Nintendo Gameboy Advance System

Here's a quick look at the Official Packaging of the North American Gameboy Advance units.

Oddly enough the GBA looks like a cross between the Game.com and NeoGeo Pocket handheld systems (both of which are now deceased in the US market). Cartridges are still the same width as current Gameboy carts but half as tall. The screen resolution is also reported as being 60% sharper than the Gameboy Color. The screen is light reflective and not backlit. Most games look like something you'd expect on a SNES system (including 7 mode effects) and for a handheld that's amazing. Note the two shoulder buttons. GBA can also connect to the Nintendo GameCube via a special cord (sold separately) and can be used similarly as the Dreamcast VMU. It's also been rumored that the GBA can even double as a stand-bye GameCube controller (though it won't have as many buttons, analog, force feedback, etc.). The official colors for the GBA are Arctic (white), Glacier (milky blue), and Indigo (purple).

Here's some pics of the GBA cartridge. Looks a lot like the old Sega Game Gear or Neo Geo Pocket cartridges doesn't it? Wonder if they come with their own plastic cases like Gameboy Color carts? The system is backwards compatible with GB Color games. But when you use GBC carts they stick up about an inch from the top of the handheld. Looks odd, but it's a small price to pay for this cool feature.

Here's a pic of the Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance hand-helds side by side. Not much of a change in regards to the actual dimensions, huh? Note the larger (widescreen) LCD screen on the GBA.
