The mill was built in 1790 and was located by the creek to get power from the water to turn
the water wheel. It was moved in 1870 to the present location where they used machinery in the
steam powered mill. Uriah Simmons operated the mill.
They cut wood and ground grain.
Later on, they ground only grains.
It was open around 75 years.
They heated the mill with a potbelly stove.
They cut wood to make things like rocking horses. The old mill used to be called The Simmons Mill.
Now it is called the Jewett Mill. Ross H. Thompson started grinding feed and flour in 1911 and then
he rented the feed store to Donald Thompson who sold International trucks and farm machinery in other
parts of the building. Before the decade ended, the Lucas Brothers, Dave and Hi, purchased the mill
and changed it to a roller process grinding type. It closed down for good in 1945.
