This page points out various mistakes that take place in "The Wizard Of Oz". While none of this has to do with the Pink Floyd synch, it is interesting and often humorous to point out some of the mistakes in this genuine American classic. Some of these errors are easy to catch, while others are not so noticeable. A big thanks goes out to www.nitpickers.com for some of these errors.
At the beginning of the film, when Dorothy is balancing on the fence and she falls off, notice that when she gets up that she has no mud or dirt on her! Must have been some clean pigs, huh?
When Dorothy goes to Professor Marvel's tent and Marvel begins looking in the crystal ball, notice that Marvel takes a picture of Auntie Em from Dorothy's basket and puts it under his left leg after he examines it. He never returns it to Dorothy! What does he plan to do with that picture? Not really a mistake, but weird nonetheless.
During the tornado sequence when Dorothy first enters the house, the shutters fly off and hit Dorothy in the head. But when the house lands, you see the shutters are back on! Also, when the house is in the air, notice how Dorothy has no trouble standing or how nothing in the house moves very much, despite the fact that the window is wide open!
In the part where Dorothy first meets the Scarecrow on the Yellow Brick Road, notice the pole the Scarecrow is on. It keeps getting longer and shorter! At one point, the pole is behind his head, and at another point, it's well above his head! A really noticeable error.
In the talking tree scene right before Dorothy and the Scarecrow meet the Tinman, you can see Dorothy wearing different shoes! Right after the Scarecrow says "I'll show you how to get apples", Dorothy backs up and you can see she's wearing black shoes, instead of the ruby slippers she was given by The Good Witch! In the next scene, the ruby slippers are back on. This one happens quickly.
When Dorothy and the Scarecrow discover the Tinman, she is told to oil him. Just before he begins to sing "If I Only Had A Heart", he falls backwards. They never oiled his legs until mid-song. How did he move his legs?
At the end of the Tinman's song, the oil can bounces out of Dorothy's basket, but in the next shot, she pulls the oil can out of the basket and uses it to oil the Tinman!
When the Cowardly Lion is singing "If I Were A King", notice that his tail is being moved by a string! This is pretty noticeable.
When the Wicked Witch sends the monkey's to get Dorothy, she tells one of them, "I've sent an insect ahead of you to take the fight out of them". What insect? The answer- a jitterbug, a scene that was cut out of the movie.
In the scene where the Flying Monkey's go to capture Dorothy in the forest, Dorothy is taken and following her is a monkey holding what appears to be Toto. Yet, in the next shot, Toto is being picked up by a monkey! How did that happen?
When the main characters finally meet the Wizard and Toto runs over to the curtain, look at how he opens it. You can clearly see that a string is attached to his collar which helps him open the curtain! This one's real noticeable.
When the Scarecrow gets his "brain" from the Wizard, he quickly whips out a math statement, the Pythagorean Theorem. The Scarecrow states, "The sum of the square roots of any two sides of an isosceles triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side." Close, but not quite. In truth, it's "The sum of the squares of the legs of an isosceles triangle is equal to the square of the hypotenuse." Hell, I hope I wrote that right! All I know is that the Scarecrow's statement is wrong.
In the beginning of the film, Ms. Gulch comes to take away Dorothy's dog, Toto. Dorothy, in return, runs away with the dog. This storyline is the focus of the black and white portion of the movie. However, at the end, Dorothy is so happy being "home again" that she dosen't seem to realize that Toto's just as likely to be taken as he was at the beginning! The dilemna is never resolved and you can't really say it is resolved because Ms. Gulch died in a dream and is still very much alive!! She could come back at any time to take Toto! Sad but true!
