MASTER PHILO'S SECRETS! Included in this section are some decks I have constructed for competition in Type 2 and Urza's Block Constructed (UBC) Tournament format (UBC format is restricted to cards from the Urza's Saga, Legacy, and Destiny expansion sets). Mono-color decks seem to be the rule in Block Constructed Formats as there are rarely tournament quality multi-color lands available (notable exceptions have included the Ice Age "pain" lands, Reflecting Pool, and Thran Quarry). There is a touch of Black in the Green Deck though (to exercise Yawgmoth's Will). The big advantage of mono colored decks is that you always get the right color mana to cast your spells. NOTE: I never constructed a White Deck for UBC format, so the WHITE Mana Symbol below is used for a decent (now Extended) White deck. Just click on a color (Mana Symbol) above to view a suggested deck design constructed using that color. By the way - in 1998 I did come in 3rd Place in the Rath Cycle Constructed Format (Tempest, Stronghold, and Exodus expansion sets) PTQ in Toledo (48 entries). Last year I didn't fare as well in the PTQ finishing 52nd out of 96 entries (played Blue with Masticores and such but never got on stride). I have been playing Magic for over 5 years so I do have some clues how to win.

The BLACK Deck is an UBC version of one of my old favorites called "Ouch!". It uses discarding as a means of disruptive control and fast fliers and big creatures on the ground. The BLUE Deck is my favorite for UBC casual because it's great fun to play - and it has lots of premium foil cards in it, so it's very pretty too.  But don't be fooled, it can kill too :o) The WHITE Deck is still legal for Extended Format play at the present time (due to Rath Cycle cards rotating out when Mercadian Masques rotated in). The only change I made to it to convert it to Type 2 (aka Standard Format) was the addition of a couple anti-black creatures. It utilizes shadow creatures for offense and En-Kor damage redirection for defense. It's phast, reliable, & phun! The RED Deck is a moderately fast UBC killer that uses fast creatures, direct damage, and creatures that deal damage when they come into play for a nice toasty warm feeling. The GREEN Deck is very quick and would be my personal choice as the UBC deck to beat at the present time. Symbiosis Rules! GOOD LUCK !!!
