Resident Evil
Resident Evil, the game that started a whole new genre known as "survival horror". What this game managed to do was to blend a 3D adventure game with George Romero's 'Night of the Living Dead' & a little Myst-style puzzle solving for good measure. The game's levels are 2D but set up with a dramatic flair & have that unpresedented CG look. While the characters & interactive objects are 3D & fully moveable. You can take the role of either Chris (the stud) or Jill (the gal). From there the two characters stories play out differently and reveal different parts of the overall story. While searching for a way out of the mansion you'll come across enemies with which you can make two decisions. Stay and fight them to the death or run for life. Remember your ammo & supplies are heavily limited though. Of course you'll come accross the ocassional puzzle. Which requires some creative thinking in order to be solved. And if this game manages to do anything over other titles. It can scare the crap out of you. I still jump when those darn dogs burst through the windows even though I know it's coming. And there's a definite gore factor involved here too. Oh, the joy of Mature games! Not to mention the game has several different endings that are revealed depending upon who you find & save. You can't go wrong with this classic.
