Spartans hold Buckeyes to only 79 total yards.
Some mouch for the revenge factor. Going into the showdown against the Spartans in East Lansing, the Buckeyes were fueled by revenge. It was these Spartans that knokced off the Buckeyes last year, 28-24 in Columbus and thus ruined their trip to the National Championship. It was thought that the Buckeyes would hold a grudge as they marched into East Lansing, however, the Spartans were the ones that came away making a statement. The Buckeyes were utterly destroyed, being held to only 79 total yards. They fell behind 17-0 before halftime, after their offense shuttered and special teams gave the Spartans great field postion all game. The loss moves the Buckeyes to 6-4, 3-3 in the Big Ten. Not only that, but it severely hurts the Buckeyes chance at making a New Years Day bowl. However, the Buckeyes still aren't bowl eligible. They must win either next week against Illinois, or in two weeks against that Team up North. |
0 Rushing Yards...only 0 rushing yards
Woody Hayes must have been doing more than just rolling over in his grave. He had to be doing back flips, maybe somersaults. I can't remember the last time an Ohio State team was held to 0 rushing yards. Of course, OSu did have their chances. Ken-Yon Rambo dropped an EASY touchdown catch at the end of the second quarter that could have cut the lead to 17-7 and made this a much different game. |
Defense the only strong part of OSU team
Once again, the only strong part of the OSU team was their defense. Had a couple of plays gone different, this might have been a different game all together. When Plaxico Burress scored it was because Plummer tripped over his own man, which left Burress wide open. Then on fourth and goal Gary Berry couldn't hold on to MSU QB Bill Burke, who then found a receiver open in the endzone to give the Spartans a 17-0 lead. Return to Buckeye Central |
