Professional wrestling career
Early career
Reno began training initially at the RCW training camp, run by Jon Z in late 2003, and cut his teeth in various independent promotions for the next year. He briefly got the chance to compete in RCW before the promotion went under, and continued training with Nykk and Ronin Fox at the MECCA Training Camp.
Renegade Championship Wrestling (2004-2005)
Tully made his debut as the masked Black Blade on the October 12, 2004, episode of Foundation. He and his partner Bluejay lost to Swinging Justice in tag team action. Later in the night, he competed in one of the 15-man battle royales as part of a tournament for the RCW Television Championship, but was eliminated by Dru Stoke and Aaron Bowman. He rebounded with a win over Shawn Luss the next week. He and Bluejay continued to wrestle mostly preliminary matches until early 2005, when RCW closed down after financial troubles. The competitors would reunite to say goodbye to the fans on May 15 for WrestlingRevolution II, where he teamed with Bluejay in a loss to Alan Mayse and Kevin Stone.
Modern Establishment of Competitive Combat Arts (2005-2013)
Debut
Tully debuted on the July 5, 2005, episode of Go Time as Dreamo, a man bearing somewhat of a vague relation to Sleepo, the narcoleptic backstage worker from RCW. He was an odd fellow who would stumble his way through matches, constantly falling asleep, until his manager Medea Knight would set off an alarm clock, causing Dreamo to wake up and clean house. He won his debut match against Joey Sprinklers. His oddness made him a perfect fit for The Eccentric Alliance, and they quickly recruited him. He teamed with fellow stablemate Delirious to score an upset over Kaientai Deluxe at Summer Showdown in August. He continued backing up the Eccentric Alliance until November, when he formed a team with the returning Concession Boy called The Concession Dream Team. They had some success over the winter months, but could not make it to the next level. At The MECCA Challenge II they competed in a Triangle match against The Killer Kanines and the Ballard Brothers, but lost. They also feuded with Ronin Fox and Cynric, but lost a match to them at Liberty or Death. With Cheesecake's betrayal of Huh soon after, the Eccentric Alliance dissolved, though Dreamo and CB remained a team.
Sports Entertainer
In the fall of 2006, Nykk sold his share of MECCA to David Caldwell, who immediately began trying to transform the company into David Caldwell Sports Entertainment. The CDT joined his faction, The David Caldwell Project, at At Your Own Risk by helping his bodyguards Stage One win in a Triangle match against The Surgeons by hitting them with a loaded pillowcase. The Surgeons wanted revenge, and defeated the CDT on the following Go Time. Dreamo tried hitting Matt Stryker with the pillowcase again, but he got a hold of it and hit CB in the face, dislocating his jaw. Dreamo tried interfering in their match the next week, but got slapped in one year by both men, resulting in temporary hearing loss. The mute CB and the deaf Dreamo teamed with the blind Huh at Scared Stiff and defeated the Surgeons in a Handicap match thanks to David Caldwell. Two months later, the CDT won a Four Corners match at New Year's Knockout and earned a shot at the MECCA Tag Team Championship. They lost their title match against the Killer Kanines on January 10, but received a rematch on January 17 and won the titles after interference from the newest Project acquisition Bryan Danielson.
Caldwell would employ a number of tricks to keep the belts on the CDT, including instituting a five minute time limit on their matches. After retaining the titles against Dreamo's former friends, Delirious and The Human Tornado, at Melee, the Kanines received a rematch on the following Go Time. The Kanines won the titles back, but the CDT attacked after the match. But The Wild Wolf and Anubis were saved by timely intervention from Medea Knight, who had been mistreated for weeks by David Caldwell. She hit CB and Dreamo both with low blows, allowing the Kanines to clean house. The feud between MECCA and the David Caldwell Project was coming to a head, and an Ultimate MECCA Challenge match was set for The MECCA Challenge III in April for control of the company. Dreamo would team with CB, Danielson, Huh, and Jamie Chan, but lose to the team of Nykk, Kevin Stone, Low Ki and the Killer Kanines. After the match, Caldwell was put out of action for good by Nykk after an Aurora Driver.
After the main event, Nykk formed The House of Lords along with Ronin Fox and Lisa Letty and took back all of the power in MECCA, betraying the trust of former co-owner Katie Piehl and all the fans. On the following Go Time, they added Cynric to their group, but were confronted by the remnants of the David Caldwell Project and challenged to a match. Dreamo teamed with Chan and CB, but they were emphatically defeated by Nykk, Fox and Cynric. With no manager and no faction, Dreamo went into a slump. He began competing under the name Robbie Reno, and would only be seen on the undercard for most of the following year, losing most of his matches.
The Wrestling Fraternity
In early 2008, Reno formed a friendship with MECCA rookie Ryan Andrews, who was having a crisis about how to juggle his wrestling career with the fact that he was still in college. In order to loosen him up, Reno suggested a good old fashioned frat party. They then took it a step further and decided to form their own wrestling fraternity, rushing new members. Their new group debuted on March 5, interrupting a match and introducing themselves as Epsilon Epsilon Epsilon, complete with sorority sisters and beer kegs. Robbie and Ryan dropped their last names and introduced new frat brothers Omar, Gary, and Cubby. They then attacked Tristan Lee before being run off by his brother Austin. All five men competed in the Battlebrawl match at The MECCA Challenge IV, but none of them were able to win. They appeared later in the night, taking over the ring and attempting to get a party started before being run off by The Briscoes.
Robbie qualified for the Eight-Man Throwdown at Punked Out, but his team lost the random eight-man tag. In the following weeks, Huh decided that he wanted to be a part of EEE, who regarded him as a joke behind his back. Nonetheless, they made him go through Hell Month, doing demeaning and abusive tasks like having to wash a locker room they had just urinated in with a toothbrush, or being kicked and beaten down while he carried their bags. But Huh balked when it came to drinking a cup of raw sewage from one of their kegs. EEE beat him down before he was rescued by The Lee Brothers. Robbie and Huh continued to feud throughout the summer and fall, with Huh finally getting him one on one at Scared Stiff and scoring the win. With the number of factions rising in late 2008, EEE was ready to stake their claim at the top. On December 3, they saved The Necro Butcher and Irish Airborne from an attack by the House of Lords and The Consulate, putting them in the fans' good graces. Huh also came back into the mix with his own faction, Huh's Hot Dogs.
In response to this, Katie Piehl instituted the Round Robin Faction War, where the factions would face one another in elimination tag matches with a random number of participants. Every survivor meant a point for the faction, and the two top scoring factions at the end would go on to The MECCA Challenge V for one more match, with the winning side's members all getting a guaranteed title shot of their choice. The three lowest scoring factions, however, would be forced to split up. EEE lost their first match in the tournament to Huh's Hot Dogs, but got on the board with a win over the Consulate, scoring two points. They scored another two points on March 18 when Robbie and Ryan survived a six-man tag against Luchacore. This put them even with the House of Lords, who had also scored four points, and were the only matchup left in the tournament. The two factions met in an eight-man elimination tag at Melee, where Robbie teamed with Ryan, Omar, and Gary against Nykk, Fox, and The Pyro Twins. Gary was the sole survivor, making EEE one of the top scoring factions, along with the Consulate. Robbie, Ryan, Gary, Omar, and Cubby teamed against Alan Mayse, Jamie Chan, Yoshiaki Yago, the Wild Wolf and Prince Nana at the MECCA Challenge V, and the match came down to Robbie and Nana. The Consulate tried to interfere, but were taken out by EEE as well as their group's personal superhero Captain Epsilon. That allowed Robbie to pin Nana and win the Round Robin Faction War.
As prominent members of the MECCA roster, EEE got pulled into the war against Team ROH in the spring. Robbie teamed with Ryan and Gary in a six-man tag against Bryan Danielson, Delirious and Takeshi Morishima at New Dawn, but lost. Morishima would deal them another blow when he defeating Ryan in singles competition, injuring his neck and putting him out of action. Robbie once again qualified for Eight-Man Throwdown, and teamed with Jay Crowe and Team ROH's Bryan Danielson and Roderick Strong at Punked Out. Their team won the eight-man tag, and then faced one another in a Four Way Dance later on. However, Robbie was eliminated when Danielson tricked him into getting himself disqualified. As the MECCA vs. ROH feud heated up, a Perimeter of Pain match was announced for Summertime Showdown to settle the score. Team MECCA co-captains recruited Robbie and Gary to be on their side, as well as Eddie Crowe. They went against Danielson, Morishima, Strong, Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards at the show. Robbie was eliminated by Morishima, but Team MECCA went on to win the match, running Team ROH out of MECCA.
On the following Go Time, Cubby turned against Robbie and Gary, jealous over the fact that their careers were on the rise and feeling they had left him behind. Around the same time, Omar also quit EEE and left the company. Realizing it was time to focus on his singles career, Robbie and Gary agreed to dissolve EEE and go their separate ways, and he went back to being Robbie Reno. Robbie then cashed in his guaranteed title shot at Scared Stiff against World Champion Anubis, feeling that after over a year and a half of being champion, Anubis was finally vulnerable enough to take down. Reno gave it his best shot, but Anubis still came out on top. On the following Go Time, Austin Lee confronted Reno and mocked the dissolution of EEE, causing Reno to deck him. Austin retaliated the next week, laying Reno out after his match. This led to a match at No Regrets, which Reno won. Austin wasn't done with him, however, and proposed a dream partner tag for End of the Line. Reno accepted and chose Austin's brother Tristan as his partner. Austin responded by introducing Ryan Andrews as his partner, who was back from his neck injury. Andrews pinned Reno to win the match, and would explain over the next couple of weeks that he was upset over Robbie and Gary dissolving EEE without his consent and all the royalty checks that went with it.
Austin and Ryan would have a falling out over the next few weeks, and a Triangle match was signed for Ignition. This turned out to be a ruse, as Andrews and Lee double teamed Reno during the match. However, Andrews would eventually turn on his ally and pin him to win the bout. Reno would finally get his one on one shot at Andrews at Six-Man Melee, but Andrews won after utilizing a chair. The rematch took place at Kick Start, with Ryan once again trying to use a chair. But it backfired this time, and Reno scored the pin only to be laid out after the match. Since neither man was adhering to the rules, Katie Piehl booked them in the MECCA Challenge match at The MECCA Challenge VI with revised rules, allowing the use of weapons that would be attached to four poles at every ring post. Andrews would go on to win the match, putting an end to their feud.
Reno would continue to attempt to work his way back up the ladder during the spring and fall, but a new threat to MECCA emerged in the form of Jimmy Jacobs and his Absence of Light, whose scare tactics were putting the entire roster on edge. Reno confronted him on July 21, but was beaten down by Jacobs's faceless entities while Jacobs made his escape. They met at Never Say Die, with Reno scoring the win by disqualification after Jacobs stabbed him in the head with a railroad spike. The rematch took place on the August 11 Go Time, this time with Jacobs coming out on top. Reno began to be more and more frustrated with his career, and began taking cheapshots after losses. He went after former World Champion Jamie Chan, jealous over the fact that Chan had surpassed him after their David Caldwell Project days, and they met at Scared Stiff, with Chan scoring the victory. The rematch took place on the following Go Time, and Reno used cheap tactics to pick up an upset win. However, he lost the rubber match to Chan at No Regrets.
Making Money
Around this time, Reno began teaming with Ares, the Permanently Profit Producing Person. They teamed up to get a win over Jamie Chan and Marcus Kavian at End of the Line. In early 2011, they made their partnership permanent, calling themselves Upstarts International, taking on a more business-like persona and adding Amber O'Neal to their group. They worked their way up to a tag title shot at Kick Start, but were unsuccessful. With Ares injured during the match, Reno had to pick a new partner and chose Justin Caron, a promising graduate of the MECCA Training Camp. They defeated FIST on the following Go Time, but then developed an issue with The UK Wrecking Crew after both teams lost in a Triangle match to determine the number one contenders to the titles. Reno and Caron teamed with O'Neal at The MECCA Challenge VII, but lost a six-person mixed tag to the UKWC and Zoe Alexander. Ares returned soon after, and Reno helped him and Caron pick up a win over the UKWC at New Dawn. Sick of the numbers game, the UKWC wanted one more match against them, and didn't care if they had to take on all of them. They got their wish and defeated all three men in a Handicap match at Punked Out.
Upstarts International worked their way back into title contention over the next few months, with Reno and Caron claiming two victories over the team of Marcus Kavian and Gran Akuma in September. Reno and Caron challenged High Def for the titles at Scared Stiff but came up short. Enraged over the title loss, they took it out on Ronin Fox on the next Go Time, as well as High Def. On November 16, they cost High Def the titles by interfering in their defense against Ryan Andrews and Jimmy Rave. The three of them teamed against Fox and High Def in a six-man tag at No Regrets, but lost. Ares and Caron teamed up against High Def once again a couple of weeks later, but once again came up short. In early 2012, Upstarts International entered the Trios Tag League Tournament, and won their first round match against the team of Jamie Chan, Gran Akuma, and Kotoka Shiiba. However, they lost in the semi-finals to Anubis, Low Ki, and The Wild Wolf. Caron was released from MECCA shortly afterward, leaving Reno and Ares to compete in the 12-Man Battlebrawl at The MECCA Challenge VIII. However, both men were eliminated.
Reno and Ares continued teaming over the next year, but were rarely able to break out from the undercard, falling to teams such as The Dark City Fight Club and The Young Bucks. They competed in a tag team battle royale at The MECCA Challenge IX, but were both eliminated. They were released from their contracts shortly afterward due to budget cuts. Their final appearance was on the May 15 episode of Go Time in a loss to The Lee Brothers.
