Cardinal Syn

There are just some ideas that just don't translate well into video games. And unfortunately Syn is a prime example of this theory. As if there weren't enough 3D fighters on the Playstation, Sony thought it necessary to make another one. Syn was originally made to appease the Mortal Kombat crowd & draw in fantasy fans (from the likes of Xena & Hercules). The creators even added a nifty little feature in the game to complete the fantasy feel. While fighting, you can unlock different treasure chests. Which can hold anything from exploding bombs to health-replenishing meat. And to take the experience a little further they made the backgrounds interactive. Allowing the characters to fall off bridges & burn themselves as they tromp through lava. However, they're nothing more than nifty gimmicks. In the actual game, you'll find slow & talentless combatents. Not to mention the extreme difficulty of inputing moves as the computer opponent easily rips up on your helpless character. Even the character designs lack that certain feel & charisma. Ultimately the game ends up giving you a taste of what could have been, but sticks you with another run-of-the-mill 3D game. Dammit Sony! You don't need to make games, just worry about the systems.
