Battletoads
Battletoads, at first it sounds and looks like a gimmick game that was trying to catch a ride with the whole Ninja Turtles thing. But first hand play of the game proves otherwise. Battletoads is a genuine classic with it's ridicuosly fun and addictive gameplay. For the most part it's a side-scrolling brawler (much like Final Fight) along with 2 players to boot. But each stage has it's own unique challenge/trick. One stage places you on speeder-bike as you dodge concrete walls and make some pretty wild jumps. Another one has you riding the back of a snake as it weaves in out of a spike-covered stage. Some of the levels you'll absolutely hate, and some you'll honestly love to death. For instance I dig the speeder stage, but my brother can't stand it. No matter what your taste is you're sure to find something in this title that'll spark your interest. And on top of that the game is very challenging. Each stage requires intense practice to conquer. You won't be able to run by everything so easily in this title. Though there isn't a password system there are some secret warp areas (similar to the original Mario Bros game). It just goes to show why NES games were so good and popular back in the day. It's all about the gameplay. The graphics aren't that bad either. Actually they're pretty good in a cartoonish way. And the first stage boss will definitely surprise first time players. It's an overall great package in every category. Battletoads just has a style all it's own.
