Professional wrestling career
Early career
Legend has it that as they were training under Jon Z in 2001, Nykk and Ronin Fox went out to a Steak 'n Shake in the middle of the night for some food. There, they came across a teenager skateboarding through the store's sprinkler system. They struck up a conversation and mentioned that they were training to be wrestlers. Joey turned out to be a lifelong fan, and wanted to be a wrestler himself. He asked where he could train, and they told him. They introduced him to Jon as "Joey Sprinklers," insisting on calling him that rather than using his real name. Sprinklers began training and made his debut the following year. He worked various independents for the next few months.
Future Pay-Per-View Wrestling/Renegade Championship Wrestling (2003-2005)
The Beginning
In July of 2003, Jon Z started his own promotion Future Pay-Per-View Wrestling. Joey was booked on the first show, Premiere Showcase, and participated in the opening battle royale. On the next show, Shut Up and Wrestle, he teamed with Kevin Stone in a loss to The Eccentrics. He suffered another loss at Breakout to Concession Boy. He finally caught a break on the September 12 episode of Foundation when he and Stone helped Nykk beat down FPPVW Champion Alan Mayse. Along with their manager Vix, they formed The Heel Stable and ran roughshod over FPPVW. He helped Stone and Nykk beat down Mayse again at Bloodbath before the main event, leading to Nykk winning the title. They helped Nykk retain at Homecoming Hell against Ronin Fox, and continued to back him up throughout the fall. Joey scored a victory over Concession Boy Sr. at November Pain, but the Heel Stable suffered a setback at Darkest Night when Nykk lost the title back to Mayse.
In January, after frustration on both sides, Kevin Stone quit the Heel Stable, and Joey helped Nykk beat him down and put him out of action. At Pain and Glory, Joey finally put an end to his rivalry with the Concession Boyz by beating Concession Boy Sr. in a Hardcore match. When Nykk crowned new Heel Stable members The Pyro Twins the first FPPVW Tag Team Champions and Jon countered by holding a tournament for the Ohio Tag Team Championship, Nykk sent Joey to disrupt the tournament. However, Joey would team with Swinger and lose two straight matches, eliminating them. Stone would return to action around this time and target Nykk, but Nykk sent Joey after him as a distraction while Nykk took care of business with Alan Mayse and Ronin Fox. Stone defeated Joey in a singles match at WrestlingRevolution on FPPVW's one year anniversary.
When Nykk lost to Stone a month later, he took his ball and went home. In his absence, Austin Lee expressed a desire to become the new Heel Stable leader. His leadership style was very different, as he was nurturing and motivating to those under him rather than abusive. Joey teamed with Lee and the Pyro Twins to take on the Eccentrics and Swinging Justice in an eight-man tag at Bloodbath in September, only for Nykk to return and cost them the match. Nykk would go on to defeat Lee at Homecoming Hell, but after the match the Heel Stable members all beat down Lee, showing that it had all been a ruse and Nykk was still in charge. Joey teamed with Nykk a month later at November Pain to defeat Lee and Ronin Fox in tag team action. He would take part in Nykk's plan to regain the RCW Championship on the next Foundation, and helped Nykk in his defense against Jon Z himself at Darkest Night before being thrown out of ringside.
Joey was set to compete in the Road to the Revolution Tournament beginning in January, but the promotion went dark before he could get going. The RCW roster would reunite for one more show, WrestlingRevolution, in May, where Joey teamed with Aki Mann to lose to the Eccentrics.
Modern Establishment of Competitive Combat Arts (2005-present)
A New Beginning
With RCW's funds gone and the promotion caught up in a legal battle with its creditors, Nykk hastily put together a deal of his own. He started MECCA, which at first stood for the Midwestern Establishment of Competitive Combat Arts, in order to save the jobs of the workers and crew of RCW. On the debut of Go Time, Joey faced Delirious in the very first match in company history in a losing effort. He then embarked on a massive losing streak, coming close to victory several times, but ultimately unable to buy a win. The fans began to pity him and get behind him, rooting him on to win at least one match. Joey's moment finally came on the September 27 edition of Go Time. Off a distraction from Nykk, Joey was able to roll up Low Ki and pin him. This enraged Ki, who went after Sprinklers, who was too afraid to face him again. They ended up opposite one another in the first Stiff Strike Challenge at Scared Stiff, but neither man was able to win the match. Ki finally got Joey in the ring one on one at No Regrets and walked away with the victory after brutalizing Joey the entire match.
Joey would team with several partners to go after the MECCA Tag Team Championship, including Alan Mayse and Eddie Crowe, but was unable to unseat the champions The UK Wrecking Crew. He also competed in the tournament for the MECCA Toughman Championship, beating Andy Nathans in the first round but losing in the three-way semi-finals to Alan Mayse. Low Ki was also involved in that match and held Joey responsible and the war was back on. At The MECCA Challenge II in April, Ki once again defeated Sprinklers in a singles match. Joey would continue to work his way up the card throughout 2006, and by the turn of the year was in a position to challenge Alan Mayse for the Toughman Title. Using chicanery, Joey won the belt from Alan at Bloody Valentine, ending Mayse's reign days before he broke his personal record of 290 days as a champion. Mayse was not happy about this and pursued Joey for a rematch, finally getting it at The MECCA Challenge III. However, Joey was once again able to sneak in a victory and keep the title.
The House of Lords
The same night, Nykk, Ronin Fox, and Lisa Letty formed a new alliance, which they called The House of Lords, and took back all the power in MECCA. They added Cynric to their group on the following Go Time and immediately established dominance. Seeing an opportunity to ride the coattails of his old boss, Joey went looking for Nykk but found Low Ki, who told Joey he had better be looking for him to punch him in the face. Ki went after Joey when he realized that wasn't the case, but Joey was able to successfully convince Nykk to let him join since he held a title. However, he lost that title on May 16 to Ki, upsetting Nykk. Huh also wished to join, and developed a rivalry with Joey over who was the main lackey. Nykk would often send them against his enemies as a buffer, knowing they didn't have a chance of working together and winning. When former MECCA co-owner Katie Piehl returned in July as MECCA's new authority to counter Nykk's decisions, she booked them in a Best of Three tag team series for Liberty or Death, where the winning side would book the House of Lords' matches for Summertime Showdown. Joey teamed with Huh and lost to Kevin Stone and Bryan Danielson, and the House of Lords would go on to lose the series. Joey teamed with Nykk, Huh, and Cynric to face The UK Wrecking Crew at Summertime Showdown and walk out with a win.
Joey continued to back up the House of Lords as the feud against the MECCA loyalists came to a head. Katie Piehl proposed a Best of Five series for End of the Line, with full control of the company up for grabs. Joey teamed with Huh, Cynric, and Alan Mayse to lose to The Lee Brothers, Delirious, and Matt Sydal at the event, with some help from Eddie Crowe, who Joey and Huh had injured on a prior show. On the following Go Time, Nykk was enraged at the failure and decided to downsize the House of Lords. He fired Huh and Joey, who stuck together afterward out of fear of Eddie, who was coming after them. They faced him in a Handicap match at Ignition, but Eddie defeated them. Their partnership broke apart as they brawled after the loss. Joey faced Huh in a losing effort at Melee, and then competed in the Battlebrawl match at The MECCA Challenge IV. In the days following the show, Joey's contract expired and was not renewed.
