Professional wrestling career
Early career
Nykk began to train in 2001 under Jon Z, a college classmate of his friend Ronin Fox, who had recently become a professional wrestler. Nykk and Fox both debuted in the fall of that year as a tag team and worked various independents for the next two years.
Future Pay-Per-View Wrestling (2003-2004)
The Beginning
In July of 2003, Jon Z started his own promotion Future Pay-Per-View Wrestling. Nykk was hired, and right from the first show, Premiere Showcase, entrenched himself as a top guy by winning a battle royale in the opening match and then facing Fox in the main event in a losing effort. He got his win back at Shut Up and Wrestle in a Falls Count Anywhere Match, which was enough to put him in contention to crown the first champion. At Breakout the next month, he faced Fox, Alan Mayse, and Jett Taylor in a Four Way Dance for the FPPVW Championship. Nykk was eliminated alongside Fox as they were unable to answer the referee's ten count and get back in the ring, and Mayse went on to pin Taylor to win the match.
Despite the loss, Nykk was chosen to face Mayse in his first title defense on the inaugural episode of Foundation. Ronin Fox was appointed the special guest referee, and ended up getting into it with Nykk and causing him to lose the match, escalating their rivalry. The next week, Nykk faced Fox for the right to a championship match, but first debuted his new stable, consisting of himself, Joey Sprinklers, Kevin Stone, and Vix, who helped him take out Mayse and win his match against Fox. Stone would help Nykk win the belt from Mayse at Bloodbath in a First Blood Match. Nykk revealed the name of his new group as The Heel Stable and they helped him hold onto the FPPVW Championship at any cost. He defeated Fox at Homecoming Hell, and men such as Matt Stryker and Simon Diamond in subsequent defenses. Alan Mayse eventually beat Nykk for the title at Darkest Night, despite interference from Vix and Diamond.
After Mayse lost the title to Super Crazy at Burn It Up, Nykk began to grow paranoid that Crazy would not return to defend the belt, as he was an FPPVW outsider. His fears seemed to be realized when Crazy failed to show up for an episode of Foundation, and Nykk constantly badgered Jon Z about it. This affected Nykk in the ring as he dropped another match to Fox, and he began to lash out at the Heel Stable over it. He then hatched a plan to purchase the title from Crazy, but it was foiled by Jon Z. Instead, he made Crazy defend the belt in a Four Way Dance at Pain and Glory against Nykk, Fox, and Mayse. Fox eliminated Nykk during the match, and he in turn caused Fox to be eliminated. Nykk placed the blame on Fox and Jon Z for his failure, and to get back at Jon he beat him to crowning the first FPPVW Tag Team Champions on the next Foundation. He gave the belts to The Pyro Twins, claiming they won the titles in a tournament in Rio de Janeiro officiated by his new associate David Caldwell. His revenge against Fox came at Gauntlet in a Dayton Death Match, where Nykk won after dropping Fox on his head twice with the Aurora Driver, a move that had been banned from FPPVW ever since the inaugural title match. Fox had to be stretchered out of the arena, and it was thought he would be out of action indefinitely. As a result, Jon Z banned him from future title matches, which Nykk didn't take kindly to. But the very next week, he claimed to have turned over a new leaf and spent a lot of time convincing Jon that he would change for the better, such as dressing nicely, curbing his own rancor, and winning matches cleanly. Jon wasn't buying it, but Alan Mayse felt he needed to beat Nykk to prove himself as champion and requested a match. Before the ink was even dry on their contract, Nykk was back to his old ways. He faced Mayse at Countdown, but came up short when Ronin Fox returned and cost him the match. Fox attacked Nykk again on the next Foundation after challenging him to a match at WrestlingRevolution, FPPVW's first anniversary show. Nykk accepted the challenge, but not before striking a deal with Austin Lee, who would be challenging Mayse for the World Title. In exchange for helping him end Fox's career, Nykk offered him David Caldwell as the referee for his title match. Jon Z was reluctant to let the match happen, since he was concerned about Fox's neck and didn't want him to end up paralyzed. Finally, he agreed to it when Fox signed a medical waiver, but stated the match wouldn't be sanctioned by FPPVW. At WrestlingRevolution, Nykk's deal with Lee fell apart when The Eccentrics injured Caldwell, which meant Lee refused to help Nykk in his match. Fox got his revenge by dropping Nykk on his head with the Emerald Fusion, pinning him to win their unsanctioned match. Though he was unable to move at first after the match was over, Nykk was eventually able to leave under his own power.
Renegade Championship Wrestling (2004-2005)
The Trickster
On the next Foundation, Nykk took out his anger on the Heel Stable, who had failed to win their matches at WrestlingRevolution. Kevin Stone, who had been kicked out of the Heel Stable a few months prior, ended up challenging Nykk for Sunstroke on June 21. Nykk accepted the challenge, but ended up losing the match. On Foundation, with his frustrations reaching a boiling point, he announced he would be taking a break from FPPVW.
During Nykk's hiatus, FPPVW achieved their goal of getting onto pay-per-view and rebranded under the name Renegade Championship Wrestling. Also during that time, Austin Lee took over leadership of the Heel Stable and appeared to be a better leader than Nykk ever was, trying to help his stablemates and not treat them as inferior. However, Nykk returned at Bloodbath in September, attacking Lee and costing the Heel Stable an eight-man tag team match. On Foundation, he stated he had come to miss RCW and its fans during his break, and noticed the error of his ways after being on the outside looking in. He realized the Heel Stable was a mistake, and vowed to be the man to take it down once and for all. He took on Austin at Homecoming Hell, but after the match looked to be trapped by the Heel Stable. But Sprinklers and the Pyro Twins turned on Lee, revealing Nykk's change of heart to once again be a ruse.
Nykk once again became RCW Champion on the November 30 edition of Foundation, after organizing a night of chaos with the promotion's other villains and trapping Alan Mayse into a title match. He used the Aurora Driver once again to win the match. Jon Z, fed up with Nykk, decided to challenge the champ himself at Darkest Night. Nykk came away with the victory, but again used the Aurora Driver after the match, causing Jon to have to be carried out of the arena. But as Nykk looked to be set to defend against RCW newcomer Bryan Danielson at Burn It Up, adversity struck. RCW had grown very profitable in a very short time, and Jon Z suddenly left the country with money he had allegedly embezzled from the company. The company stopped running shows in early 2005, though the roster did reunite for WrestlingRevolution II in May. Nykk lost the RCW Heavyweight Title to Austin Lee on that night, and the promotion went dark.
Modern Establishment of Competitive Combat Arts (2005-present)
A New Beginning
With RCW's funds gone and the promotion caught up in a legal battle with its creditors, Nykk hastily put together a deal of his own. He started MECCA, which at first stood for the Midwestern Establishment of Competitive Combat Arts, in order to save the jobs of the workers and crew of RCW. On the debut of Go Time, he came out to address the crowd and establish himself as the top guy. He stated that he and Ronin Fox would face off in the main event to crown the first MECCA Champion and use their rivalry to build this promotion the way they did the last. However, his business partner Katie Piehl intervened and nixed the title match, stating that the MECCA board of directors had seen the way he had run roughshod over RCW and as a result banned him from making any executive decisions relating to the promotion's content. Instead, she would be the recognized authority in MECCA. She evaluated talent over the next couple of weeks and decided that the first champion would be the winner of a Round Robin Challenge which would play out over the coming months. The five competitors entered into the Round Robin were Nykk, Fox, Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, and Low Ki. At MECCA's first pay-per-view event, Bloody Valentine on February 12, Nykk defeated Fox in his first match of the Round Robin. He then lost to Low Ki on Go Time, but rebounded by defeating Bryan Danielson at Melee in March. With he and Punk tied at 2-1, they were signed to meet at The MECCA Challenge on April 30 to determine the winner of the tournament and first MECCA Champion.
Nykk and Punk's rivalry had been building since the first few episodes of Go Time, and as Nykk went against the megalomaniac Punk, fans' attitudes toward him started to change and he found himself in their good graces. When Punk debuted Eddie Crowe at Bloody Valentine, he basically used his new charge to force the Pyro Twins into turning on Nykk and joining his new stable, SELF. Nykk and Punk met at the MECCA Challenge in a match contested under MECCA Challenge rules. Punk defeated Nykk, and the two shook hands after their match. However, it turned out to be a ploy as Eddie Crowe attacked Nykk from behind, and the two SELF members stained the title belt with Nykk's blood.
Winning the Gold
Nykk put his quest for the title on hold to teach a lesson to Eddie Crowe, whom he defeated at the next monthly event Punked Out. He was briefly distracted after incurring the wrath of Low Ki, and they traded victories at Midsummer Night Slam and Liberty or Death. After the eight-man tag main event on the latter show, Nykk confronted CM Punk and goaded him into an impromptu title match. Nykk won the match and the MECCA Championship. Two weeks later, he defeated Punk in a rematch on Go Time, and then defeated Ki in a Submission Match at Summer Showdown in August. Shortly thereafter, MECCA signed a deal with FSN to air their bi-monthly events, and at At Your Own Risk in September, Nykk successfully defended the title against Alan Mayse, Kevin Stone, and Cynric in a Four Corner Chaos Match.
On the next Go Time, Nykk was found unconscious backstage. It was apparent someone had attacked him, and Nykk blamed Low Ki due to the bandana he found at the scene of the crime resembling the ones he wore. He eventually learned that Ki was just arriving at the building at the time he was attacked, and knew it couldn't have been him. The next week, in an attempt to patch up their past differences, Nykk offered Ronin Fox a shot at the title at the next pay-per-view Scared Stiff, which Fox accepted. They ended up going to a sixty minute time limit draw in their hometown. On the next Go Time, Nykk was once again attacked backstage, and though he was able to get a look at his attacker, the camera didn't catch it. The next week on November 9, Nykk revealed that it was Fox who had attacked him. He called Fox out for an explanation, and Fox stated that watching the fans start to cheer Nykk made him sick, and by their forgiveness of him it had pissed on everything Nykk had tried to take away from him. He followed this by cheapshotting Nykk yet again. The two met to settle the score in an Ironman Pendulum Match at No Regrets, in which Nykk came out on top. On December 7, Nykk was confronted by a new challenger in Kevin Stone, who beat him for the title.
Love in the Wrong Places
On the December 21, Stone interrupted a match between female competitors Lisa Letty and Misery to cut a promo on his rematch with Nykk at New Year's Knockout. Misery tricked Stone into thinking Lisa was tapping him on the shoulder, despite his wishes not to be touched. It was enough to anger Stone, who shoved Lisa down and may have done worse, but Nykk made the save. Lisa sought him out on the next Go Time to thank him for his intervention.
The two eventually became friends and developed a common enemy in MECCA newcomer Charlie Haas and his wife Jackie. Lisa was in Nykk's corner for his match against Haas at Snowed In. During a brawl with Jackie, Lisa accidentally caused him to lose, and was so ashamed that she didn't contact him afterward. When she tried to apologize on Go Time, Nykk said he was just relieved that she was okay and cared more about that than winning the match. He and Lisa then decided to team up and scored a victory against Haas and Jackie in a Mixed Tag Team Match at Bloody Valentine. With their feud escalating, Nykk challenged Haas to face him at the MECCA Challenge II in the MECCA Challenge Match. Unlike the previous year, Nykk came out victorious, and Haas left MECCA immediately after.
After the MECCA Challenge, Nykk and Lisa's feelings for each other started to grow more apparent, but Nykk was too chicken to make a move and ask her out. Trent Acid saw his chance and swooped in to hit on her, which Lisa did not appreciate. When he persisted, Nykk confronted him and got him to back off. But Acid still wouldn't leave Lisa alone, and when he stated that Nykk wasn't her boyfriend, he flew into a rage. Later that night, he cost Nykk his spot on the Contender Star against Cynric. They both participated in the inaugural Six Pack Apocalypse match at Midsummer Night Slam, with Nykk eliminating Acid. When the match came down to Nykk and Bryan Danielson, Acid returned the favor and took out Nykk's knee with a lead pipe, leading to a Danielson victory. On the next Go Time, Nykk took on Acid one on one, but his attempt to get revenge with the lead pipe backfired, leading to an Acid victory. On July 12, Nykk finally mustered the courage to ask Lisa out, and she gladly accepted, only to have Acid show up and ruin their moment. Nykk faced Acid in a rematch at Liberty or Death, this time with Lisa Letty as the special guest referee. Trent Acid once again introduced a lead pipe into the match, but this time tricked Lisa into accidentally hitting Nykk with it after he kissed her, and as ref she was forced to count Nykk's shoulders down.
On the next Go Time, Katie Piehl reluctantly revealed to Nykk that due to the anti-nepotism clause he agreed to as part-owner of MECCA, if he continued his relationship with Lisa he could be ousted by the board of directors. She told him he had to make a decision between Lisa and his ownership of MECCA. Nykk was torn between his love for Lisa and his love for the company, but she told him that she would support him no matter what his decision. He and Lisa appeared on David Caldwell's talk segment The David Caldwell Project the next week to reveal his decision. When he was about to announce his decision, Trent Acid interrupted him. When he hit on Lisa again, Nykk attacked him and revealed that he and Acid would meet one more time at Summertime Showdown in a Pipe on a Pole Match. After his match on the next Go Time, Nykk called Lisa out to the ring. When he seemed to be about to choose her over his ownership of MECCA, Lisa stopped him, stating that she realized that this company was his life, and she couldn't stand in the way of that. Taking the decision away from him, she broke it off with him before fleeing the ring in tears. During the Pipe on a Pole Match with Acid, Nykk became trapped in the ropes, allowing Acid free reign to injure him. Lisa ran down to the ring to plead with Acid to stop hurting him, and the distraction allowed Nykk to break free and take Acid out with the pipe. After winning the match, she apologized for getting involved, but Nykk stopped her, stating that he loved her and giving up his share of the company was a small price to pay for that love. She accepted his embrace, and they shared a kiss in the ring. On the next Go Time, Katie Piehl stated that Nykk had found a buyer for his share of MECCA. On the same night, Ronin Fox and Cynric defended their Tag Team Championship against Nykk and Joey Sprinklers, who had Lisa in their corner. Nykk and Joey came up short, but a brawl erupted after the match where Fox ended up accidentally whacking Lisa in the back of the head with a metal trash masher, rendering her unconscious and immobile. Lisa came to as EMTs attended her, but said she couldn't feel anything below her neck. The very next week, Nykk declared his intention to take a hiatus to be by Lisa's side as she was convalescing, perhaps feeling that this was his comeuppance for his past attempts to cripple Fox and others. But before he left, he stated his intention to end Ronin Fox once and for all when he returned. He then somewhat inexplicably revealed that the new co-owner of MECCA who had bought his shares was none other than his old associate David Caldwell.
War with Fox and the Project
Nykk stayed away from MECCA for six weeks until Scared Stiff 2006 on October 28. He appeared after Ronin Fox's title match with Eddie Crowe, attacking his perennial rival and attempting to do him in with the same type of trash masher he had injured Lisa with. Nykk challenged Fox to MECCA's first ever Steel Cage Match for No Regrets, which Fox had to be coerced into accepting. Fox won the match on the bi-monthly special, but Lisa Letty emerged from under the mat and blasted Fox in the head with a trash masher, gaining some measure of payback.
However, the MECCA Nykk and Lisa returned to was in turmoil. David Caldwell had used his power as co-owner to push a more sports entertainment-oriented product, as opposed to the athletic, action-based product Nykk and Katie favored. With the help of his faction, the David Caldwell Project, Caldwell attempted to run down anyone who opposed his views. One of his ideas was the Bikini Quest, an obvious takeoff of WWE's Diva Search. When Lisa returned to the company, Caldwell approached her about taking part in the contest. Lisa was repulsed by the idea, but she was forced to participate after losing a match to the Project's Zoe Alexander. But Caldwell went too far on the December 13 episode of Go Time when he told the ladies their task for the week was to expose their breasts for the world to see. Nykk intervened, and clocked Caldwell in the ensuing ruckus, setting off a feud with Caldwell's faction. Caldwell sicced his bouncer, Kishi Fatu, on Nykk, and the two met at Snowed In 2007, with Nykk picking up the win but eating a Stinkface after the match. Nykk participated in the Six-Man Apocalypse the next month and lasted until the final three before being eliminated by Fox. Nykk, Lisa, and Katie Piehl rallied the troops to fight against the David Caldwell Project and challenged them to an Ultimate MECCA Challenge at The MECCA Challenge III with full ownership of MECCA on the line. Nykk was named team captain, and Low Ki, Kevin Stone, and The Killer Kanines represented MECCA against David Caldwell's team of Bryan Danielson, Huh, Jamie Chan, and The Concession Dream Team. Ten days before the event, David Caldwell suspended Nykk for two weeks due to his failure to request a leave of absence when he took time off to be with Lisa, which would force him to miss the MECCA Challenge pay-per-view. Katie Piehl came up with a solution that involved signing over her ownership to Nykk for one night, which would allow him to be in the building. In the Ultimate MECCA Challenge, Nykk and Danielson eliminated each other at the same time, but Nykk's team won when Danielson betrayed the Project, allowing Kevin Stone to pick up the victory. Jubilant at the victory, Nykk sent his team as well as Katie Piehl and the Pyro Twins out to celebrate, though he had to stay through the rest of the show considering he was still technically in charge. Nykk appeared during the main event title match between Eddie Crowe and Ronin Fox, seemingly to stop Cynric from interfering. However, after Eddie won the match, Lisa came down to the ring and helped Fox attack Eddie. She and Fox embraced afterward. Nykk pretended to be upset about this before embracing Fox himself. The three of them took out Eddie and much of the remaining roster. He stated that he never liked the idea about giving his power back after one night, and named this new faction The House of Lords.
The House of Lords
The next night, Nykk revealed that this entire plan had not been his but Lisa's. They wanted revenge on Katie Piehl and the board of directors for forcing Nykk to choose between MECCA and Lisa. He then revealed that he had been in cahoots with David Caldwell from the start to make sure there was enough chaos that he could come in and seize power. But Caldwell went into business for himself, and Nykk was forced to fight against him all the while telling him privately that he would aid him in victory at the crucial moment. Fox also revealed that his involvement was due to being sorry about what he had done to Lisa, and realizing that he and Nykk would destroy each other if they kept feuding. So he reached out to them and they informed him of their plan. With the addition of Cynric to their group, they quickly disposed of the remnants of the David Caldwell Project and set their sights on the World Title. There seemed to be issues right from the get-go when both Fox and Nykk won a shot at Eddie Crowe. Nykk ended up facing Eddie at New Dawn, but came up short. After the match, Nykk revealed that he had scheduled a second title match with Ronin Fox, who beat an exhausted Eddie to take the title.
With their success, the Pyro Twins, Joey Sprinklers, Huh, and Shadow joined the group, making them even more powerful. The Pyro twins soon won the tag titles, Lisa Letty regained the Ladies' Title, and Cynric won the Toughman Title, giving the House of Lords control over all the belts. Their goals accomplished, Nykk drew the ire of Bryan Danielson, who not only was upset that Nykk and the David Caldwell Project had played him for a fool, but wanted a shot at the World Title. Nykk wanted to settle their rivalry, however, and booked a match between them for Punked Out. They met in a Two out of Three Falls Match, which Danielson won. On the next Go Time, Nykk booked a handicap match against The UK Wrecking Crew, but their domination was short-lived when Austin Lee made his MECCA debut. On the next show, Lee revealed that it was Katie Piehl who had hired him. Even though there was nothing the board of directors could do about Nykk's ownership, what they could do was appoint a new position of authority, which gave Katie the power to book matches as well as hire and fire personnel. She booked a best of three tag team series for Liberty or Death, with the winning side getting the power to book Summertime Showdown the next month. Nykk and Cynric took on Andy Nathans and Jack Fletcher of the UKWC in the deciding match, but lost after interference from Austin Lee. Katie took the opportunity to book Nykk, Cynric, Huh, and Joey against the entire UK Wrecking Crew at Summertime Showdown, as well as Lisa Letty defending the Ladies' Title against Daizee Haze, the Pyro Twins defending the tag belts against Stone and Danielson, and Shadow against Sara Del Rey. However, all House of Lords members won their matches and seemed to be stronger than ever, especially after Alan Mayse joined the group.
Chinks in the Armor
On the August 29 edition of Go Time, Lisa and Nykk were surprised to find a confused Delirious lurking in her dressing room. Convinced that he was a pervert, Nykk booked himself and Lisa against Delirious and a partner at At Your Own Risk, with the stipulation that Delirious would be fired from MECCA if he lost. Katie Piehl countered with the stipulation that if Delirious and his partner won, they would get guaranteed title shots. But before that event, the House of Lords suffered their first real loss when Bryan Danielson won the World Title from Ronin Fox, despite interference from House of Lords members. When At Your Own Risk arrived, Delirious revealed his mystery partner as the masked Shelirious, who bore a similar resemblance to Daizee Haze. Delirious managed to tap Nykk out to win the match, and then Shelirious got on the microphone, cashing in her title shot on Lisa right then and there. Shelirious won the match and took another title from the House of Lords. Delirious wasted no time in cashing in his title shot against the Pyro Twins, and with Matt Sydal as his partner, won those titles. Though Shadow regained the Ladies' Title for the House of Lords at Scared Stiff, Cynric then lost the Toughman Title to The Wild Wolf. The House of Lords shifted their focus to driving a wedge between Danielson and Eddie Crowe, who would be facing off in a World Title Match. Their plan to convince each man that the other was joining the House of Lords backfired and forged a new alliance between Crowe and Danielson. Gearing up for a final battle, Katie Piehl proposed a Best of Five Series for End of the Line, featuring the MECCA loyalists against the House of Lords with control of the company on the line. Nykk drew Kevin Stone, a man he had never defeated, in a one on one match. On the last Go Time before the event, Nykk and Fox won the tag belts from Delirious and Sydal, putting those titles back under their control. Nykk rose to the challenge at End of the Line and defeated Stone, but the deciding match of the night came down to Bryan Danielson and Ronin Fox in a rematch for the World Title. Danielson knocked Fox out, forcing the ref to end the match, and Katie Piehl's contingent came out the winners.
Downfall
On the next Go Time, Nykk stated that in order for the House of Lords to overcome their setbacks, they would have to endure and only the tough would survive. He announced he was downsizing the group, and fired everyone who lost their match at End of the Line, except for Ronin Fox and Shadow, who still had control of the Ladies' Title and one half of the Tag Team Titles respectively. Unlike Alan, Huh, and Joey, Cynric wasn't going to sit back and take his firing lightly and came out the next week to save Bryan Danielson from an attack by Nykk and the Pyro Twins. At Ignition, Nykk challenged Danielson for the World Title and became the first ever two-time champion in company history. Austin Lee then stepped up to the challenge for Bloody Valentine to face Nykk, having gotten a guaranteed title shot for winning the Mixed Tag League Tournament. Not wanting to see the House of Lords with the World Title again, Katie Piehl pitted Nykk against Danielson in a rematch right after he and Fox finished a tough tag title defense against the Pyro Twins, in an attempt to screw him out of the belt. Nykk got himself disqualified to save the title, but the next week Austin Lee showed up with the RCW Championship which he had won from Nykk back on RCW's last show. He proposed that they unify the titles at Bloody Valentine. Nykk beat Austin on the pay-per-view, becoming the last RCW Champion. However, a new challenger emerged in the Six-Man Apocalypse match in the form of Anubis, who came out the winner. Despite the House of Lords's best efforts, they could not stop his momentum and at The MECCA Challenge IV Anubis beat Nykk to take away the World Title from the House of Lords and finally break their power.
Tag Team Specialist
Nykk and Fox lost the tag team belts to The Briscoes on the February 27 episode of Go Time and spent much of the rest of 2008 trying to get in position to get the titles back. They finally won the right to a rematch against the Briscoes at Summertime Showdown, but were unable to regain the belts. Afterward, they feuded with Bryan Danielson and Eddie Crowe, losing to them in a tag team encounter at Scared Stiff. Nykk also made a bid for the Toughman Title, but was unable to get past champion The Necro Butcher at No Regrets.
In December of 2008, Katie Piehl announced the Round Robin Faction War, a tournament between MECCA's five active factions that would begin with the new year and end at The MECCA Challenge V. The round robin matches would be randomized from singles to eight-man tags, and each one had elimination rules, with the surviving members scoring points for their faction. When all the teams had faced each other, the top two scoring teams would square off one more time at the MECCA Challenge with guaranteed title shots on the line while the bottom three factions would be forced to split up. The House of Lords started off strong, with Nykk and Fox surviving and scoring two points against The Consulate in a six-man tag. However, the Consulate took a commanding lead, and the House of Lords and Epsilon Epsilon Epsilon ended up facing off at Melee to break a tie for second place. EEE won the match, forcing the House of Lords to split up. They appeared on the next Go Time to celebrate their time together, but Nykk and Fox ambushed the Pyro Twins out of nowhere. Nykk stated that after a lifelong friendship with them, he and Fox were sick and tired of them and blamed them for focusing on their team rather than the group and causing them to lose in the Round Robin Faction War. Since the Pyro Twins were the current tag team champs, Nykk and Fox challenged them to a title bout at the MECCA Challenge V. Jay and Dusty accepted, but Nykk and Fox were unable to unseat them at the big event, or in the rematch at New Dawn in May. Though they lost, Nykk and Fox earned a new found respect for Jay and Dusty, and the two teams buried the hatchet after the match.
MECCA vs. ROH
In early 2009, Bryan Danielson, who had been simultaneously working for Ring of Honor for years, turned against MECCA fans, seemingly frustrated with how is MECCA career was going. It was soon revealed that he was planning to lead an invasion of MECCA from Ring of Honor by stirring up old animosity between the two companies, and it quickly gained momentum as ROH wrestlers such as Delirious and Roderick Strong joined his cause. Nykk was incensed with some of Danielson's comments and actions, but was tied up with his own business with the Pyro Twins. He promised to answer Danielson's claims soon. On the May 6 episode of Go Time, ROH owner Cary Silkin appeared to clear the air about the two companies. He revealed that he was not sanctioning this invasion, and it was all a plot by Danielson to force a bidding war for his exclusive services. Nykk took the opportunity to come out with Ronin Fox and get a few things off his chest about his history with ROH. He and Fox offered to show up and wrestle at ROH's upcoming shows, and Silkin was open to it. Danielson then entered and provoked a brawl, in which Nykk accientally hit Silkin with a chair. When he came to, Silkin gave his ROH employees permission to go ahead with the invasion and to do what they had to do to finish it.
After finishing their business with the Pyro Twins, Nykk and Fox set their sights on humbling Team ROH. On the June 10 episode of Go Time, he and Fox defeated Strong and Davey Richards in tag team action. At Punked Out later in the month, ROH and MECCA held dual shows in Chicago, with an ROH event taking place during the afternoon and the MECCA pay-per-view taking place during the evening, which meant both locker rooms were in the same building. Nykk defeated Richards in a singles match during the event, and came out after the main event between Fox and Takeshi Morishima to make the save from ROH World Champion Austin Aries, who had attacked his partner with the belt. Nykk got clocked with the title for his efforts, touching off a brawl between both locker rooms. On the next Go Time, ROH commentator Dave Prazak expressed Takeshi Morishima's desire to get on the Contender Star after his win over Fox at the PPV. Nykk accepted the challenge, and though he lost the match, he revealed that in exchange for accepting the match he had struck a deal with Cary Silkin and would challenge Austin Aries for the ROH World Championship at Liberty or Death on July 18, the first time ever that an ROH title would be defended on a MECCA show. At the PPV, Nykk seemingly won the belt when he pinned Aries after ROH senior official Todd Sinclair had been knocked out and replaced with MECCA head referee David Bowers. But Silkin restarted the match, claiming that only an ROH official could officiate an ROH World Title match. Aries quickly used the belt to knock Nykk loopy, and Sinclair stopped the match and awarded it to Aries.
Nykk was enraged over the result of the title match, but got another chance at the belt when Katie Piehl booked a Double Jeopardy Match on Go Time with both the ROH and MECCA World Titles on the line in a Four Way bout. She gave the champions the right to choose the challengers, and Aries looked for an easy way out by picking Kavian, one half of Bloodlust, who didn't have a great singles record. However, Nykk attacked Kavian before the match and took his spot in the contest. The rules stated that if a champion was beaten, the man who did so would win his belt, but if a champion scored the fall the man he beat would not be able to challenge him in MECCA for the title again. However, Aries ended up beating Nykk once again to retain his title. With no more shots at the belt on the horizon, Nykk concentrated on fielding a team of MECCA competitors to meet Team ROH in the Perimeter of Pain main event for Summertime Showdown on August 29. He of course had Fox by his side as a co-captain, and they picked Eddie Crowe, as well as Robbie and Gary, two members of EEE. Danielson chose Morishima, Strong, Richards, and Eddie Edwards for Ring of Honor. The match came down to Nykk and Fox against Danielson. With Fox down on the outside, Nykk faced off against his old rival and finally managed to beat him, with an assist from Fox, sending Team ROH packing from MECCA and ending the feud. On the next Go Time, Austin Aries showed up one more time in MECCA, and Nykk challenged him to a non-title match. He beat Aries in the main event and then made his challenge for an ROH World Title match at an upcoming Ring of Honor event in Dayton.
Break Away
During the fall, Bloodlust began stalking Nykk as a result of Kavian being taken out before the Double Jeopardy Match. They finally made their move on the September 23 edition of Go Time, attacking Nykk and Fox in the ring, and injuring Nykk before their match against The Consulate. Nykk and Fox would go on to win the tag titles from the Consulate, evolving into more of a fun-loving duo than they had ever previously been by dancing for the fans before and during their matches and tricking their opponents into looking foolish. But they never took their eyes off of Bloodlust, and wanted their revenge. They faced off with the vampiric duo at Scared Stiff, but were disqualified after a chaotic match. Nykk and Fox succesfully defended the titles against the likes of the Consulate and FIST, but eventually lost the belts to Bloodlust in a Triangle Match at End of the Line. Citing that neither one of them were beaten during that match, Nykk and Fox sought a rematch, but came up short against Bloodlust in a No DQ Match at Ignition in 2010. Nykk went on to enter the Six-Man Melee match at Six-Man Melee and made it to the final four before being eliminated by eventual winner Alan Mayse. Nykk and Fox went back to setting their sights on the tag belts, which were now held by The Invincible Outlaws. A title match on the March 31 episode of Go Time went to a double disqualification, and Katie Piehl was quick to sign a rematch for The MECCA Challenge VI. However, Nykk and Fox were unable to regain the titles.
Nykk and Fox would continue to team, but Nykk would split his time between the Creation and reconnecting with a former protege, the Wild Wolf. Wolf had lost his confidence after losing his manager, his faction, and his Toughman Title at the MECCA Challenge, and Nykk offered a way to get him back on track, though Fox didn't trust anyone who was in the Consulate. Nykk and Wolf had a match at New Dawn, which Nykk won, but gave Wolf his confidence back. They began teaming regularly, and both qualified for Eight-Man Throwdown at Punked Out the next month. They both ended up being selected for the same team, along with Gran Akuma and Davey Richards. They won, and their team moved on to face one another in a Four Way Dance later in the show. Nykk won the match, a shot at the World Title at Summertime Showdown.
Betrayal and Retirement
Nykk would continue teaming with Wolf, going after the tag titles, and won the World Title from Alan Mayse at Summertime Showdown. It inspired Wolf to work harder to secure a title shot against his mentor, but Nykk didn't want him to get ahead of himself. Nonetheless, Wolf won a battle royale to get a shot at Nykk in early October on Go Time. An accident occurred during the match, and Nykk's knee was badly injured, but he managed to get a desperation win over Wolf. Due to being champion, Nykk refused to get time off to tend to his injury and possibly have to vacate his title. He defeated Austin Lee, again barely, at Scared Stiff. But a new threat had emerged in the form of Jimmy Jacobs and his Absence of Light, who wanted to dismantle MECCA by plunging it into darkness. Jacobs went after Nykk's title and won it on November 17 when Nykk's knee finally gave out on him. Nykk was not able to win it back, and along with Wolf and Jay Crowe challenged the Absence of Light to a Six-Man War at End of the Line. Nykk's team won the match, but afterward he blindsided Wolf and went after his knee, assaulting him to the point that he needed to be stretchered out of the arena.
When Nykk returned on Go Time a couple of weeks later, he revealed that he blamed Wolf for causing his knee injury that ultimately cost him the World Title, and wanted to give him a taste of what he had felt these past few months. He warned Wolf to stay out of MECCA or he was going to get worse. Wolf did eventually return and get a match against Nykk at Six-Man Melee. Nykk won after cheating, and Wolf assaulted him backstage after the match. During the Six-Man Melee match itself, they caused one another to be eliminated. Nykk wanted to end Wolf once and for all, and said if he wanted another chance to meet him in an Anything Goes match at Kick Start. Wolf agreed, and Nykk won the match after hitting Wolf with an Aurora Driver, causing the ref to immediately stop the encounter. EMTs once again came out to stretcher Wolf, but he miraculously got back to his feet and took the fight to Nykk. He ended up putting them both through two tables at ringside, causing them both to be stretchered out. A couple of weeks later, Nykk said he would stop running from Wolf and would settle it once and for all at The MECCA Challenge VII if Wolf put his career on the line. Wolf accepted as long as Nykk was willing to do the same. Nykk felt that since Wolf had never been able to beat him throughout the years, he had nothing to worry about. But at the MECCA Challenge, Wolf finally defeated his mentor, making him tap to his own submission hold, and Nykk was forced out of in-ring competition in MECCA.
A New Role
Nykk made his return a few months later on the September 7 episode of Go Time, invading the broadcast booth and becoming MECCA's newest commentator. At the end of the night, he interrupted World Champion Jamie Chan, who had just accepted a title challenge from Eddie Crowe for At Your Own Risk. Nykk claimed that he was getting into the field of managing, and that Chan had accepted an offer to be his first client. Chan denied this, but as he confronted Nykk, Eddie attacked him from behind. Nykk and Eddie beat down Chan, revealing that it was Eddie who would be Nykk's first client. They continued to attack Chan over the next few weeks, until Chan lost it on September 21, taking it to Nykk and Eddie in the dressing room and a beatdown ensued that spilled out into the hallway and parking lot. Eddie was able to get away in his rental car, but the board of directors handed down a memo that if Chan was disqualified in his match against Eddie at the pay-per-view, he would lose the championship. During the match at the pay-per-view, Nykk and Eddie were able to trick Chan into getting disqualified, bringing the World Title into their camp.
Eddie's first challenge came from Ronin Fox, who attempted to play mind games and convince Eddie that he and Nykk were really in cahoots, just like when Fox took the title from Eddie four years prior. Nykk continually denied this, and exonerated himself by helping Eddie cheat to beat Fox at Scared Stiff. Nykk continued to be by Eddie's side during his subsequent title defenses against the likes of Marcus Kavian and Anubis toward the end of the year.
