I started out, in 1987, with 25 ft, single engine, cruisers, then moved to a 26 ft. Sea Ray Sundancer, then to 27'7" SeaRay Sundancer. My wife and I really enjoyed that for for about 3-4 years. We took a few trips, like to Cedar Point in Ohio, Lexington in Michigan, etc... But kind of got tired of it, and sold it 1992.
I sat dry docked for a year, then decided that a 'go fast boat' would be fun. I found a 1987 Wellcraft Nova Sypder, with twin 330's. It was a fun boat, ran an honest 65-66mph on gps. But I got tired of the sore back from slaming around in 2-3 ft. chop in Lake St.Clair, so I sold boat in 1996. We started looking at 30 footers, but most did not have seperate head. Then someone told me Scarab III had a seperate head. We looked at one and liked it. So last summer, when the right deal came along , we bought a 1985 Wellcraft Scarab III, twin 330's, arch, etc....We like it, not the fastest boat , but no more getting pounded around.
We currently live in New Baltimore Michigan, and boat mainly on Lake St.Clair, which is part of the Great Lakes. I am enjoying the performance side boating, since I was into drag racing a super gas Camero back in the 80's. I could not count the number big block chevys I have assembled over the years. I do most all my own work on my boats.
