Silent Scope
There's just something about Shooter Games that I really enjoy. And Silent Scope is no exception. The best way to describe this game is to imagine Virtua Cop with a Sniper Rifle and Slim Time Limit. The "Sniper" interface works extremely well with the controller and your television. A scope view pops up on the screen while you can see an overview of the action in the background. Hold down the "A" button and the scope is replaced with some crosshairs so you can line up your shot from a distance if you want. When shooting at night you are provided with a nifty night scope. And at the end of each area you must face a boss character(s) whom usually has some trick to being defeated. You can also land one shot kills with a head shot if you're that good. And believe me, it's gonna take some practice and skill to become an "Ultimate Sniper". Your final score depends on how fast and accurate you are with your kills. During the course of Story Mode there are several level splits where you must make a decision. All the paths ultimately lead to the same ending, but it helps give the game some variety. There's also an Expansive Training Mode and Time Mode which offer alot of variety in terms of action and how to take shots. The only thing that could have and should have seen improvement was the graphics. There's nothing wrong with them, but they aren't terribly exciting or use any special effects either. It also would have been nice if Konami added a 2-Player Mode, but I could see the confusion this might have caused. If you're a looking for a shooter that's fresh and exciting try Slient Scope for your Dreamcast. Sniping has never been this good.
