Horse Mushrooms

Hello; Just what the heck is a Horse Mushroom? A Horse Mushroom is one of the largest mushrooms in the genus agaricus. It grows up to 12 inches across and a foot tall. This mushroom belongs to the same genus as the white button mushroom in your local grocery store, but that's where the similarity ends. Besides growing to enormous sizes the Horse Mushroom has a delectable flavor. It's sort of mushroomy with a touch of anise or licorce in it. You can use it in any recipe that calls for mushrooms. It's very versatile and adds a wild flavor to any dish. This mushroom fruits from late summer into early fall. Be careful not to mistake this mushroom with a member of the amanita family(which have white gills and spores) or the dangerous Lepiota Molydites(which has greenish spores).
