Battle of the Britpop Egos: Liam Gallagher vs Robbie Williams

Who knows how these things get started. Actually, I do. Just before the release of the new Oasis album, lead guitarist and songwriter Noel Gallagher was asked about his much rumored friendship with ex-Take That idol Robbie Williams. Noel said, and I quote "I've never been his friend. I've been in dressing rooms with him, I've had conversations with him, but I wouldn't even consider him to be a friend of mine. Why? Because he was in Take That! He's a fat dancer from Take That. "Somebody who danced for a living. Stick to what you're good at, that's what I always say."

Not willing to take it lying down, Williams retorted by sending the Gallaghers a funeral wreath, with a note that said 'To Noel Gallagher. R.I.P. Heard your latest album - with deepest sympathy, Robbie Williams." He later added in an interview 'Noel's run out of other people's ideas.'

Ever looking for an outlet for his 'dark side', Liam Gallagher was then quoted as saying on the BBC's Big Breakfast "I'm gonna break his fucking nose...You can tell that cunt if I ever see him in a club in London - I'm gonna break his fucking nose. He'll be needing wreaths on his door. Rest in peace!' In regards to the new Oasis album 'It's the best fucking album out this year, better than anything Fatty will ever do'.

Well, Mr. Williams then chose to up the ante. Instead of letting the issue drop, Williams instead challenged Liam Gallagher to a televised bout, and to top it off, set a condition that the loser would have to pay £100,000 to the winner's charity of choice. In reference to his chances of topping Liam in a fight, Wiliams said "He's not very clever so I'll beat him hands down."

Just when it seemed as if this whole thing was too ludicrous to continue, insanity stepped in as dotmusic.com offered to webcast the fight, and actually initiated discussions with both Mr. Williams and Mr. Gallagher to that effect.

Well, as of today, the whole affair has reached a new high (or low, depending on who you ask). Bookies in the UK have been laying odd on the impending fight ,and Lloyd Honeygan, a former world-class title holding boxer, suggested that the pair duke it out at the Elephant and Castle Leisure Center in London. Noting that he had visited Robbie Williams at his home, he stated 'Robbie wants to fight Liam badly. He reminds me of what I was like before I went into the ring. He wants me to take him to the gym and he's really on for this.' Odds-makers have marked Williams at 1-2, Liam at 6-4. Liam, who is in Japan on tour with Oasis, has not yet commented on these latest developments.

So, who do you think will win?
