Virtua Fighter 2

Well, it isn't arcade perfect, but it's better than nothing. The gameplay has at least been faithfully reproduced. Featuring all the punches, kicks, & grapples exactly as you would expect them to be. So there's no complaints here (unless you just totally hate the VF set-up). And in the home version they added a cool team battle mode & training area (a staple of any good fighting game these days). The graphics are in high resolution so everthing has a crisp, sharp look to it. Even though you'd might expect some better polygon effects such as lighting. The character motions are perfect & smooth. Just wait till you see some of the characters in action. Especially the old guy who fights in the "drunken"-style kung fu (you gotta love him!). The arcade translation problem comes in the backgrounds. Some stages just took a hit in polygon count & movement so that the character designs themselves wouldn't suffer. Oh well, what are you going to do? My only other gripe with this title is about the poor endings. There just could have been so much more to keep this short arcade title going. Otherwise you're getting a near-exact arcade port of Virtua Fighter 2.

Category Rating How & Why?
Graphics 8 High-Res gives it a Sharp, Crisp Look / Smooth Moves / Backgrounds aren't Arcade-Perfect
Music 8 Classic VF Tunes that Define the Characters / Great Fight-Music
Gameplay 8 Loads of Moves & Grapples / Hard to Master yet too Easy to 'Button-Mash'
Innovation 8 A Faithful Reproduction of the Arcade Game / Arcade-Perfect means only 10-15 min of Play
Replay 7 Easy to Get through / Poor Endings / It's All Over too Quickly

Overall 7.8
