Rise of the Robots
Yet another game that dashed my hopes. I was actually looking forward to a robots-only fighting game. But Rise of the Robots is executed so poorly on the Super Nintendo. I don't know why they even bothered to release it. It seems like all the effort and cartridge memory went into the small, but cool opening scene. Because the in-game animation is down right bad. Imagine your character throwing weak and heavy (or was that high & low?) punches. But the animation for most of your characters moves are all the same. In fact, a majority of your attacks are visually indistinguishable from one another. Making for a rather uneventful and boring bout. The limited roster of characters are also very sluggish. So the bouts are slow paced in addition to the other problems. If you manage to make it to the end, you're treated to a couple of still shots that flesh out the story. But who cares about the plot, if you can't enjoy the game play? Rise of the Robots is a bad experience that no one should have to suffer through.

Category | Rating | How & Why? |
Graphics | 4 | Fantastic, if Small Opening Cinema / Characters & Stages Look Great at a Stand-Still / But Animation is Terribly Choppy & Moves Recycled / Static Backgrounds |
Music | 2 | Zero Fighting Soundtrack / Some Key Tunes Here and There / Sound Effects are Unimpressive |
Gameplay | 2 | Sluggish Fighters with Few Moves / Very Limited Roster / Different Moves Usually Use the Same Animation & are Indistinguishable / Forget About Tactics and Start Button Smashing |
Innovation | 2 | A Robot Fighting Game is a Great Idea, But the Game is Executed So Poorly It's Not Even Worth Mentioning |
Replay | 2 | So Terrible, It's Funny / But there's No Other Reason to Try this Game Unless you want to See Some Cool Robots and the Opening Clip... |
Overall 2.4
