Quake
Saturn finally gets a decent rev of the first person shooter. While not a complete Doom spin-off, Quake takes the classic formula & adds a little more player interaction into the mix. This in the end creates a unique experience in which you're doing more than just blowing things away (of course blowing stuff up is still a major part of the game). Often times you'll find yourself having to make difficult jumps, setting your target, & even swimming. Almost like Turok if you've ever played that. These little additions add a greater exploration element & even help the puzzles to become a little better (as in how to solve them). So you're getting Doom, but with way more control options. The graphics while rough manage to show off the gritty & eerie atmosphere set by the game. And the characters are 3D, meaning they look & animate a little better, though not by much. I can understand how hard it was to recreate the PC graphics, but I still think it could have been done better. Each of the stages are huge & the puzzles are often difficult so you'll be playing this game for a good long time. That's if you can manage to stay alive. This is definitely the title for Doom & first-person shooter fans. While more options could have truly made it something special, the pretty good game that lies inside in enough (that's if you're not tired of these kinds of games yet). A good port, but nothing more.
