Rainbow 6

The PSX version of Rainbow 6 starts out promising, but eventually leads you to disappointment. The controls seem overwhelming at first. But after 15 or 20 minutes of "training" time you should become familiar with them. Every button and analog stick on your pad is put use as you strife, look in 360º, change weapons, and make your way through the game. Most of the missions center around rescuing a person or disabling a number of bombs. However, after the first ten missions of the same thing, your interest starts to wane. And you begin to wonder why the creators didn't invest in a better variety of objectives. This is probably what hurts the game the most. Even with a decent set of controls and the ability to maneuver three separate members, the boring missions give you little reason to keep going.

The graphics are bad straight from the start of the game. At best they are passable for the PSX, but pale in comparison to graphically intense games such as Medal of Honor and Metal Gear Solid. Rainbow 6 uses an odd mixture of 3D stages and 2D characters. The 2D sprites are heavily pixilated and look out of place in their backgrounds. The stages are made up of simple 3D structures and very plain, recycled textures. Nothing here will impress the average gamer.

I'd stick to the original PC versions of the Rainbow 6 games. There's hardly any reason to waste your time on the watered down PSX Rainbow 6, especially if you own a computer. But if all you got is a Playstation, Medal of Honor would be your best bet for a wartime first person shooter.
