Daytona USA

Very rarely do you see a racing game modeled realistically after the real thing. And in Daytona USA that's exactly what you get. It features most of the common controls found in any good racer. Where you can perform various power slides & such. But what makes this so interesting is the fact that you can race for so many laps. We're talking about 20, 40, & 60 lap races! How's that for being just like the true Daytona. While this facet might cheer up the racing enthusiasts, I'm not sure if the regular gamer could sit there for hours on end scourching the same track. Well, at least there's the normal arcade mode where there's only mayble 2 to 3 laps to race through. And if that wasn't good enough, Sega even threw in car damage. Which can actually slow & weaken your car's performance if not fixed. Pit stopping starts to become a major factor in the race. So it just isn't a blatant racer we're looking at anymore. While the control has some good offerings, you can't really say the same about the graphics. There's just a lot of polygon 'pop-in' & rough graphics. (hey, it's a 1st gen Saturn title after all). But it doesn't hamper the gameplay any. You just notice all the little problems when you go through the same track 60 times. Overall, Daytona USA is a pretty solid racing game. It's just with the weak graphics you might wanna check out Daytona USA Championship Edition for a better overall game.

Category Rating How & Why?
Graphics 6 Blocky, Polygon Clipping Backgrounds / Tracks are Designed Interestingly Enough
Music 6 This is just too Wierd / There's Italian Guys or something Singing in the Songs
Gameplay 8 Skill-Testing Tracks / Car Damage & Lot's of Laps adds Realism / Gets Boring after a few Hours
Innovation 7 There's Lots of Racer's in Today's World / So Daytona doesn't offer much new over others
Replay 7 Easy to Play / Realistic, Endless Hours of Laps can get boring / Luckily there's an Arcade Mode
