Coming Together
In the early 2010s, Gary Kopp and Jack Evans formed the team of High Def, winning the MECCA World Tag Team Championship twice. After their breakup and feud in 2012, they went their separate ways until their paths crossed again in early 2016. Kopp was on his own, but Evans had been teaming with Angelico for the past year as The Hype. Kopp had an issue brewing with The Motor City Machine Guns, who ended up costing him a match against Terrence Bolton on the April 12 episode of Go Time. Bolton joined in on the beatdown after the match, but the Hype made the save to get back at the Machine Guns for costing them a chance at the tag titles the previous week. Kopp thanked them for the assistance and proposed that he and Evans put their animosity behind them and become a trio to take on Bolton and the Machine Guns. Evans and Angelico accepted their offer, and they began calling themselves a Hype Def Remix, later shortened to the Remix.
The Remix was successful in their first outing as a trio, defeating Bolton and the Machine Guns at The MECCA Challenge XII, and again in a rematch on May 17 in England. With Alex Shelley going for the World Title at New Dawn, his partner Chris Sabin still wanted more of the Remix, and stated he would face any two members at the event with his mystery partner. His partner turned out to be an old friend of Evans and Angelico from their days in Mexico, Fenix. Sabin and Fenix defeated Kopp and Angelico, and afterward Fenix stated that he was in MECCA to get payback on Evans and Angelico for leaving him behind in Mexico as they moved up the wrestling ladder. At Punked Out, he interfered as Kopp and Evans went for the tag titles against Skywatch, causing the champs to retain. Kopp ended up winning a petition match to challenge for the Legacy Championship at Summertime Showdown, and Evans and Angelico demanded a shot at the tag champs. MECCA Authority Ronin Fox, who did not like the Remix, stated they would get their shot if they could defeat Fenix and Skywatch in a rematch on the August 2 edition of Go Time. The Remix lost the match after interference from Legacy Champion Marcus Kavian, and Evans and Angelico demanded a fair contest to get their title shot. Fox led them to believe that they would face the members of Skywatch in singles matches on August 16, and if they could win at least one match they would get their title shot at Summertime Showdown. Evans and Angelico agreed, but when the time came Fox revealed that they would actually be facing Skywatch in a pair of handicap matches. Skywatch defeated Angelico immediately afterward, but Evans was able to pull off a win against them later in the night after the rest of the Remix and Fenix became involved. Evans and Angelico would win the belts from Skywatch at Summertime Showdown, while Kopp also became the new Legacy Champion.
