Since I am a Business major I plan to get a corporate career someday, but I will take off from my job once I have children so I can be there to raise them. I don't believe in the glass ceiling - I plan on working my way to the top. I don't think being a woman is hindering me at all - those feminists WANT you to believe that. But at the same time, I still don't want to be exactly equal to any man. (I am proud of being a woman and I'm happy about my feminine differences!) If I get lower pay for being a chick, who cares? It's not that fair, but there are reasons for that sort of thing. Most of those men are probably the sole bread-winners of their family and need the extra money to support their children and wife. I will be working, and so will my husband so it won't matter. When I have children, I will take off of work - so maybe the company that I work for won't want to invest as much money in me because I won't be there until retirement unlike my fellow male co-workers. It's something women have to deal with. I wish those feminists would just shut up about it already!
I have *complete* respect for stay-at-home moms. Being a mother is the MOST IMPORTANT job any woman can have. It probably is the most difficult too, but it yields the greatest rewards. I think it is sad how other women look down on SAHMs - SAHMs should be our national treasure rather than the butt of jokes by "corporate" woman! I feel so lucky that my mom stayed at home to raise me. And she actually feels that she was LUCKY enough to not have to work and could concentrate on raising me. I will feel lucky that I will be able to stay at home to help my kids grow into wonderful adults. I wouldn't want to miss that for the world. When they are old, maybe I can go back to work. Or maybe I can somehow work at home when they still young. I don't care really, either way my children will always come first.
I respect corporate women, but I think it is bad when they put their careers first before their own kids. Many women complain that it is unfair how we generally have to make a choice between being moms or being working women and that men don't have to worry about it because they can just work and not be expected to be the care-givers of their children. I see it in a completely different light though - I feel so lucky that I have the option of being a mother! I don't HAVE to work if I don't want to, I can be at SAHM! Men don't really have that choice - but I do! :o) I truly feel like I lucked out.
One last thing, I am very proud of being "old-fashioned". It seems that a lot of women now-a-days think being called old-fashioned is some sort of an insult. To me, it is quite a compliment!
I have a Jeep Wrangler (it's a 1998 Sport in gunmetal gray with a 4.0 liter inline-6 engine, hard and soft tops in black...it's my baby!). My dad drives a Ford F150 pickup, and used to drive a Chevy Blazer. My mom drives a Land Rover Discovery. My boyfriend drives a Chevy Blazer, and used to drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo (it was a gas hog, but we loved it). So, as you can see, my family, my loved ones, and myself all drive big vehicles. I guess you could say that we are a clan of Four Wheelin' freaks. I love my Jeep. It gets me wherever I want to go - it is great in those harsh Ohio winters. I just love it to pieces! My parents and my boyfriend love their vehicles too. I have NOTHING against cars. Cars are nice sometimes. Before I had my Jeep, I used to drive an old '84 BMW 3.18i. It was a great little car and got me everywhere I wanted to go. It's still holding up! But now, I feel so strange in a car. I LOVE being up so high in my SUV. I particularly like towering above all of the little cars - and I am not afraid to admit it. Who wouldn't enjoy that? If you don't enjoy that, you aren't American! (Kidding!) Yeah, my Jeep might not get the best gas mileage in the world, but it is totally worth it. I think SUVs are great and I feel so lucky to own one.
I have a HUGE problem with people who are against SUVs. "Oh no, SUVs are sooo bad! They have an unfair advantage over other smaller cars!" ... "SUVs are horrible for the environment! They waste so much gas. They cause extra pollution. They should be banned!" Comments like these make me irate. SUVs are not bad. We should be allowed to drive whatever type of car we want, whether it is a huge Suburban or a tiny VW Beetle. If people feel unsafe with SUVs on the road while they are in their little car, they should just get off of the road. I think they have one of two choices: #1 Shut up and deal with it! #2 Get an SUV so it makes you feel more "advantaged". A while ago I was watching 20/20 and they did a report on SUVs and how people feel about them. I was in an outrage at all of the people who want to get them banned. I doubt that would ever happen, but thinking about a day when the government bans large, four-wheel drive vehicles because they are unfair for the small cars will be completely insane. Sorry, but you can't take away everything that could potentially cause problems. If people would just live their lives without worrying about the dangers of everything and would stop begging the government for protection against things that are out of their control, the world would be a better place. SUVs are here to stay, so get over it!
Alrighty, on to Mr. Lieberman. This rant isn't really about Lieberman – it's mostly about the media's handling of the situation. I think it is completely unfair how the media jumps all over Bush for saying that his personal hero is Jesus Christ, but when Lieberman talks about God and his Jewish faith, all of the media gushes and declares things like "Lieberman is so great – he is such a moral, religious man with a strong faith in his religion." Whatsupwitdat?!?! When Bush speaks of his Christian values, it's treated as being soooooo lame. When Lieberman talks about his Jewish heritage, it is admirable. What is the difference?! Both men have a strong faith in their respective religions, but why is their treatment by the media so different? I am not saying that the media shouldn't praise Lieberman for being Jewish. I personally think it is wonderful that he has such a strong belief in God. But I think Bush deserves the same amount of respect for his devotion to Jesus Christ. It is only fair.
The world is so strange anymore. People aren't supposed to speak one negative word against Jews, Hindus, Muslims, as wells as Blacks, Latinos, Homosexuals, Women, or any other minorities. But who is protecting the Christians, Whites, and Men from the same negativity? If we are going to be fair, let's be fair to EVERYONE! If people are going to demand equal treatment, they should treat EVERYONE equally. So, the bottom line is this...Bush should be praised for being a Christian. He is just as devoted to his faith as Lieberman, and if Lieberman is being regarded as this great man because of his devotion to religion, Bush should be regarded great as well.
