Mortal Kombat
The Genesis version of Mortal Kombat retains all the blood and gore that grabbed your attention at the arcade. However, you have to enter a code every time you turn the game on. Regardless of the blood though, the game remains pretty shallow in the game play department. You only have seven selectable fighters off the bat. Special codes can add about another 2 or 3 characters. Unfortunately all of them play the same and each use the same standard moves. The differences come in their special attacks and fatalities. In fact, the fatalities are the only thing you'll be coming back for (shock value and gore factor). Check out Mortal Kombat 2 if you're looking for the best 16-bit rev of the series.
