S/SGT. SAMUEL ORLANDO KILLED ON OKINAWA

S/Sgt. Samuel Orlando, 29, was killed May 5, on Okinawa, the war department has notified his parents, Mr. and Mrs.Angelo Orlando of Waynesburg. He had been serving as an infantryman with the 77th Division.

Sgt. Orlando enlisted in October, 1940, after serving two years in the CCC. He received training at Camp Bullis, Texas, Camp Shelby, Miss., and in Florida and Virginia before going overseas in February, 1944. He served on Saipan and Leyte and was wounded on December, 1944, on Guam, but returned to duty in March after being hospitalized on Guadalcanal. He wore the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Good Conduct Medal and the Pacific Theater Ribbon with four battle stars.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are five brothers, Corp. Guy, in France with the 351st Engineer Battalion, Corp. Joseph with a medical unit in France, Seaman 2/c James in the Pacific, Corp. Marion in Germany and Frank Orlando of Canton, and a sister, Mrs. Carmen Mirto of Waynesburg.
