Sister, Sister
This is a new story of mine. I hope you like it.
I finished the concert and started back to my bus with some security guards beside me. A big crowd of fans gathered around me asking me for my autograph. Such is the life of a successful singer, I thought as I signed some things and headed to my bus.
Finally, there were only two people left. They were about 17 or 18 and they were twins. The only way you could tell them apart was one had really long blond hair and the other had short blond hair. I smiled at them "Hi, what's your name?"
"I'm Misty." Said the one with the long blond hair.
"I'm Mindy." Said the one with the short hair.
"Can you sign this?" Misty asked holding out a picture.
"Sure." I said. I signed it, gave it back and then turned to Mindy. "Do you have something for me to sign?"
"Yeah, I have another picture." She said and handed it to me.
"This is nice. Did you buy this somewhere?"
"Yeah."
"How much was it?"
She rolled her eyes. "Too much."
I laughed and signed it.
"It's a nice bus." Mindy said.
"Thanks."
"Can we look inside?" She asked.
Before I could say anything, Misty gave her a dirty look. "Of course not." She snapped. She turned to me. "I'm sorry. I know you wouldn't want some people you just met inside your bus."
Normally, I didn't, I thought, but oh well, they seemed like nice girls. I smiled. "No, it's okay. You can have a tour."
Mindy grinned and stuck her tongue out at Misty. "Cool, thanks."
"Normally, I don't give fans a tour, ya know." I told them as they followed me inside.
"How come you let us?" Mindy asked.
"You girls seem nice."
"We are."
"Wow, this is nice." Misty said.
"Yeah, not bad for a bus." Mindy agreed.
I laughed. "Well, I am here more than my own home."
"I wish I could be a singer."
"We're trying to get a record deal." Misty said.
"A lot of people say we're really good."
"Want to sing something for me?"
"Anything?" Mindy asked.
"Yeah, it doesn't matter."
"Ok." Mindy said. She turned to Misty. "We'll sing the song we did at the last contest." She said. Misty nodded and to my surprise they started to sing, 'I'm Alright', which was one of my songs.
"Wow, that was great." I said when they finished.
"Thanks." Mindy said.
Misty blushed. "It was ok."
"No, you did good. Really good." I insisted.
"Hook us up with Mike Curb." Mindy said sitting down on my couch.
"I don't think-" I started to say.
"Hey, did I hear my name?" Someone interrupted me.
"Yeah, your Mike Curb right?" Mindy asked, standing up.
"Yes, that's me." He said. "And you are?"
"I'm Mindy and this is my twin Misty."
"Hi, Mindy, Misty."
"Hi." Misty whispered.
"We were just singing for Jo Dee and she said we sounded good, we asked her to hook us up with you. We've been in Nashville forever and can't find a deal."
"Let me hear you sing something."
"Ok." Mindy said and this time they sang Lucky In Love.
"Your guys are pretty great. Meet me in my office tomorrow at noon for a meeting." Mike said and turned to me. "I wanted to congratulate you on your show. You did a wonderful job."
"Thanks." I said.
"We'll be there." Mindy promised.
"Bye." He said and left.
Mindy and Misty had huge smiles on their faces. "This is so great. Thank you, Jo Dee."
"Oh you don't have to thank me."
"Yes, we do." Misty spoke up. "You let us in here even though you didn't know us."
"We have to get going now. Thanks for everything." Mindy said.
"Your welcome." I said. I hugged them both and they left.
6 Months Later
I stood from the sidelines of the stage and watched the two girls. They were really great and the audience seemed to love them. They knew all the words to the songs and the guys had flowers for them and everything. I smiled as I watched them dance and sing around and I remembered how it had all started six months ago. Just then, one of the girls looked over and seen me standing there. She winked and smiled. I smiled back and she turned back to the audience.
A few minutes later they stopped. "Thanks for putting up with us tonight, guys. Jo Dee will be up soon and I hope you have a good night." Said one of the girls.
"Bye." The other one said and they ran off.
"How did we do?" Mindy asked coming up to me, with Misty behind her.
"You did great." I said.
"Thanks." Mindy squealed and hugged me. I laughed and hugged her back.
Their manager came up then. "Come on girls, it's time for your meet and greet."
Mindy patted my arm. "Good luck."
"Thanks." I said and they left.
A little bit after that, I got on stage. Right before the last song, which was Bye, Bye, I called out Misty and Mindy to sing it with me. We normally all closed the show together and the audience loved it. After that, we had to get right on the bus and to the hotel.
"We only have a few more tour dates left." Mindy said.
"I know. It's going to be weird without you guys always around." I said.
"Yeah, I'm going to miss it."
"I'll never forget how you let us on your bus." Misty said.
Mindy laughed. "I know, I couldn't believe it."
"I don't know why I did. Normally, I don't."
"You were just like, I'm going to let these girls on the bus?" Mindy asked.
I laughed. "Basically, yeah."
"It's a good thing you did." Mindy said. "Because now we're singers."
"Yeah, and you guys are very good."
"Thanks." Mindy said.
"The guys all love us." Misty said.
"How could they not?" Mindy said.
Misty rolled her eyes. "It's good to see your so modest, sis." She said sarcastically.
Mindy threw a pillow at her. "I don't want any of your lip."
Misty shot her a glare. "I am so tired."
"So am I." Mindy said.
"Guys, we're at the hotel now." The bus driver yelled.
"Ok." Mindy said and we grabbed our stuff.
I went to my room and Mindy and Misty went into their room. I feel asleep as soon as we got there.
A Month Later
"Jo Dee! It's the phone for you." My mom called. She was visiting my house.
"Thanks." I said. I went over to the table and picked up the phone. "Hello?"
"Why couldn't we tour together longer?"
I laughed. "Well, hi to you to Mindy."
"Sorry, hi. This tour is not as fun as the one we did with you."
"Your not getting along with The Wilkinsons?"
"No they're nice and all, but I always feel uncomfortable around them. Misty gets along with them and it's weird because it's normally the other way around."
"Where is everybody now?"
"They left! They didn't even ask if I wanted to come along. I should be gone when they get back, that'll show them."
"Where'd they go?"
"I have no idea. Can I come over? I'm only like an hour away."
"You don't have a show or anything, do you?"
"No, we have a few days off. Can I please come over?"
"Sure, I don't have anything going on."
"Great, thanks. See you soon."
"Yup, bye." I said and hung up.
Almost an hour later, Mindy got there. "Hi, Jo Dee it's so nice to see you again."
"Nice to see you again. What will everybody think when they get back and your gone?"
She shrugged. "Who cares? They ditched me."
"You didn't even leave a note?"
"Nope."
Mindy was irresponsible, but you had to love her. "You probably should have."
She smiled. "I'm hungry, what do you have to eat?" She asked.
Apparently, she thought the subject was dropped. "Why don't we go see?"
"Let's."
We went into the kitchen and Mindy made some ham sandwiches for us. We sat at the table with them. "I'm sorry for barging in on you and eating all your food, it's just I was so bored, and you're the only person I'm really close to besides Misty. And, we haven't seen each other since the tour ended."
"It's ok. I'm actually glad to see you. I've missed you and Misty."
"We owe you a lot." She said, her face turning serious.
"Oh, no you don't."
"Oh, yes we do. You can deny it all you want but it's true."
"I'm glad you guys have gotten so famous. You really deserve it."
"Thanks. I really appreciate that."
"Your welcome."
"Do you have any ice cream?" Mindy asked after we ate the sandwiches.
"Yeah, chocolate chip cookie dough. Want me to fix us a bowl?"
"If you don't mind."
"Not at all." I said and got it out of the freezer.
After we ate, the phone rang. "Hello?"
"Hi, Jo Dee it's Misty. I'm sorry to disturb you, but is Mindy there?"
'It's Misty', I mouthed to Mindy. She nodded. "Hi, Misty. She's here. I'll get her, just a second."
"Ok, great thanks."
I handed the phone to Mindy and she talked for a few minutes before hanging up. "I wonder how she knew I'd be here."
"She's your twin. She knows everything about you."
She nodded thoughtfully. "That's true."
"Anyways, what did she say?"
"She's sorry that she didn't ask me to go and that she was worried about me when she got back and I was gone. Stupid stuff like that."
"Aww, that's not stupid. She cares about you."
She shrugged absentmindedly. "She wants to know what your doing tomorrow."
"I have some stuff planned in the morning, but I'm free from noon on. Why?"
"She wanted us to do something tomorrow."
"That sounds great."
"Well, it's getting late. Thanks for letting me come over, but I better get going."
"Why don't you just stay here?"
"But you have things in the morning."
"You can just stay here. Besides, if I remember correctly, you always would sleep until pretty late if you could."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm positive."
"Ok, let me call Misty and let her know."
"All right." I said and Mindy went over to the phone.
She talked to her for a few minutes and then hung up. "She'll be here about 12:30 tomorrow."
"That's cool."
"Let's watch a movie."
"What movie?"
"How about the Wedding Singer?"
"Ok, you go make some popcorn and I'll get it ready."
I got it ready and a few minutes later, Mindy came in with the popcorn. "Ready?" She asked.
"Yeah." I said. Mindy laid on the floor and I sat on the couch.
After it was over, we started talking. "Have you and Misty always been close?"
"Oh, yeah we used to tell each other everything. We still do."
"Who's older?"
"I am by five minutes. I remember we shared a room until we were thirteen and Misty would have nightmares and she'd come in my room and I'd sing to her until she fell asleep again."
"When did you know you wanted to be a singer?'
"I was about ten. I wanted Misty to sing with me, but she was always to shy. I'm surprised she's singing now."
"Would you have started singing if Misty didn't want to sing?"
"I don't know. I don't think I would have had the courage to move to Nashville by myself.."
"This reminds me of when I used to have sleep overs." I said.
"Me too. Misty and me used to sleep in our living room a lot. We would watch a whole bunch of movies and talk. We always have fun when we're together."
"I bet." I said. It was quiet for a few minutes. "Mindy, are you still up?" There was no answer, so I turned off the lights and fell asleep.
The next morning, I got up and got ready quietly, so I wouldn't wake Mindy up. I had some interviews to do and when I got home, Mindy was sitting at the table eating a bowl of cereal.
"Hi, how long have you been up?"
"I just got up a half an hour ago. I didn't even wake up when you left."
"I tried to be quiet. Misty should be here soon, shouldn't she?"
"Yeah, but knowing Misty she might be late."
"I'm sure she'll be on time." I said and made a bowl of cereal."
A few minutes later, Misty got there. "Here, Mindy I brought you some clothes." She said, handing Mindy an outfit.
"Thanks." She said. "Can I take a shower?"
"Yeah, go ahead. You know where the bathroom is."
"Ok, I'll be right back."
"We have a lot of time. It always takes her a long time to take a shower." Misty said after she left.
"It's ok. I'm not in a hurry. So how's the tour going?"
"Oh, it's going great. Not as fun as when we toured with you, but still fun. I'm just worried about Mindy."
"Why?"
"She's just been so depressed."
"Is she still going out with Shane?"
"I don't know. They never talk, so maybe they broke up."
"Maybe they did and she's upset about it."
"Did she seem upset last night?"
"She was happy, but you know Mindy, she can go from being upset to being happy in a few minutes."
"I don't know what to do. I feel so bad."
Just then Mindy's cell phone, which was on the table, rang. "You should get that." I said.
Misty picked it up. "Hello?" After talking for a few minutes, she hung up.
"Who was that?"
"Shane."
"Misty? What's wrong? Your face is so pale."
"Mindy and Shane didn't break up. Mindy's..."
"Mindy's what?"
"She's pregnant."
"Are you serious?"
Misty nodded. "Yeah, she's about three months along. I can't believe she never told me."
Mindy came in. "Hey guys, what are we going to do?" She stopped when she seen our faces. "What's wrong?"
"Shane called." Misty said.
"Oh, I haven't talked to him in awhile. I miss him. What did he say?"
"Why didn't you tell us?" Misty snapped.
Mindy frowned. "Tell you what?"
"Mindy, you know what I mean."
"About the pregnancy?"
"Yes!" Misty yelled.
Mindy jumped a little and looked surprised. "I didn't think it was a big deal."
"Not a big deal!" Misty said, her voice rising even more. "It is a big deal. Your not even married."
"Um, yes I am."
"You got married and never said anything?" Misty yelled.
Mindy looked like she was about to start crying. "I'm sorry, Misty. I was going to tell you, but I just couldn't."
"I got to go." Misty said and ran out of the house.
"What did I do?" Mindy said. She sat down in a chair and started crying.
"It's ok." I said and hugged her.
A Year Later
"Jo Dee! You're here." Mindy said when I walked in the house.
"Yeah, how are you doing?"
"Great." Mindy said and gave me a hug. "How are you?"
"I can't complain."
Shane came up with their daughter, Jessica, who was six months.
"Hi, Jo Dee."
"Hi, Shane. Can I hold her?"
"Sure." He said and handed Jessica to me.
"She's adorable. She looks just like you, Mindy."
"Hopefully the next one's a boy." Shane said.
"How many do you want to have?"
"Two or three." Mindy said. "Misty's trying to get pregnant, you know."
Misty has just gotten married to her long time boyfriend, Chad. "What about your singing?"
"Oh, we're still going to do that."
"Here, Shane I'm afraid I'll drop her." I said and handed Jessica back to him.
"I told her she should stay home with Jessica, but you know Mindy, she doesn't listen to anybody."
"Why don't you stay home and watch Jessica?" Mindy countered.
"I'm going to talk to the guys." Shane said and made a hasty retreat.
I had to laugh. "Well, you surely haven't changed."
"I thought having a baby would make me more responsible, but I guess not." Mindy said and laughed.
"Seriously, are you happy?"
She thought for a minute. "I don't think I've ever been happier. I have a wonderful husband, a gorgeous, healthy daughter, a wonderful twin and you for a friend. Life doesn't get much better than this."
I hugged her again. "Then I'm happy for you. You really deserve all this."
"Thanks." Mindy grabbed my arm. "Now come on, let's mingle."
