Fun Facts About JIF!!
-
HOW DID JIF GET IT'S NAME? Jif is short for "jiffy", the amount of time it takes to make a peanut butter sandwich.
- HOW DID I GET MY JIF NAME? Hmmm, wouldn't you all love to know? But I am not telling--only a very special few actually know that story--lol!!!
Now for the actual JIF facts!!
- Jif does not require refridgeration and will stay fresh for approximately three months after opening.
- A 28 ounce jar of Jif contains 1,218 peanuts (isn't your life complete knowing that!!)
- The peanut is not a nut--it is a member of the "pea" family.
- Peanut butter sticks to the roof of your mouth because the high protein content draws moisture from your mouth. (Hmm...I have always wondered why that happens!!)
- According to Americana magazine, the average high school graduate has eaten 1,500 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. (Who likes peanut butter that much???)
- Americans eat 170 million pounds of Jif in a year. That's enough to make 2 billion peanut butter sandwiches or to spread a football field with a layer 55 feet thick. (Hmmm...wonder why they would try that? And what would it be like to play in it?! Lol)
