MOTHER'S DAY
"LAND OF THE HEART"

~~~~ ~~~~
These pages are dedicated to my mother Catherine Rita.
"Land of the Heart"
Springtime, the perfect time
of the year to celebrate Mother's Day.
When everything around us is being reborn.
When there is a fresh new aroma in the air.
and a lilt in our steps.
When there is a broad smile on our face.
and life begins anew.
A life given to us out of love,
a love that is never ending.
The gift from the heart,
love that is always enduring.
Love that is always understanding.
A love that is always there,
to pick us up when we fall
or loose our way.
For these are gifts our Mothers give to us,
the gift of love and life.
Gifts that were given of love,
from The Land of the Heart.
Irish Toast And Blessings
Mothers hold their children's hands
for just a little while...
And their hearts forever.
~~~~
May I see you grey
And combing your
grandchildren's hair.
~~~~
May there be a generation of children
On the children of your children.
From: Tom's World--Sláinte! Toasts, Blessings,
M-o-t-h-e-r
   "M" is for the million things she gave me,
"O" means only that she's growing old,
"T" is for the tears she shed to save me,
"H" is for her heart of purest gold  ;
     "E" is for her eyes, with love-light shining,
      "R" means right, and right she'll always be,
Put them all together, they spell
"Mother,"
A word that means the world to me.
GRANDMA
If I were granted any wish,
I'll tell you what I'd do,...
I'd wish my kids were small again,
for just a month or two.
~~~~
To hear their squeals of laughter,
to watch them while they play.
And when they ask me to join in,
I'd NOT say "Not today."
~~~~
To hug again their chubby frame,
to kiss away their tears,
and cherish childhood innocences
that's washed away the years.
~~~~
Then when it's story time again,
I'd stay a little longer,
to answer questions, sing the songs,
so memories would be stronger.
~~~~
But time is callous, wishes, myth,
yet God in all his wisdom,
has given me another chance
before I join his kingdom.
~~~~
The face may not be just the same,
the name is changed, 'tis true,
but yet the smile that radiates,
reminds me so of you.
~~~~
God must have known that Grandma
would need a chance or two.
For many little happy things
she hadn't time to do.
~~~~
So God gave love to Grandmas
to equal that before,
that, in effect embraces
those little lives she bore.

Mother-in-law
Mother-in-law they say, and yet
Somehow I simply can't forget
"Twas you who watched his baby ways,
Who taught him his first hymn of praise,
Who smiled on him with loving pride,
When he first toddled by your side.

Mother-in-law but oh, 'twas you
Who taught him to be kind and true;
When he was tired, almost asleep,
'Twas to your arms he used to creep.
And when he bruised his tiny knee,
'Twas you who kissed it tenderly.

"Mother-in-law" they say, and yet
Somehow I never shall forget
How much I owe
To you, who taught him how to grow.
You trained your son to look above,
You made of him the man I love.

Mother-in-law, they say
I'll think of that throughout my years
then with a thankful heart I'll say
Mother-in-law, they say,
I'll say, no, mother in love,
Our Mother

The Song of the Old Mother
I RISE in the dawn, and I kneel and blow
Till the seed of the fire flicker and glow.
And then I must scrub, and bake, and sweep,
Till stars are beginning to blink and peep;
But the young lie long and dream in their bed
Of the matching of ribbons, the blue and the red,
And their day goes over in idleness,
And they sigh if the wind but lift up a tress.
While I must work, because I am old
And the seed of the fire gets feeble and cold.

"THE ROSE"
Some say love, it is a river that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love, it is a razor that leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love, it is a hunger, an endless aching need.
I say love, it is a flower, and you it's only seed.

~~~~ ~~~~
It's the heart, afraid of breaking, that never learns to dance
It's the dream, afraid of waking, that never takes a chance.
It's the one who won't be taken, who cannot seem to give.
And the soul, afraid of dyin', that never learns to live.
~~~~ ~~~~
When the night has been too lonely,
and the road has been too long,
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong,
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows,
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love,
in the spring becomes The Rose.
