The 1953-54 basketball season provided us with many thrills and a different experience for many of us. our team was lead by returning lettermen from the 1952-53 team, Mario DeMatteis. During this year he captured just about every scoring record in the books including, most points in a league season, most foul shots made, and best foul shooting percentage. The team, composed of Roy Daniels, Roger Faigley, William Richardson, Jerry DePalmo, and Mario DeMatteis, compiled an excellent record although we suffered our first Stark County League loss in 65 starts (over a peiod of five years) when Greentown defeated us in our final league game 74-66. The following week we suffered a second consecutive loss, a non-league encounter with Dundee. Even with this sad ending our final season record read 15 won nd 2 lost.
