Mt. Calvary Baptist Church
History

Pastor Rick Duncan of Cuyahoga Valley Community Church called Rev. Randall Black to plant a new Southern Baptist Church that would serve the community of Warrensville Heights and adjoining southeastern suburbs. Rev. Black recruited Rev. James Edwards, Sr. and his wife, Corlett to assist him in establishing Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Rev. Edwards was the Assistant Pastor. Corlett Edwards
was the Church Secretary.

Flyers were mailed and by word of mouth the start of "Something Good" was started. The first worship service of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church was held at the Days Inn Hotel, Sunday, October 20, 1991, approximately 109 people were in attendance. God blessed Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with a continuous growth of devoted members from the first day.

In March of 1992, the Days Inn closed, forcing the church to move. Pastor Tom Walker of Bedford Evangelic Church offered the use of their church facilities for our services. Our worship services were held Sunday afternoon beginning at noon. Our church membership continued to grow. Youth groups were formed, a choir was developed, and the Deacon and Usher board was established.

In November of 1993, Rev. Randall Black resigned as Pastor of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. The church body called Rev. James Edwards, Sr. as Pastor of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Under the leadership of Rev. Edwards, the church began to grow in the spirit of Jesus Christ.

June 1995, it was determined by the Baptist Associational Office that both Bedford Evangelical and Mt. Calvary Baptist Church’s growth were being hindered by having their services in the same facility. Mt. Calvary was requested to move to the Greater Cleveland Baptist Associational Office in Warrensville Heights until a more suitable facility was found.

July 1996, Mt. Calvary began having their worship services at the Old Historical Church of Bedford. As Disciples of Jesus Christ, our goal has been to obey the command of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 28:19-20: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whosoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
