A Hidden Place
Each of us has a hidden place
Somewhere deep within ourselves;
A place where we go to get away,
To think things through,
To be alone, to be ourselves.
This unique place, where we confront
our deepest feelings,
Becomes a storehouse of all our hopes,
All our needs, all our dreams,
And even our unspoken fears.
It encompasses the essence of who we are
and what we want to be.
But now and then,
whether by chance or design,
Someone discovers a way into that place
we thought was ours alone.
And we allow that person to see,
to feel and to share
All the reason, all the uncertainty
And all the emotion we've stored up there.
That person adds new perspective
to our hidden realm,
Then quietly settles down in his own
corner of our special place,
Where a bit of himself
will stay forever.
And we call that person friend.
Dear Fear:
You have been my companion all my life,
I remember you well from my early childhood.
You have been the determining factor for most
of my life's decisions. The majority of important
lessons I have learned, I have learned them from
you. You have been an ever constant in my darkest
moments. I feel that you have stood in the way,of
enabling me to further myself to greater potential.
Because of you I have shed buckets of tears and
ached and trembled inside. I have isolated myself,
turned away the ones I love and those who love me.
Dear relationships were lost. I nearly destroyed
myself simply because I was afraid. You have
been a powerful force in my life and I can allow it
no longer.
You have introduced Pain and Anger to me. I would
now like to introduce Love to you. Perhaps you
already know her. On those occasions when you did
not triumph it was Love who was victorious leading
the way with her warmth and her light.
I don't know why you have won out so many times over
her, maybe because I knew you better, you were
just more familiar.
I have to ask you to leave now...for my children's
sake. You see, they know Love and it is she who
is their constant companion. Love will be the one
teaching them their most valuable lessons and guide
them in their life's decisions. Sure, they have met
you and will no doubt run into you again but
Love will be there to see them through.
