Ape Escape
Finally, a game that utilizes both analog sticks on the Dual Shock Sony Controller. And what I come to find is an interesting & refreshing twist on the 3D action/platform game. The left stick is used mostly for controlling your character while the right stick is used for your weapon control. Your weapons can range from lightsabers & hool-a-hoops to radio controlled cars & sling-shots. The whole point behind the game is to capture as many monkeys as you can with a crazy set of gizmos & gagets. While some people might find this pointless, diehard platform fans will love every minute of it. Every monkey is strategically placed & requires some intuition to capture. And that's not mentioning that each monkey is unique & have their own stats & attributes. Accompanying the monkey hunting mayhem is a cute anime-type story that revolves around several characters. It basically keeps the game going & fleshes out it's cast (like all good stories should do). So their is always something to look forward to even until the very end. The graphics are somewhat blocky, but very cute. So it's perfect for little kids & adults alike. Though I still would like to see some 3D platform games that are more mature (and I don't mean Tomb Raider!). Yet this brings me to my problem with the game. It's fun & innovative, but incredibly short & easy for the pros. After 3 days when it was all done & said I just wish there was more. Luckily there are 3 different mini-games you can open up. These include a Rocket-Ski Racing game, Specter Boxing, & my favorite which is a twist on the classic shooter game. While these titles will hold your attention for awhile they're pretty thin for games & just aren't as big as you would expect. Still though I'll give the creators some credit for even adding it & they are quick, good games. It's a true testament to gameplay & originality. Every gamer should at least once check this title out. It's a fun, little blast that you'll definitely enjoy.
