Yep. Another not so nice editorial coming up. If you
don't know what I'm talking about, click on your address
bar, enter http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/, and take a
look around. Done? Okay, now on to the editorial.
cartoonnetwork.com is a great example to new web
designers. As long as you don't do what you see, you
should be fine. In case you haven't followed my
instructions and don't know what I'm talking about,
Cartoon Network's site is probably the most popular
pathetic site on the web. There is almost no text
what so ever. It's all pictures. I don't know about
everyone else, but I get kind of bored waiting for all
the pictures to load on my 28.8K connection. Also, it's
never updated. If you're going to have a large,
commercial website, update it. I've never seen the
layout change, and it really, really needs to. All of
the information I've seen is inaccurate or can be gotten
elsewhere. Their movie clips don't work on my browser,
and the sound cilps take almost as long loading as the
useless pictures. The one plus is the Alternate Universe
gallery, but that almost never gets updated. Of course,
having such a horrible commercial website out on the net
might be a good thing. It gives people who don't have
much experience on the net an example of how bad a site
can be, and something to remind site owners of why
spending time on their page is important.
Peace, Love, Whatever,
