Mortal Kombat 3

Mortal Kombat fans will no doubt have an enjoyable time with MK3, but quite frankly I think the series has lost that certain something. I just can't help but feel like I've played this already before and the differences between MK2 and this are very few if any. Sure there's the new Combo-System and a Variety of Fatalities, but it just isn't the same. The Combo system is complete garbage and pails in comparison to Street Fighter 2. And without the combos the gameplay is very thin and lacking. A majority of the new fatalities are just goofy or different versions of the original deaths. I also didn't care for the new characters which seemed to lack personality. And I'm really getting tired of the Ninja knock-offs, and now they got robot-ninjas! Wha? At least there's absolutely no cutting/editing with all the blood and fatalities. That's one positive for the game. It's fine as a "filler" title for the time being, but the MK series needs to make some drastic changes if it plans on staying around for the future.

Category Rating How & Why?
Graphics 8 2D Photo-Realistic Charcters / More Animated Stages / Loads of Bloody & Gory Specials / Lots of Scorpion Knock-Offs and Some of the New Characters look Lame...
Music 8 Lots of Heavy Beats & Drums that Set a Dark Mood / Same-Old, Same-Old MK Soundeffects
Gameplay 6 Familiar Controls with Plenty of Specials / Combo-System is Whacked / Gameplay is Beginning to Show it's Age compared to the Street Fighter series
Innovation 5 No Leaps or Bounds between MK2 and MK3 / Very Little Changed or Added / Probably the Weakest MK game despite being Unedited (...well the Mature Theme anyways)
Replay 5 Isn't as Fun or Interesting as MK2 / Endings are Still Crappy / Much of the Magic that made Mortal Kombat is lost in this 3rd Installment...
