Xena: Warrior Princess
Xena finally gets her own game & fans will definitely love it. Story, characters, & scenery are all taken directly out of the show. So any proud fan (is there any out there willing to admit it) will immediately realize the tiny details & complete connection to the tv series. But despite the decent amount effort in content, it doesn't make up for the poor, repetitive game that lays beneath it. It turns out to be a long fighting game with adaquete amounts of adventure mixed in. You constantly battle a barrage of bad guys (who like to jump on you from every side possible) while occasionally finding a minor weapon upgrade or something of the sort. And all the levels go on like this. 989 Studios neglected to through in any other gameplay portions to break up the action. The only fun thing I found in this title was that Ring Weapon. It takes a guy out with one hit, but reguires some target practice & is worthless in close-combat. Some innovative controls & different gameplay sections would have made this title a better deal overall. But as it is, Xena's only worth a rental from the fans of the series.
Category | Rating | How & Why? |
Graphics | 8 | A Little Blocky but Bearable / Recreates the World & Characters |
Music | 6 | It's Mostly Silent with the few Sparse Action Themes / So-So Soundeffects with Actor Voice-Overs |
Gameplay | 6 | the Ring Weapon is the Best / Turns into a Mindless Button Masher / Very Repetitive... |
Innovation | 6 | Hmm, I guess Xena fans will love the attention to detail & story / But the folks who hate this kind of stuff (games based on low-budget & cheesey fantasy shows) will want something else to play |
Replay | 5 | It Just isn't Exciting unless you're into Xena / the Bad Guys constantly jump on you & with Poor Controls you'll stop playing it all together... |
Overall 6.2
