Biography
Rut started out as a 3 piece with Sean Overberger on guitar/vocals, Ray Morris on bass/vocals and Matt Luft on drums. In the summer of 1999, they attended a practice for their friend Larry's band, who was just getting started. One of the band's singers, Dennis Moore (of Days After fame), became friends with Rut and they soon decided to let Dennis sing instead of Sean and Ray. Shortly after Matt had creative differences with the band and left them. They picked up Larry as their drummer shortly after Matt left, which ended Larry's other project band. Sean suggested that they add a second guitarist, and before you know it, Ed Nemergut (Soulbleed, Pi, brief stints in Downshift and Days After) was added to the band. Just as the band was starting to write new material, Larry started losing interest in the band and spending more and more time away from it. Ray was a talented drummer as well as bassist, so they practiced bassist-less for a few weeks until Ed suggested they give his friend Jason Carlson (Soulbleed), who was in Larry's side project as well, a tryout as bassist. After 2 weeks of practicing, Jason had all of their songs down and they officially let him in the band. The band finally got everything together and started writing new material, when Dennis decided to leave the band. Ed and Jason suggested they try-out ex-Soulbleed and Pi singer, Eric Hess. Eric came in and practiced with the band for a week, and from the first day they knew he fit in perfect with Rut. They already had a few shows scheduled so they had to delay writing new material yet again. Finally after their booked shows were finished, they took all of November 1999 off to write new material. On December 17th, 1999 Rut played Winterfest at The Cove in Geneva, Ohio and got huge compliments by bands like Uncle No, Odious Sanction, Cryptkicker and Pale Creation
on their new material. They continue to write new material and gain new fans to this day. They are recording their 4 song demo, "Failure" at the end of January in Mushroomhead's Studio. Look for it's release some time in March/April, and look for a possible Uncle No/Rut split cd some time this summer.
