Professional wrestling career
Early career
Alan Mayse began to train in 2001 under Jon Z, a college classmate of Mayse's high school classmate Ronin Fox, who had recently become a professional wrestler. Mayse would make his professional debut in early 2002 and work various independents for the next year and a half.
Future Pay-Per-View Wrestling (2003-2004)
The Beginning
In July of 2003, Jon Z started his own promotion Future Pay-Per-View Wrestling. Mayse was amongst the first wrestlers hired, and competed in a battle royale to open the first show, Premiere Showcase, and lasted until the end before being eliminated by Nykk. Mayse won his match on the next show, Shut Up and Wrestle, beating Cynric and Dusty Schneble in a three-way match. The next month at Breakout, Mayse received the opportunity to become the first FPPVW Champion. He defeated Nykk, Ronin Fox and Jett Tayler in a Four Way Dance to win the belt. The FPPVW TV show Foundation premiered a couple of months later and Mayse main evented the first episode with a win over Nykk in a title match. However, at Bloodbath Nykk would receive a rematch and defeat Mayse for the title in a First Blood match.
Nykk would soon form The Heel Stable with Joey Sprinklers, Kevin Stone and Vix to protect his title from fan favorites like Mayse and Ronin Fox. Mayse would work his way back in contention and beat Fox in a No Holds Barred match at November Pain to earn another shot at the title. They faced off at Darkest Night, and Mayse was able to win back the title. He soon hit a speed bump at Burn It Up, however, losing the title to Super Crazy when Nykk tried to get Alan to cheat by using the ring bell, only for Crazy to get a hold of it and blast Alan. Mayse won the title back from Crazy the next month at Pain and Glory in a four-way match also involving Nykk and Fox. Having defeated all challengers, Mayse wanted some different competition. In response, Jon Z introduced the Gauntlet match in March, where the winner would go on to face the champion at WrestlingRevolution, FPPVW's first anniversary show. Mayse beat Silver King to retain at the Gauntlet event itself, and Austin Lee was the winner of the Gauntlet match.
Mayse and Lee clashed in several tag team matches over the next month, and in every one Lee was able to kick out of Mayse's Tiger Driver before putting him away with his Degenerate Driver. Despite the psychological edge going into their match, Mayse retained at WrestlingRevolution after finally kicking out of the Degenerate Driver and finishing Lee off with a Tiger Driver off the turnbuckles. They met once again in a Ladder match at Sunstroke, and again Mayse retained. He beat Lee a third time on the following episode of Foundation.
Renegade Championship Wrestling (2004-2005)
Company Man
FPPVW changed its branding to Renegade Championship Wrestling in July 2004, and as champion, Alan was now the face of the company. He competed on the first company pay-per-view, Breakout and defeated Ronin Fox in a title match. Over the next month, Chad Collyer was the next contender to emerge, having won a random eight-man tag team match where the winners faced off in a Four Way Dance for the title shot. They met at Firestorm, with Collyer winning by count-out. Collyer offered his hand in sportsmanship after the match, only to turn on Mayse. The rematch took place at Bloodbath in the company's first ever Cage match, with Mayse retaining after escaping the cage. Colt Cabana was the next man to step up and try to end Mayse's title reign, but Alan beat him at both Homecoming Hell and November Pain.
On November 30, Nykk's ultimate plan came to fruition when he engineered a night of chaos, culminating in him goading Mayse into a title match. Nykk won the belt after dropping Mayse on his head with a banned Aurora Driver. Mayse was out for a few weeks, but was after some payback when he returned. He teamed with his old rival Austin Lee, who had his own issue with the Heel Stable, on December 28 to defeat The Pyro Twins for the RCW Tag Team Championship. He was also set to enter the Road to the Revolution Tournament in early 2005, but the company went dark before the tournament really got going. On January 30, Mayse and Lee lost the tag belts back to the Pyro Twins at an unrelated show. The roster reunited for one last show in May for WrestlingRevolution II, where Mayse teamed with Kevin Stone to defeat Black Blade and Bluejay in a tag team match.
Modern Establishment of Competitive Combat Arts (2005-2010)
A New Beginning
With RCW's funds gone and the promotion caught up in a legal battle with its creditors, Nykk hastily put together a deal of his own. He started MECCA, which at first stood for the Midwestern Establishment of Competitive Combat Arts, in order to save the jobs of the workers and crew of RCW. Mayse debuted in April, taking the place of an injured Ronin Fox to compete against Low Ki at the first MECCA Challenge. Mayse won the match, and then confronted the first MECCA Champion CM Punk on the following episode of Go Time, leading to a non-title match that Mayse won by disqualification. Mayse was named Punk's first challenger for the title, but was unable to beat him at Punked Out in May. Over the next few months, Mayse would also set his sights on the MECCA Tag Team Championship with several partners, including Kevin Stone, Joey Sprinklers, and Cynric, but was unable to unseat champions The UK Wrecking Crew. In September, Mayse beat Nykk, now the MECCA Champion, in a non-title match, earning him a shot at the belt at the first FSN special At Your Own Risk in a Four Corner Chaos match that also involved Cynric and Kevin Stone. However, Nykk would retain the title by pinning Cynric.
In early 2006, Mayse took part in the Toughman Tournament, which would culminate in the crowning of the first Toughman Champion at The MECCA Challenge II in April. He beat Shannon Ballard in the first round, and Joey Sprinklers and Low Ki in a Triangle match in the quarter-finals. The semi-finals took place at Melee and consisted of a single four-way match where the winner of the first fall would advance and the man who took the fall would be eliminated, leaving the remaining two wrestlers to battle it out for the second spot in the finals. Trent Acid beat Matt Sydal to win the first fall, leaving Mayse and Ronin Fox. Mayse won the fall, and went on to face Acid in a Ladder match at the MECCA Challenge II. Mayse won and became the first Toughman Champion.
Fighting Champion
Mayse stated his goal was to break his personal record of 290 days he spent as champion in his third RCW title reign. He did not rest on his laurels, retaining over Sydal on the following episode of Go Time and beating Acid in a First Blood match at Punked Out. As the months went on, Mayse turned back a variety of challengers, including his old friend Kevin Stone. They went to a no-contest at Summertime Showdown, but won the rematch in a No Holds Barred match a couple of weeks later. Mayse also accepted challenges from elsewhere in the wrestling world, defeating Masato Tanaka at Scared Stiff. He developed a bit of a rivalry with MECCA Champion Eddie Crowe over whose belt meant more. But they were forced to team with one another during the Championship Series, and won the MECCA Tag Team Championship from Ronin Fox and Cynric, making them both double champions. Their reign was short-lived, however, as they lost the belts to The Killer Kanines at No Regrets.
Mayse joined the fight against David Caldwell, now MECCA co-owner, who wanted to transform the company into David Caldwell Sports Entertainment. Caldwell pressed Mayse into service as a judge of one of the rounds of his Bikini Quest competition, but it quickly degenerated into a brawl as Mayse had words with Caldwell's bouncer, Kishi Fatu. Mayse and Fatu met in a singles match at New Year's Knockout, and Mayse won by disqualification. On Go Time's second anniversary show, he teamed with Nykk and Bryan Danielson to defeat The David Caldwell Project's Fatu, Huh and Jamie Chan. Mayse was also coming up on his 290 day goal as Toughman Champion and if he got past Joey Sprinklers at Bloody Valentine, he would surpass his record. However, Joey cheated to dethrone Mayse of the title at the event. Alan was incensed at Joey's lack of character, and worked his way back into a rematch at The MECCA Challenge III. However, Joey was once again able to use his shenanigans to keep the belt away from Alan.
If You Can't Beat Them...
At the MECCA Challenge III, Nykk retook full control of MECCA and he and his girlfriend Lisa Letty formed a new alliance with Ronin Fox that they called The House of Lords. They quickly added Cynric, Huh, Sprinklers, and Shadow to their ranks, and Mayse was amongst those who fought against them. Mayse participated in the first Eight-Man Throwdown at Punked Out and won, earning the right to face World Champion Ronin Fox at Summertime Showdown. In the meantime, former co-owner Katie Piehl returned as MECCA's new authority figure to counter Nykk's biased decisions. She booked a Best of Three tag team series for Liberty or Death, with the winning side getting to book the House of Lords' matches for Summertime Showdown. Mayse would team with Eddie Crowe and go for the tag titles against the Pyro Twins, but come up short. However, Katie's side went on to win the series. Mayse already had his match with Fox set, but was unable to take the World Title from him.
Nykk and Fox had been trying to get into Alan's head ever since they learned he would face Fox for the title and tried to convince him to join the House of Lords. Mayse refused them, but on September 5 he teamed with Bryan Danielson against Nykk and Fox. He had words with Danielson after they lost, and then cheapshotted him, and revealed he had joined up with the House of Lords. Danielson would go on to win the World Title from Fox the next week, and faced Mayse in a title match at At Your Own Risk, defeating him. Mayse continued to help Fox and Nykk throughout the fall, but the feud against the MECCA loyalists came to a head at End of the Line. Katie Piehl proposed a Best of Five series between the two groups, with the winners gaining control of the company. Mayse would team with Huh, Sprinklers and Cynric to lose to The Lee Brothers, Matt Sydal and Delirious in an eight-man tag. The loyalists would go on to win the series, breaking the House of Lords' stranglehold on the company. Incensed at the loss, Nykk proceeded to fire about half the House of Lords' members on the next Go Time, including Mayse.
Finding Success
Mayse didn't let his firing stop him, as he immediately went after the Toughman Title again. He competed against Anubis and champion The Wild Wolf in a Triangle match at Ignition, but was pinned by Wolf. Eddie Crowe would go on to win the title from Wolf on Go Time: Championship Edition, and Mayse turned his attention to him. He and Eddie faced off at The MECCA Challenge IV, with Eddie winning after countering Mayse's new and deadly Anklebreaker submission into a pinfall. Mayse continued to hound Eddie and try to destroy his ankle, and they met in a rematch at New Dawn in a Ladder match. Mayse weakened Eddie's ankle to the point where he couldn't stand to climb the ladder, and Mayse was able to win the title. However, Eddie wasn't done with him and interfered in his match against Delirious on the next Go Time, costing Alan the title he worked for months to regain.
Mayse got his rematch against Delirious at Punked Out, but was once again upset by the masked man. They met in a Last Man Standing match at Liberty or Death, with Delirious once again squeaking out a win. Mayse received one last title shot at Summertime Showdown in a Submission match. Mayse was finally able to win back the title when Delirious could not withstand the Anklebreaker. Mayse retained in a Four Corners match at At Your Own Risk, and would join Prince Nana's Consulate faction after months of working for them sporadically on October 8. But he would lose his title to former Consulate member The Necro Butcher on October 29.
In early 2009, the Consulate would enter the Round Robin Faction War, a series of elimination matches between factions where the survivors would score points for their teams. The two highest scoring factions would go on to The MECCA Challenge V to battle for guaranteed title shots, while the losing three factions would be forced to split up. At Ignition, the Consulate faced Huh's Hot Dogs in an eight-man elimination tag, and the Consulate swept the match, scoring four points for their team and getting a commanding lead. They would end the tournament with five points, and faced off against Epsilon Epsilon Epsilon, who had also ended with five points. EEE won a ten-man elimination tag at the MECCA Challenge, when it came down to Robbie and Prince Nana. Despite attempted interference from the Consulate, Robbie pinned Nana to win the title shots. Undaunted by the loss, Nana began teaming Mayse and Chan more regularly, and they were able to win the tag belts from the Pyro Twins on the May 6 Go Time. They defended successfully against teams like The Lee Brothers and The Briscoes before losing the belts in a surprise upset to Irish Airborne on July 29. However, the Consulate was able to rebound and regained the titles at Summertime Showdown. They also beat The Briscoes in a No DQ match at At Your Own Risk in what would turn out to be the Briscoes' last match in MECCA.
After losing the titles a couple of weeks later to The Creation, Jamie Chan began to get serious about going after the World Title. Nana didn't want him to, since that meant breaking his business arrangement with World Champion Anubis to provide backup and keep his guys out of the title picture. But Chan persisted and broke away from the Consulate, enraging Nana. Chan would go on to win the World Title and Nana sicced Mayse on his former partner. It therefore seemed serendipitous that Mayse would win the Six-Man Melee match at Six-Man Melee to win a shot at the World Champion at The MECCA Challenge VI. They met for the World Title at the event with Chan coming out on top and laying out Prince Nana, ending the Consulate once and for all.
DP Associates and Retirement
Mayse was so close to the World Title that he could taste it, but had lost his match and his manager in one night. Mayse worked his way back into contention, and announced that he had joined DP Associates and taken on Dave Prazak on his manager. Prazak was instrumental in getting Mayse his rematch against Chan at Punked Out. This time things went Mayse's way and he won the title with the help of Prazak. He retained the title at Never Say Die against Chan in a Last Man Standing match, again with Prazak's help. However, he lost the title at month later at Summertime Showdown to Nykk. During the month of September, Mayse made the decision to step away from in-ring competition. He wrestled his farewell match at At Your Own Risk, losing to Jamie Chan and ending their rivalry.
