For Him
By: Eponine

Her hands are tainted with blood,
As she lies in Marius’s arms
Her voice quivers with her impending death
But he promises to protect her from harm.

She was known to him simple as “Eponine”
Not ‘dear’ or ‘darling’ or ‘love’
He was known to Eponine as “him”
He was the sun and stars above.

Now her smile is weak and weary,
And her eyes are glazed with fear,
And she whispers with her dying breath,
Words only Marius will hear.

His voice trembles as he comforts her,
But her life is fading fast away,
She never was anything but a friend to him,
But he knows the truth now as she says

“I think, Monsieur Marius, I was a little in love with you”
And asks for a simple kiss,
And in her eyes he sees her love,
The love he’ll surely miss.

Her body’s limp in his embrace now,
A simple tear drops from his eye
As he realizes she loved him more than life itself
And proved it as she died.
