Last game: Kick-off Classic - Miami 23, Ohio State 12

Next game: Sept. 18th - Ohio University at Ohio State

It's all joy, as OSU rebounds from an opening week loss to Miami, with a win over UCLA. Reggie Germany is congradulated after a big catch which put OSU on the doorstep of the endzone.

4th night game at the 'Shoe proves to be OSU's 21st staright home opening win.

For Buckeye fans watching this weekends OSU versus UCLA game, the first quarter seemed to be a repeat of the opening week lost to Miami. The offense struggled and UCLA had what seemed to be a commanding lead.

And then seemingly out of nowhere, the offense exploded and OSU never looked back. It was good and releaving to see the OSU offense and defense finally preform as they have in the past. It was especially good to see the offense do so well after failing to do anything against Miami. The nation beware, the Buckeyes are back.

Also this Saturday, it was good to see Penn State struggle. They almost lost to a 35 point underdog in Pittsburgh. However, they lucked out. I say lucked out, becaue I think LaVar Arrington should have been gone. After he punched the Pitt punter and was constantly harassing him. Of course, if he was gone, then he wouldn't have been able to block Pitt's field goal that would have tied the game. With Penn State barely winning, it was good to see that they are vulnerable. Just wait until October...

Bellisari lights the fuse that gets OSU's offense going.

It was great to see OSU's offense rolling again. They gained 266 yards passing and 249 on the ground against the Bruin defense. After the Miami game, where they only gained a little over 200 yards, they got rolling again against UCLA. Austin Moherman started again, but again the offense failed to get anything going. And that's when Steve Bellisari entered the game.

After his poor performance against Miami, perhaps Buckeye faithful were afraid that he might not do any better against UCLA. But he flourished. He ignited OSU's dismal offensive display of the first game and turned the Buckeyes on the right track. He seemed to electrify the entire 'Shoe with the way he handled the offense.

Running back Micheal Wily had 112 yards on 22 carries and two scores. Wideouts Ken-Yon Rambo and Reggie Germany showed why the coachs were not afraid with the loss of David Boston and Dee Miller. Germany had 7 catches for 115 yards, while Rambo exploded with 8 for 61, including two scoring strikes from Bellisari.

Bellisari went 11 for 16 for 159 yards and 2 TD's. Moherman played well too, going 10 for 19 for 107 yards. However, Bellisari showed what he brings to the table. Not only can he throw the ball, but he did ran the ball 3 times for 50 yards. And one of the most exciting plays was when he leveled the UCLA lineman on a reverse play.

Defense stays strong against UCLA attack.

The Buckeyes defense held UCLA to 365 total yards of offense. While, they stopped the running game with ease, the Buckeyes big challenge was to stop the passing attack of UCLA. The Bruins have been known to light it up, and their big receivers could have posed a big porblem to the coverage team.

But it proved to be no problem, as the Buckeyes completely shut down all of UCLA's main passing threats. The only real big play the Bruins had, was on a lucky play in the first quarter, when the UCLA fullback scored a long touchdown. The ball was almost picked off, but landed on the back of a UCLA player which was laying on the ground. The ball was scooped up and returned for a TD.

After that play, the Buckeyes defense regrouped and played well the rest of the game. They get a chance to rest with two easy games before the passing attack of Drew Brees and the running attack of Ron Dayne enter the 'Shoe. Photos from the Columbus Dispatch. Logos from ESPN.com.
