Metroid II: the Return of Samus
Metroid finally makes a return, but this time it's on the Gameboy. And this classic title just shows how well the Gameboy can preform & why it's still around today. First off, just being on the Gameboy, this title packs quite a bit of detail in the graphics department. The stages are very alien-istic (is that a word?) & feature some amazingly realistic structures. It also shows off some quality animation on the GB. Your main mission is to destroy all the mutated Metroids that exist on this planet. In order to make your journey you must find gadgets and other upgrades. Each item serves some role whether it be the only weapon that can destroy a certain metroid or whether it's the only way you can reach a new part of the level. Finding these weapons & opening up new areas is all a major part of the game. And in fact the only way you can advance. Nothing's better than when you blow a hole in a wall, roll up in a ball, & find a new area to explore. The game will easily take several hours to beat, not to mention that there are several different endings available. By the way, it also helps lead upto the Super Metroid plot on the SNES. Metroid II is a cool & enjoyable little title that will definitely last you awhile. I just hope Nintendo decides to release more classic titles like this in the future for Gameboy.
