Mortal Kombat

Ick. The SNES rev of Mortal Kombat only turns out to be a sorry shadow of it's former self. Blood & Gore is what this game such a hit. And quite frankly without those two factors, the game just sucks. Now it feels like a cheap version of Street Fighter just with realistic images. All the characters have the same basic moves. Except for the super moves which take the form of 'Fireballs' & other whacy moves. The button combinations require quick taps rather than the smooth rolling motions found in Street Fighter. Almost giving the game a kind of stiff feel, but at least it's different. And the action is sorta of slow paced. But it's not horrible. You just wish more effort was put into the gameplay itself. Secondly the graphics were quite new at it's time. No game before had ever tried to use real images as a basis for graphics. And the effect comes off quite well if not a little digitized. Smoother animations could have also helped the appearance. Then we get to the actual 'Fatalities'. Which are heavily edited & just don't have that kind of impact that the arcade provided. It's like you've seen it before & better too. But the really sad thing is that there is no "blood code". So no matter what you do, you're stuck with a lame version of Mortal Kombat on the SNES. You'd better just skip over this title & head straight for Mortal Kombat 2.
