What Your Shih Tzu Will Ask Of You

When I am young and silly, don’t expect more of me
than you would of a human child.
If I am too loud or I break something,
I was only playing. I did not do it to anger you.

You can satisfy your own hunger or thirst. I cannot.
I depend on you for everything. You say things like
I’m dying of thirst. Remember, I can’t talk.

When it is cold or raining,
do not resent having to take me out.
You would gladly grab a coat and go out
with your friends.
I am your most devoted friend.

Before you would hit me, remember that I have 42 sharp teeth
and can crush a bone,
yet I chose not to bite you when you punish me.

I watch over you in the night
and I comfort you when you feel bad.
I would do anything for you.
Can you afford not to help me when I am sick or hurt?

You have TV, your job. I have only you.
Talk to me every day and let me know you care.
I may not understand your other words but when I hear my name,
I know you mean ME and that I matter to you.

If sharing your life with me becomes too much of an inconvenience,
please, at least find someone else whom you know will love
and take care of me. It is the least you can do.

Before you scold me for being stupid or troublesome,
ask yourself if I could be sick.
Maybe I’m just getting older and more forgetful.

Give me comfort, patience and reassurance in my final years.
In so doing, you will deserve no less when you are old and feeble.
Do not hang on beyond what I can endure and please,
go with me when it is time.
Do not let me face this alone.
I have always felt safe when you are there.
Because I love you.

The best thing you can do for your pet is to
place an identification microchip in them.

Microchips used in pets in theUnited States
safely comply with a standard chosen by Animal
shelters and animal control officers.
Veterinarians also use microchips that comply with the United States standard.
When choosing what type of chip and or scanner
you want to buy, here are some points to consider:

Scanner Type:
AVID Multil Scanner
Chips this Scanner Reads:
AVID Friend Chips
Avid Multi (Euro)chips
HomeAgain chips.

(This is a good choice if you do rescue, shelter or vet work.
Also a good choice if you want to read ALL chips)

AVID ‘Only’ Scanner:
Reads Only the AVID Secure (Friend) Chip

(A good choice if you own animals with AVID Secure chips
or want to get started with a widely accepted and cost effective microchip system)

Destron (HomeAgain) Scanner:
Reads Destron (HomeAgain) and AVID Universal chips
(A choice if you already have Destron (HomeAgain) chips)

NOTE: Shelters have Multi equipment.
So if a pet is lost, the shelter can detect
and read the microchip - AVID or Home Again.

There has been a foreign made chip being
implanted in Banfield Pet Hospitals, at PetSmarts locations,
that does not comply with the United States Standard for pet recovery
- due to it's non-standard frequency the chip can not be read by shelters.
It is recommend that you do not have this chip implanted in any pet.
Shelters cannot read it, as it operates at a different frequency
from chips used in America.
If you have this chip in your pet it is basically worthless
and needs to be replaced with an AVID or Home Again chip.

People has their own way of thinking on Shih Tzu's.
I tend to follow the AKC reports on them.
Others Breeders will still call them imperial Shih Tzu's
because of the size. People want smaller dogs so
some breeders will down size their Shih Tzu's and call
them imperial Shih Tzu's. In my way of thinking there
is no such thing as an imperial shih tzu's.

I talk to one lady last week. She told me she had
a very rare Shih Tzu. When I ask her in what way.
She had the mark, Mark! what mark I ask?
On top of her head, she said it was a thumb print of
an Emperor on top of her head. Unbelievable what some
breeders will tell a customer to sale their puppies.
When I told her there were no such thing she was really upset
that she was told that. In short, if you are going to buy
a Shih Tzu read up on them thru AKC reports.
Most people will ask me if mine are show quality..Mine are far from it.
Mine are between 9 - 16 pounds..Even tho I do have smaller ones.
Not on purpose it is just the way they are.

I am far from being and expert. All I have is the Love of a Shih Tzu.
The colors I know can be special. If you want a certain color you may have to pay for it.
I, myself happen to want a solid black. I seem to have no luck on that
because when I set off to get me a solid black there is different ONE that steals my heart.
Needless to say there goes my black one.

All Breeders have their own thoughts on Shih Tzu..Mine are no different.
Just be aware of what a breeder will tell you.
Find a good one..Akc will have a list on what to look for.

For some reason Puffer wants this little brown toy next to her babies
One female is sold for sure
I have one female and four males left. Shih tuz's puppies tend to change colors a lot. This
time I think I got a great mixed..
One will be black and white , some brown and white,
A black one with very little white. Almost a solid black. Very pretty one there.

The black one that I thought was
going to be solid
Has some brown mixed in with him

7 weeks old.

I have been getting alot of E-mails on what is my policy
on getting a puppy. At 6 weeks old I start advertising them.
Who ever wants a puppy, picks out the one they want and gives me
a $100.00 deposit (non refundable) to hold puppy until 8 weeks old.
The $100.00 goes against the price of the $400.00 for the puppy.
The balance in cash when you pick up the puppy.
I get them vet check along with their first shots and deworming.

I started something new this year
I charge 400.00 for a puppy, but if you want the puppy mico chip
I will do that for an extra $50.00.
I will give you the prepaid form to send in at the time you pick up puppy.
Along with the litter papers.

The Myth about Imperial or Tiny Teacup Shih Tzu

The words "imperial" and "tiny teacup"
have been used interchangeably when describing undersized Shih Tzu.
This is not what the American Shih Tzu Club (ASTC)
and the American Kennel Club (AKC) recommend
and accept as good breed representation.
The terms "imperial’ or ‘tiny teacup’ should be regarded as ....A MYTH.

Maybe you read an ad in your local newspaper, searched the Internet,
or know of someone who acquired a Shih Tzu
using these words to describe how unusual and special
(and even more expensive?) their dog may be.

The official breed standard for the Shih Tzu calls for a weight range of 9-16 pounds.
Why would anyone want to steer away from the weight called for in the AKC.
approved breed standard or to call the breed by anything but its AKC. recognized name?
Could it be a fad they have created in order to obtain a higher price?
These particular breeders have deliberately downsized
an already designated toy breed. By doing this,
they risk the overall health and wonderful distinguishing characteristics of our breed.
Many of these less reputable breeders claim that their Shih Tzu
possess the ‘imperial’ gene. There is no proof that such a gene exists.
Size reduction occures by breeding the smallest dog in a litter
to another small dog of another litter, and so on and so forth.
This not only creates an abnormally small Shih Tzu,
but also puppies that may have health problems.
This is not indicative of an ‘imperial gene’
but rather of poor breeding practices.

A resonsible breeder does not advertise an occasional ‘runt’ as an ‘imperial’
or ‘tiny teacup’ Shih Tzu. Rather, it is sold as a pet,
solely as a companion dog that is not used for breeding.
Responsible breeders strive to breed healthy dogs that conform to the breed standard.
The ideal Shih Tzu is a sturday, active, healthy dog with good substance for its size.
Those desiring a very tiny pet should choose another breed
rather than destroying the very characteristics
that make the Shih Tzu such an idea companion.

There is no such thing as an AKC Imperial or Tiny Teacup Shih Tzu.
Any registry other than the American Kennel Club
is not recognized by the American Shih Tzu Club.
Breeders using alternative registries may have lost their
AKC registration and breeding privileges for various reasons.

I would like to caution everyone reading ads, searching the Internet
or who has heard the description of Shih Tzu as “imperial” or “tiny teacup”
to conduct further research before making a purchase.
This American Shih Tzu Club website (http://www.shihtzu.org)
is a good place to begin or continue your research on our breed.
There also are many good books about dog breeds,
care and training to be found in most public libraries.
Especially recommended is the AKC’s “The Complete Dog Book”
which has a chapter on every recognized breed of dog.
