White Collar
It might seem like a cliche, the Fed and the Conman. But it works on so many levels! And here's why:
Bomer and DeKay have Amazing!!!! chemistry. They can play it any way you want it--enemies, friends, friends with benefits, lovers, father and son, cop and robber, good guys, bad guys, good guy and bad guy (either way). Whatever a scene calls for, these two actors can do it. And not only can they give us what's on the page, they can play those words with a mix of emotions that can make you laugh, cry and dance.
The diverse characters are all awesome! Go Mozzie, who is the perfect comedy relief when needed, but also such a caring and empathetic character that seriously, we all lost our shit at the mid season end of season two!! Diana, defying stereotypes as a beautiful lesbian with a beautiful partner, and the show doesn't make an issue of it. White Collar is teaching tolerance and acceptance as it entertains. Can't forget Jones, who was set up to be the "muscle", but turned out to be full of layers and just as smart as the two leads, oft described as the smartest guys in the room! Oh and El, oh El!!! She's the perfect wife and she and Peter are perfect together--in a tvland of dramas where there's no way a marriage won't fail, you can count on Peter and El to always work it out, no matter what happens. Well played Mrs. Suit, well played!
Okay, yes, Bomer is ridiculously hot, and shirtless, although not nearly often enough IMHO *L* but that's really just a bonus. The fact is that Jeff Eastin has created a slick entertaining show that works on the surface, but is also an indepth character study of the lawful and the lawless, and a compelling look at just how grey the shades are between the two.
