white. His ivory hair flows behind him as he gracefully floats over to us. Perfect, just as heaven teaches them to be.

"Repent now and join us. It's where you belong. You belong among the heavens."

"I belong to the place that spawned me, I belong to the place that I live off and depend to survive. I belong to the Earth as you once did. It is you who have sinned! You have betrayed the one thing that gave you life."

"NO! Heaven created the Earth! It belongs to Heaven and we will rightfully claim it back and mold it into what we desire."

"Well I'd hate to be unoriginal, but over my dead body!" Yes, I realize that I'm talking to a computer generated Angel, but hey, it's good practice.

"Then so be it." He gives a Biblical yet cool approach on the delivery of speech. Gotta hand it to these Angels. They can be evil but in a good way. He dashes at me with these wicked and twisted flamberge blades. The "sunlight" reflects off the golden handles and silver-like blades. I have no idea what unknown metal they actually use to carve their weapons out of, but it's pretty fucking strong. He fakes a move towards my chest and hits me in the leg. The surprise comes when my leg remains scratchless and one of his blades shatters like fragile glass on concrete.

"That's fucking crazy!" I remark. How long have I been training for? Granted I've been sucked to the wall plenty of times and had to pull my self off. Am I really that fucking strong now? I wonder how strong my new friend is? With that question being pondered my answer comes immediately. The Angel goes towards her with his remaining blade coming down on her head. She grabs it and breaks it in two. Not a drop of blood is shed from the palm of her hand. This is insane. I know what it is. It's the fucking program. Computers can come close to generating the whole thing but they can't be a hundred percent accurate. That's why the blade doesn't cut, it's not even metal!

I watch as her swift movements get blocked one by one. Each swift movement is a flash to the untrained eye. She moves with swan-like grace and inconceivable speed. She is…amazing. Although she is amazing to me, she is making no process with her opponent. He is blocking each of her attempts with only one of ivory-coated arms. He finally becomes bored, picks her up and tosses against the thickness of one of the nearby trees. I'm about to jump in but she gets up immediately and tackles him. As he is pinned to the ground she takes extreme hatred into her actions and the graceful movements I witnessed before are now furious, deadly poundings. Most of us Enlightened have fire to show our rage. Our bodies project it around us when we have snapped and we are fighting on rage and natural instincts. This girl is different. She is made from natures core. Her rage generates lightning, which sparks around her body rampantly and rapidly. Each hit makes a thunderous clap against the Angels body. This observation allows me to realize that in order to fight these fuckers we Enlightened have to use the one thing inside of us that gives us an ungodly amount of power, strength, and speed. That one thing is our anger, our hatred, our rage.

This Angel is furious and with an ear-piercing scream that decorates the air with a glorious illumination he gathers whatever strength he has left and tosses her into the air. He follows her up into the air, bicycle kicks her body towards the ground, and as a finishing touch grabs her on her descent downwards and slams her into the "earth". Looks like it's my turn. All right, motherfucker, let's rock.

"Come here bitch!" I shout grabbing his head and bashing it in with my kneecap. "How's that? Do you like that? Ya want more? Too bad!" I pull at his right arm and bring it behind his neck, against the shoulder joint. This dislocates it with a rather loud popping noise. He comes at me with left arm swinging madly. He's pretty pissed.

I avoid his barbaric swings with ease. I could dodge his pathetic attacks all day. But I think it would just be easier to fight back. He swings at my head and I take hold of his remaining arm. I bend this arm against its elbow joint making a another loud snapping noise. He responds to this with an upper kick to my chin. This sets me back a little bit and leaves me off-guard for a brief second. However that brief second is just enough time for him to unleash his wrath on me. He jumps up into the air and unloads kick after kick into my person. I'm getting to dazed by this I need to pull myself together. When you get hit as many times as I am now, you get pissed. Anger is what I need to win this battle. I feel that burn once again. That burning sensation that hurts yet it feels so good. Sadistic? Yes it is. But when you feel the fire flowing through your body, when see it burst out of your pores, cover your skin, and notice that it doesn't scorch you in the slightest bit. It's when that moment comes and makes anything inside of you that showed that you were a civilized person is now replaced by a barbaric beast relying on his instincts and his power to survive. That is the moment you feel unbeatable and godlike. That is the moment you feel invincible. That is the moment I live for and live on. It's the irreplaceable rush of energy that cannot be replicated by any drug on the black market. It's unbelievable and I love it.

I hear the sizzling of his fake skin burn with each punch. While spending my time fighting nothing but demons in the long time I've been in this place, I've learned a few new tricks. One of these tricks is how to focus my energy. For instance, whenever one of the Enlightened snaps flame surrounds their entire body. However I've learned to focus that flame on to one point of my body doing ten times as much damage. Like right now while I'm impounding this Angel's body. I've focused that fire to my fists making each punch even more powerful than they would be before. Hot enough to burn third degree burns into his skin. What else can I say but…beautiful. I think he's had enough punishment for I've scorched him entirely. I land a final punch, which throws him to the nearest tree. As he rests himself against the tree I unsheathe my toys. These happy little psi- blades are the best hand-to-hand weapons anyone could ask for. You might be wondering what are psi-blades and what do they do? Well psi-blades are blades of psionic energy, energy that is created by the mind. This energy is powerful enough to disintegrate anything just by its touch. It's the deadliest weapon known to man. And I've got two gauntlets, which can produce fifteen-inch blades of it. I walk up to the Angel as his charred self is lying on the gnarled tree trunk.

"Well my friend, it's been fun." I make two quick thrusts into his chest and in the middle of his skull. My aim has become almost pinpoint now.

"Well darling, did you enjoy the show?"

"Interesting."

"Looks like you could use some more practice. Care to try out on me?"

"I…I don't know."

"Come on, show me what you can do."

"Okay."

"I won't even attack you. Just give me demonstration of your powers." She gives me one hell of a demonstration. The roots of the trees enwrap my wrists and ankles and lift me upside down off the ground. I get out of this easily by cutting the roots holding my wrists first. I swing back and forth until I have enough swing to reach the branches holding my ankles. I cut these branches, do a few flips, land on the ground, and jokingly do an Olympic-like standing pose. She spoils my fun by encasing me with the dirt around me. Cute, but not strong enough to hold me back. With the simplicity of expanding my muscles I bust out of the earth encasement.

"Quit trying to hold me back and attack me." She attacks with a spiral of icicles. I let each of them seep into my skin one by one and then I melt them off of me.

"You can do better than that can't you?" She launches a fireball at me. A fireball composed of bright and dark purple. A fireball that is immediately drowned out by a blue one twice its size and three times as bright. You've gotta be kidding me.

"You can't fight a being made out of fire with fire. It doesn't work!" Now here comes the one thing that she has that can do some damage, her lightning attack. A wave of electricity soars and sizzles through the air and smacks me harder than the backhand of a pimp would a crackwhore. The energy from this wave lifts me up and my skin soaks it all in. It scurries throughout my body making me twitch and shake like crazy. After this is over I flop back on to the ground.

"There you go, now you're getting it! You need a weapon though, here." I toss her Iris's old staff. "I fixed the ends of the staff so that they can emit psi-blades like my gauntlets. Psionic energy is quite easy to produce. Nothing can produce psionic energy except the human or the Enlightened mind. To make it so that a weapon can make psionic blades all you need to do is make holes in something and then you need to put a system in whatever that something is so that it can read your brain patterns. I took part of that system from one of my gauntlets and put it into that staff. I broke off the pointed tips so that there were holes at the end of the staff. All that you need to do is imagine the blades and they are there. But remember that this only works for us Enlightened. For what we imagine can become reality because our imagination triggers the energy fabric that exists in the world. This energy fabric is in everything living, dead, or inanimate. We Enlightened are formed from this energy fabric, molded by it. It gives us our power without it we would not exist."

"So why must we drink blood?"

"Well from what I've concluded when we use energy we use up our blood. This explains why we are weakened after a fight. Our bodies have not evolved to the point where can regenerate our blood fast enough to live so we have to drink blood to fill us up again. So I guess, when you think about it, we're kind of like…cars, I guess. Anyway back to your practice. Do you know how to fight with that?"

"Of course I do."

"Well then, let's begin." She comes at me with a swing to the head, which I dodge and come around with my leg sending her to the ground. She springs back up and comes at me again with a fake swing to the head and a forceful blow to my kneecap.

"Good job." I remark.

"Thank you." The battle continues with her demonstrating complex staff attacks which I repeatedly dodge one move after the other.

"You know if you keep this up eventually you're just going to wear down. Come on, land a…" I always speak to soon for she knocks me up the side of the head, then continuing the movement she quickly positions the staff between my legs, lifts me up by my crotch, and throws me a couple of feet. When my face smashes into the ground I utter the end of my comment. "…hit."

She comes after me as I lay on the ground. Right before she comes down on my head I lift up my feet into her stomach and toss her over me. We both get to our feet quickly and the battle continues. The thing about this girl is she has a hard time bringing out her…

"Anger, it's the one thing you need to survive on the battlefield. If you can't bring out your hatred then you will lose a fight before it even begins. It's seems you can handle regular combat just fine. But now let's see how you do under more…intense conditions." With that I burst out into flames, which quickly go away ready for focused hits. I come after her and start going crazy. She manages to dodge all but one hit, which puts her to the ground. She sits there for awhile as though I hit her extremely hard. I somehow go from raging beast to soft-hearted when I see her kneeling in pain. I walk over to her to see if she is okay. As soon as I put my hand on her shoulder a large electronic explosion happens and a wave of lightning smacks me.

"YOU WANT ANGER?!" Oops. Looks like I triggered the wrong switch. She dazzles me with a non-stop assault of kicks and punches, each one faster and stronger than the last. She lands her finishing move on me. This finishing move is a work of art in it's own way. She dashes towards you from a distance and builds up her energy so that with each foot that she comes closer to you the brighter, warmer, and louder she gets. When hit by this ball of light you feel as though you've just been fried to a golden crisp. I feel almost paralyzed. But I will not let this fight end here. I kick back into rage mode with fire burning brighter than it ever has. I was going to be nice but since she wants to play hardball, then so be it. I pull off unending combos that sizzle her unbearably. I end this series of combos with an uppercut that puts her high in the air. I fly up after her and take her down with a double fisted slam. As she lays on the ground I ready my finishing move. I haven't pulled this off in awhile but I think I can still remember it. The ball forms in my hands as they are clasped together at the wrists with the palms pointing outwards. I let the energy of this ball gather for quite sometime and then I fire it off down towards her. As she lays on the ground I can tell she has no idea what is about to come her way. I close my eyes as the blinding flash goes off. When I take a look at her laying there helpless A large amount of guilt crawls up my spine and clings on to my conscience. Sometimes mercilessness is an extremely bad idea.

"Hey are you okay?"

"I…I'll…I'll be fine."

"Listen I'm sorry I lost control. I guess I don't know my own strength."

"That's okay really." I can't look at this anymore. I concentrate hard on her pain and I begin to sooth every nerve ending and close up all the wounds. Yes mind does come over matter. After a few minutes of mental healing she is back to normal.

"Thank you."

"It's really the least I can do."

"You know, you're kind of cute."

"Thanks." I bend down to help her up but we end up kissing instead. All of the sudden that hard-ass action hero is a soft, romantic lover. This girl is fantastic. Funny how this kiss makes me…happy. Happy? Me? This is…strange. How can one woman make happy with this gentle kiss? She's beautiful.

"So we should probably go find Garak."

"Who's Garak?" I ask.

"Garak is the other guy that came in to this training ground with me. He's probably wondering what happened to me."

"Well then let's go look for him."

"Sure." So we start off on our search for our other teammate.
