Jewett History
Jewett was started by John Staul in 1852. It used to be
called Fairview. 1894-1903 the Jewett Car Company Limited
was manufacturing street cars. They were shipped out by
railroad. Between 1900-1920 there were about 60
businesses which included 3 grocery stores, 2 shoe
repairs, and 3 funeral homes.
- The railroad brought business to Jewett. Shown here is the train depot.
- The Jewett Car Company Limited (1894-1903) which

- In 1927, the National Bank in Jewett opened.
- Mr. James Thompson hoed up this Adena spear head on his
father's Jewett farm when he was 12.
- Mrs. James (Tywla) Thompson, a lifelong resident of Jewett
shared history stories with the class.
