Summertime ShowdownSummertime Showdown, known initially as Summer Showdown, is a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event, broadcast annually in August by the professional wrestling promotion MECCA. The first event took place on August 20, 2005, from Turner Hall in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 2006, the event name was changed to Summertime Showdown to make it not as similar to WWE's SummerSlam PPV the same month. Contents |
HistoryWhen MECCA began, its pay-per-view schedule was only bi-monthly. With the success of its previous pay-per-views, in July of 2005 MECCA announced that their fourth PPV, Summer Showdown, would air on August 20. Summer Showdown 2005BackgroundSummer Showdown was the fourth pay-per-view broadcast live by MECCA. It took place at Turner Hall in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on August 20, 2005. The event was released on DVD via the MECCA website several weeks later. Its theme song was "BYOB" by System of a Down. During the summer of 2005, Nykk and Low Ki were in the midst of a heated rivalry. Ki had attacked Nykk after accusing him of not paying dues properly in the business, which prevented Nykk from participating in a match to get a shot at the MECCA Championship. Nykk would retaliate, and they ended up meeting at Midsummer Night Slam, with Ki coming out on top. Nykk wasn't satisfied and wanted a rematch with Ki. It was granted to him at Liberty or Death with a shot at the title on the line, and Nykk got the win back. Later in the night he would use that title shot to unseat CM Punk for the belt. After retaining against Punk in a rematch on August 9, Nykk challenged Low Ki to one more match to settle the score at Summer Showdown, even putting the belt on the line. Ki upped the ante and proposed they do it in a Submission Match. Nykk agreed, and the main event was booked for the PPV. In mid-2005, CM Punk and SELF were riding high in MECCA. But that all changed when Punk lost the MECCA Championship at Liberty or Death. He blamed his protege Eddie Crowe for the loss, increasing the physical and verbal abuse toward him. Eddie's brother Jay Crowe was no longer able to stand watching him get bullied and left SELF. Later in the night, he got into a shouting match with SELF and challenged Punk to a match at Summer Showdown. For his part, Eddie stayed loyal to Punk, and it seemed his and Jay's best friend Dusty Schneble would as well. However, when Dusty and Eddie were supposed to team up on August 16, Dusty didn't show, essentially putting Eddie in a Handicap Match. Later in the night, Eddie attacked Jay in the ring, but Dusty also did not participate in the beat down. The Cynric and Kevin Stone feud would also continue at Summer Showdown. After turning on his partner over frustration at failing to win the MECCA Tag Team Championship, as well as his place in the company, Stone and Cynric would meet at Liberty or Death. Stone won, but by cheating, and Cynric wasn't done with him. They met on the next Go Time, in a brawl that went out of control around the arena. Officials couldn't stop them, and even MECCA authority Katie Piehl got a taste of what it was to be in the ring when Stone gave her the Stone Crusher on the stage. Due to his talent, Katie did not suspend or fire him, and Cynric challenged him to an Anything Goes match at Summer Showdown to settle the score. Results
Summertime Showdown 2006BackgroundIn 2006, the name of the event was tweaked to Summertime Showdown. It was broadcast live on pay-per-view on August 26, 2006, emanating from the 3M Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The event theme song was "Animals" by Nickelback. At Midsummer Night Slam in June of 2006, Bryan Danielson won the first ever Six Pack Apocalypse, earning him a shot at the MECCA Championship at Summertime Showdown in August. In the meantime, MECCA authority booked a dream partner tag match for the main event of Liberty or Death in July. Danielson and Kevin Stone defeated Low Ki and the MECCA Champion Eddie Crowe when Danielson made the champ tap out, giving him a big psychological edge going into their title match. With his newfound cocky attitude, Danielson needled Crowe, even during his matches, which prompted Eddie to come to the ring and attack him on the August 9 episode of Go Time and causing him to be counted out against his brother Jay Crowe two weeks later. In mid-2006, Nykk was faced with a tough choice. Due to a non-nepotism clause in his contract with MECCA, he could either embrace and accept the love of fellow wrestler Lisa Letty, or resign as co-owner of MECCA. Trent Acid used this to his advantage by hitting on Lisa and getting in Nykk's way time and time again. He cost Nykk the win in the Six Pack Apocalypse, and then beat him on Go Time due to use of a steel pipe and at Liberty or Death, due to some accidental interference with the same pipe from Lisa, who was the special guest referee. When Nykk was about to announce his decision on August 16, Acid interrupted to once again antagonize him and Lisa. Nykk snapped and attacked him, revealing that he had Acid in one more match at Summertime Showdown, and it would be a Pipe on a Pole Match. The next week, Acid confessed that he was never after Lisa, and had just been using Nykk's distraction as a way to advance up the card. After the breakup of The Dangerous Liaison, LuFisto wasted no time in going after the MECCA Ladies' Championship held by her former partner-in-crime Gail Kim. LuFisto finally won the belt in a Hardcore Match at Midsummer Night Slam, but Kim wasted no time in going for a rematch. She won the right to that match at Liberty or Death, but there was some disagreement on what their title match at Summertime Showdown should be. LuFisto, the First Lady of Hardcore, wanted another Hardcore Match. Kim, the Sensation of Submission, wanted a Submission Match. MECCA authority Katie Piehl met them halfway and booked an I Quit Match, one that would favor the strengths of both competitors. Results
Summertime Showdown 2007BackgroundSummertime Showdown was broadcast live on pay-per-view on August 25, 2007, emanating from the Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio. In the summer of 2007, The House of Lords was running rampant in MECCA. Nykk had the power in the company, and his group held every title as of the July 25 episode of Go Time. However, there were still MECCA loyalists willing to fight them. Alan Mayse had won the Eight-Man Throwdown at Punked Out, giving him the right to face Ronin Fox for the MECCA World Heavyweight Championship at Summertime Showdown. But everyone was shocked when Fox made a plea for Alan to join the House of Lords rather than fight them. Alan said he would never join them, but Fox persisted. Fox said he used to fight against people like Nykk as well, but he joined him and has the World Title now. Alan told him his energy would be better spent preparing for their match. On the July 11 episode of Go Time, Katie Piehl made her return to MECCA, with some of her former authority restored by the board of directors. She made a Best of Three tag team series for Liberty or Death between the MECCA loyalists and The House of Lords. The winners would have the power to book the show for Summertime Showdown the next month. MECCA won the series, and Katie wasted no time in giving Kevin Stone and Bryan Danielson a shot at The Pyro Twins' tag titles. She also booked Daizee Haze against Lisa Letty for the Ladies' Title as well as The UK Wrecking Crew against the House of Lords in an eight-man tag match. Results
Summertime Showdown 2008BackgroundSummertime Showdown was broadcast live on pay-per-view on August 30, 2008, emanating from the Aladdin Casino and Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. At Punked Out, Austin Lee won the Eight-Man Throwdown and the right to face Anubis for the MECCA World Heavyweight Championship at Summertime Showdown. They were teamed together over the next couple of weeks, as they both entered into a rivalry with Epsilon Epsilon Epsilon. However, on the August 6 episode of Go Time, things broke down during a tag team battle royale when Austin helped eliminate Anubis, who eliminated Austin in turn. They got into a shoving match while teaming in an eight-man tag against EEE the next week, costing their team the match. They got into it again the next week after losing a tag match, prompting The Wild Wolf to try and calm down their respective partners. Anubis responded by shoving Wolf down and storming off. Austin responded that he was through pretending to be Anubis's friend, and should never have acted like one in the first place. In February of 2008, The Briscoes finally won the MECCA Tag Team Championship from Nykk & Ronin Fox. The Briscoes went on a tear over the next several months in the tag team division while Nykk and Fox attempted to hold onto what little power The House of Lords had left after Nykk lost the World Title at The MECCA Challenge. As summer came to a close, Nykk and Fox finally looked into getting their rematch. They were entered into a tag team battle royale on August 6, where they won a title shot at Summertime Showdown. When the Briscoes retained the belts on August 13 against The Surgeons, their rematch with Nykk and Fox was signed for the pay-per-view. At The MECCA Challenge IV, Bryan Danielson looked to be about to win the 16-man Battlebrawl match when Jamie Chan swooped in out of nowhere with a flash pin and snatched victory away. Danielson got his payback at New Dawn when he beat Chan one on one, only to be attacked afterward by Chan and his manager Prince Nana. Both men ended up qualifying for Eight-Man Throwdown at Punked Out, and Chan once again got a cheap pin on Danielson during the eight-man tag. In response, Danielson asked for one more match against Chan at Summertime Showdown, this time in a Falls Count Anywhere Match. He was granted his request. Results
Summertime Showdown 2009BackgroundSummertime Showdown was broadcast live on pay-per-view on August 29, 2009, emanating from the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, New York. By the summer of 2009, the ROH vs. MECCA feud was rapidly coming to a head. Ronin Fox had managed to take the Toughman Championship back from Bryan Danielson, but Danielson was still the adamant leader of Team ROH. MECCA challenged them to settle it all in a Perimeter of Pain Match at Summertime Showdown, which they accepted. MECCA executor Katie Piehl picked Nykk and Fox as the co-captains of Team MECCA. The first man they recruited was their old rival, but a man who bled MECCA just like they did, former World Champion Eddie Crowe. Unfortunately, due to the stipulation that they could no longer team with The Pyro Twins after losing the Round Robin Faction War, they could not recruit their oldest friends to their side. Instead, they chose two of the members of Epsilon Epsilon Epsilon who had defeated The House of Lords in the final Round Robin match, Robbie and Gary. Danielson, in the meantime, was chosen as co-captain of Team ROH and rallied the men who had fought against MECCA. Takeshi Morishima, Roderick Strong, Davey Richards, and Eddie Edwards joined his team for the ultimate showdown with MECCA. Though it was unfortunate that the Pyro Twins could not compete in the Perimeter of Pain, one member planned to contribute to the war in his own way. After Nykk lost a chance at a rematch for the ROH Title, Dusty Schneble challenged Austin Aries to a match for the title at Summertime Showdown. Aries accepted the challenge on August 12, saying he had already beaten MECCA's best and Dusty would be no problem. Jay Crowe, meanwhile, had won the Eight-Man Throwdown series back at Punked Out, earning him a shot at the World Title at Summertime Showdown. World Champion Anubis wasted no time in getting in his opponent's head when he cost the Pyro Twins a match for the MECCA World Tag Team Championship on the August 5 edition of Go Time. Jay got in his face in the locker room, and a brawl erupted between them, which ended with Jay using his finisher the Overhaul to drop Anubis on his head on the concrete floor. Anubis was hurt so bad that he had to be taken out of the Double Jeopardy Match later in the main event. On August 26, Anubis returned the favor by ambushing Jay as he was attempting to make the save for his partner against Team ROH. Anubis hurt Jay's back by dropping a section of the guardrail on it, keeping him out of the main event later on. Anubis confirmed later that he did it to give him a receipt, and that they were on even ground now. Results
Summertime Showdown 2010BackgroundSummertime Showdown was broadcast live on pay-per-view on August 28, 2010, emanating from the Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio. At Punked Out, Alan Mayse defeated Jamie Chan for the MECCA World Championship. On the same night, Nykk won Eight-Man Throwdown, winning a title shot and putting them on a collision course for Summertime Showdown. Nykk stated many times that he would rather face his best friend Ronin Fox in their hometown and encouraged him to go after the title. Fox faced Alan for the belt on the July 28 episode of Go Time. Nykk came out to stop interference from Mayse's manager Dave Prazak, but Mayse still managed to retain the title. In retaliation, Mayse interfered in Nykk's match the next week, costing him and The Wild Wolf the MECCA World Tag Team Championship. On August 11, Nykk gave Alan a warning that he was going to remind him exactly who he was and what he was capable of. Later in the night, Nykk cost Mayse a match against Wolf and tried to cripple him with the Aurora Driver before Prazak intervened and Alan slipped away. Mayse tried to interfere in Nykk's match with Ares in the next week's main event, but intervention from Ronin Fox allowed Nykk to win the match. This touched off a brawl between both men's allies, and an eight-man elimination tag was booked for August 25. It came down to Nykk and his cousin Ryan Andrews, with Andrews picking up the win after Mayse hid under the ring after his own elimination, coming out to help Andrews. After the match, he laid Nykk out and stuck the title belt in his face, saying this was as close as Nykk would ever get to the title again. The feud between former Pyro Twins Jay Crowe and Dusty Schneble had raged on for months by August with no end in sight. Despite the ferocity of their battles, Jay had yet to get a win over his former partner. At Never Say Die, their match was canceled due to safety concerns, but that didn't stop them from finding each other and brawling all over the arena. It only ended when Dusty locked Jay inside a suitcase and set fire to it. Despite being trapped, timely intervention by officials made sure Jay escaped singed but unscathed. On the August 4 edition of Go Time, Jay said the feud needed to end and challenged Dusty to a Ring of Fire match for Summertime Showdown, where the only way to lose was to be lit on fire. Dusty readily accepted, and the next week Jay tried to intimidate Dusty by burning him in effigy after his match. On August 18, Dusty retaliated after his match against Jay's brother-in-law Gary Kopp. Dusty tried to burn his face with a lighter after beating him, knowing Jay wasn't there to stop it. Kopp's partner Jack Evans intervened before Kopp could be burnt. After taking part in an eight-man elimination tag the next week, Jay and Dusty were counted out when they brawled out of the arena and to the outside. Jay tried to beat down Dusty with the help of Kopp and Evans, but Dusty managed to fight them off and throw Jay onto a pallet. He tried to burn Jay once again with his lighter, but Jay moved and Dusty set the pallet aflame as officials arrived to separate them. The UK Wrecking Crew returned to MECCA in a big way in 2010, winning the tag titles from The Invincible Outlaws at Punked Out. However, the Outlaws were incensed at the victory and took it out on the UKWC's old stablemate Tristan Lee on the next Go Time. Tristan formed a partnership with Toughman Champion Davey Richards to take them on, but they were unsuccessful. The Outlaws then won a tag team battle royale at Never Say Die on July 24, winning a shot at the MECCA World Tag Team Championship. They wasted no time in cashing in their shot, and on the next Go Time defeated the UKWC to win the belts back. Nathans and Fletcher weren't done with them, however, and challenged them to a Hooligan Riot at Summertime Showdown, where each team would bring a crew to support them, and pinfalls and submissions counted anywhere in the building. The Outlaws accepted, and Richards and Tristan wasted no time in volunteering to be a part of the UKWC's crew. Tristan and Richards took on the Outlaws on August 18, only to be accosted by Bloodlust, who had developed a rivalry with them. The UK Wrecking Crew came out to even the odds, and as a result Bloodlust volunteered to be on the Outlaws' side for the Hooligan Riot. On August 25, the Outlaws challenged the UKWC, Richards and Lee to meet them out back for a rumble, and they readily accepted. Three more unknown men attacked them when they got there, allowing the Outlaws and Bloodlust to ambush them before officials arrived to break up the fight. Results
Summertime Showdown 2011BackgroundSummertime Showdown was broadcast live on pay-per-view on August 27, 2011, emanating from the Gwinnett Center in Atlanta, Georgia. In the summer of 2011, the feud between MECCA and The Absence of Light was coming to a head. MECCA authority Katie Piehl had revealed her true colors as as the lover of Jimmy Jacobs, was doing everything in her power to help him regain the MECCA World Championship he once held. In July, Katie made a challenge to champion Jamie Chan to field a team to compete against the Absence of Light in a Perimeter of Pain match at Summertime Showdown. Chan eagerly agreed, but on the August 17 episode of Go Time, Piehl made an additional challenge. She agreed that she and Jacobs would leave MECCA if their side lost at Summertime Showdown if Chan would put up the World Title in the match. If their side won, the title would be returned to Jimmy Jacobs. Chan agreed to the stipulation, and sought out a team to compete against the Absence of Light, recruiting Ronin Fox, Eddie Crowe, The Wild Wolf and Gran Akuma. In June, The UK Wrecking Crew won a chance at the MECCA World Tag Team Championship when they beat the champions High Def in a non-title match. Their subsequent title match went to the time limit, and afterward the UKWC's frustrations boiled over. They attacked High Def and left them laying after not getting the extra five minutes they wanted. Nathans and Fletcher stated they were upset about the fact that they gave High Def the chance to get in on their number one contenders' match back in the spring, but never got the title shot they were promised in return should High Def win the belts. Katie Piehl booked a Best of Five Series between the two teams, with the winners of each match getting to choose the stipulation for the next one. High Def won the first encounter on the July 20 episode of Go Time, and chose a Texas Tornado match for Never Say Die. The UKWC won that match and picked a Submission match for the next encounter on August 3. The UKWC won that one as well, and chose a Tables Match for the next week. With their backs against the wall, High Def won the match, forcing one final encounter. They chose a Ladder match for Summertime Showdown, but the UKWC was very confident considering they won their most recent Tag Team Championship in a Ladder match the previous fall. Problems between Anubis and Ryan Andrews began at Never Say Die, when they got into a verbal confrontation before Anubis's match that evening. They faced one another on the August 10 Go Time, with Andrews getting the win after cheating. Anubis was incensed, and it looked like Andrews would earn a rematch for the World Title with Jamie Chan, but due to the way the match ended, both men were granted the shot the next week in a Triangle match. Chan retained the title, but Anubis blamed Andrews for costing him the match after being hit with a chair. They were then booked in a rematch against one another at Summertime Showdown. Results
Summertime Showdown 2012BackgroundSummertime Showdown was broadcast live on pay-per-view on August 25, 2012, emanating from Calihan Hall in Detroit, Michigan. After solidifying his title reign at Never Say Die, MECCA World Champion Marcus Kavian turned his eyes toward a new challenger. Ronin Fox had won the Eight-Man Throwdown back at Punked Out, earning him a shot at the MECCA World Championship at Summertime Showdown. Kavian and Fox were no strangers to one another, as Kavian had used deceit and unsportsmanlike conduct to injure and beat Fox back at The MECCA Challenge VIII in April. Kavian referenced their hatred going back even farther than that, to when Bloodlust feuded with The Creation in 2009. He stated that Fox was past his peak, and that he was the new blood in the main event scene. Fox responded that he has proven he had longevity, and had seen a lot of guys like Kavian rise up and then fade away while he remained. He promised to finally win back the World Title he once held at Summertime Showdown. On the July 4 episode of Go Time, MECCA Authority Cynric introduced the MECCA Legacy Championship and announced the Legacy Tournament, where sixteen men would compete to crown the first champion at Summertime Showdown. Alex Shelley was one of the men to get to the finals, defeating Aaron Glover, Jon Davis and Jimmy Rave along the way. Eddie Crowe had it a bit easier when his brother Jay Crowe and Tristan Lee went to a time limit draw in the first round. After defeating The Wild Wolf, that meant Eddie received a bye to the semi-finals, where he beat Jack Evans. Shelley and Crowe were then signed to meet at Summertime Showdown, with the Legacy Championship on the line. At Never Say Die, The Near Future won more gold when Aaron Glover and Terrence Bolton gained the MECCA World Tag Team Championship. But Austin Lee was far from finished with the Near Future after losing the World Title to Marcus Kavian. He enlisted the help of his brother Tristan and they won a chance at the Tag Team Championship on the August 15 episode of Go Time. Austin vowed to do his part in taking down the Near Future and winning the Tag Team Titles for himself and his brother. Results
Summertime Showdown 2013BackgroundSummertime Showdown was broadcast live on pay-per-view on August 31, 2013, emanating from Odeum Expo Center in Chicago, Illinois. At Punked Out, Alex Shelley was victorious in Eight-Man Throwdown, earning him a shot at the MECCA World Championship in the main event of Summertime Showdown. That same night, Eddie Crowe became the new World Champion. After retaining his title at Never Say Die, Eddie and The Circle of Trust wasted no time in trying to soften up Shelley for the title match, well aware that Shelley had beaten Eddie one year before. They paid off Low Ki to take out Shelley, and he did exactly that after their match on the August 7 episode of Go Time. Shelley retaliated by costing Eddie a non-title match two weeks later. The Circle of Trust tried to take out Shelley on August 28, but a number of other competitors and teams got involved, resulting in a ten-man tag being booked for the main event. Shelley was able to lead his team to victory, gathering momentum for his title match in just three days' time. The Pyro Twins were infuriated that they lost the MECCA World Tag Team Championship to Aaron Glover & Terrence Bolton, demanding their rematch and going so far as to try to deny other teams a shot at the titles. They attacked Glover and Bolton on the July 31 episode of Go Time, putting Bolton through a table. Meanwhile, The Young Bucks and The Peacemakers had been locked in a rivalry of their own that saw chairs used on numerous occasions. The Peacemakers and Glover and Bolton got involved in a match between the Young Bucks and the Pyro Twins the very next week, and the Peacemakers ended up clearing the ring with the use of a ladder. They demanded to be named the number one contenders to the titles, but MECCA Authority Cynric had other plans. Seeing the brawls between these teams, he booked a TLC Match for Summertime Showdown between the four teams with the Tag Team Championship on the line. Marcus Kavian lost the World Title to Eddie Crowe at Punked Out in large part due to the interference of Gary Kopp. Kopp would continue to plague Kavian, costing him the Four Corners Match for the title at Never Say Die as well. But on July 31, Kavian attacked Kopp to keep him from interfering in Eddie Crowe's title defense against Brian Kendrick. Kavian demanded Kopp face him at Summertime Showdown, and since Kavian still held a spot on the Contender Star, Kopp eagerly accepted the match. Kavian then won a lot of momentum heading into the match on August 28, when his team was victorious opposite Kopp's team in a ten-man tag. Results
Summertime Showdown 2014BackgroundSummertime Showdown was broadcast live on pay-per-view on August 30, 2014, emanating from 1stBank Center in Denver, Colorado. In the spring of 2014, Drake Younger turned against his friend Torea in a bid to win the MECCA World Championship. He was able to do so at New Dawn, and proclaimed himself the "Golden Boy" of MECCA. Torea wanted his title back, but it took winning the Eight-Man Throwdown at Punked Out in order to do it. This put them on a collision course for Summertime Showdown. Younger wished to prove himself to be the new face of MECCA, while Torea wanted to regain what was taken from him. During the summer, Nykk set out to rebuild The Circle of Trust, which had been floundering ever since The Pyro Twins had been kicked out. Looking for friends and family as was the theme for the Circle of Trust, Nykk approached his cousin Ryan Andrews, who had recently broken out on his own from his tag team partner Jimmy Rave. Andrews was reluctant, but agreed to give it a chance. He and Eddie Crowe both made it to the finals of the Eight-Man Throwdown, but Eddie got int he way and accidentally caused Andrews to be eliminated. On the next episode of Go Time, he made his decision and officially turned down Nykk's offer. Nykk was enraged, and the Circle of Trust beat Andrews down in the ring, sending him to the hospital. The next week, Andrews's former partner Jimmy Rave approached Nykk about taking the spot that Andrews had vacated. Nykk said he would think about it, but when Rave offered his hand, Rave laid out the Circle of Trust in the name of his former partner. Andrews returned at Never Say Die to help Rave against the Circle of Trust, and their friendship was rekindled. A couple of weeks later, it was announced that Andrews and Rave would meet Crowe and Gary Kopp in tag team action at Summertime Showdown. At The MECCA Challenge X, the longest MECCA Ladies' Championship reign came to an end when Melissa Flash lost to Jessicka Havok after interference from Havok's old friend Allysin Kay. Flash worked her way back into contention and got a rematch at Punked Out, but lost again after Sassy Stephie interfered. Together, Havok, Stephie, and Kay formed The Midwest Militia, and ran roughshod over the ladies' division with the goal being to protect Havok's Ladies' Title. Flash was able to earn one more shot at the champion, and chose a Falls Count Anywhere stipulation for Summertime Showdown. But with a match that had no disqualifications, that meant Stephie and Kay were free to interfere at will, but Flash vowed she would not let that keep her from the championship. Results
Summertime Showdown 2015BackgroundSummertime Showdown was broadcast live on pay-per-view on August 29, 2015, emanating from the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. Back at The MECCA Challenge XI, after months of chasing a title shot, Torea finally regained the MECCA World Championship from his long time rival Marcus Kavian. Kavian sought a rematch, but was unable to secure one until he entered the Eight-Man Throwdown at Punked Out. Kavian won the tournament, granting him a shot at the World Title at Summertime Showdown. On the July 28 edition of Go Time, Kavian attacked Torea at the end of the show and left him laying. The next week, he claimed that he would get the upper hand on Torea for every show leading up to Summertime Showdown in an attempt to get into the champ's head. However, Kavian was able to live up to his word as for five straight weeks he got one up on Torea, frustrating the champion and raising Kavian's confidence even higher heading into Summertime Showdown. At Punked Out, former Ladies' Champion Melissa Flash blew her shot at regaining the MECCA Ladies' World Championship when she got herself disqualified against Serena Deeb. The two got into it again on Go Time, and MECCA Authority Cynric decided against an immediate rematch and gave them a cooling off period. Deeb would win her title defenses in July, while Flash stewed about not getting a rematch. She finally said she was coming for Deeb and the title, and this time she was after Deeb's career. She finally got her rematch for the title for Summertime Showdown, but Deeb was not about to wait around for Flash to try and end her career. She took the fight to her challenger over the next couple of weeks, showing her that she would not be intimidated. On the June 30 edition of Go Time, The Young Bucks would retain their MECCA World Tag Team Championship. However, Matt Jackson suffered an injury to his bicep during the match, and it was determined by doctors that he would be out of action for two or three months. This caused MECCA Authority Cynric to declare the tag titles vacant, since the Jacksons would not be able to make any title defenses during the month of July or August. He decided to put up the titles in an eight-team single elimination tournament, with the finals taking place at Summertime Showdown. On July 21, Alex Shelley was set to team with Terrence Bolton in the first round, but Shelley tricked Bolton into leaving the arena for the night. Instead, he introduced his former partner Chris Sabin, who had made his MECCA debut days before at Never Say Die, and declared that The Motor City Machine Guns were back. They defeated the team of Aaron Glover and Trent Baretta to advance, and then defeated Shark Attack in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, The Pyro Twins were looking for their seventh Tag Team Championship. They defeated Gary Kopp and The Wild Wolf in the first round, and Oi4K in the semi-finals. This put them on a collision course with the Motor City Machine Guns in a first time ever dream match at Summertime Showdown, with the Tag Team Titles on the line. Results
