Final Fantasy: the Mystic Quest
Back in it's premiere, Mystic Quest felt more like a sampler to tide people over before Final Fantasy III was to be released. And today, that original thought has been proven true. The game turns out to be the simplest & most basic of RPGs Squaresoft has ever released. Every aspect of the game has been totally done before & it's ridiculously easily. You get the same old standard battle menu system with it's own unique look of course. And the story is way too cliche with the "young boy who becomes destined to save the world from great evil" method. And not much happens in the plot to make it memorable or stand out from other RPG tales. And the graphics still look 8-bit & have that funky lego-designed block style. Something different though is the fact that you can see all the enemies that lay on your path. So this means you can avoid them for the most part. Unfortunately this doesn't help you build up your character & makes the game go by way to quickly. Heck, I beat it in less the 8 hours my first play & that's with maxing all my characters out. The game is better set for the beginning role player & kids who want simple RPG to start out on. Otherwise, RPG fanatics need to go somewhre else to get their kicks.
