S is obviously for Star Wars

XF is a serious addiction, but it's a new kid on the block. It's been 28 years of being 12 and building a repair shop for droid action figures. Of being 15 and wishing Han Solo could be my dad. Of being 18 and writing out the number of days until Return of the Jedi on the inside of our school locker....in indelible ink....Of phoning that radio station and spelling "wookiee" to win tickets to a midnight showing of TESB. Since 1983 and getting that "filmed in the theater" bootleg of ROTJ. Of collecting the chachi old action figures and the less chachi new ones. Of jigsaw puzzles and Pez dispensers. Collector cards, game cards and novelizations. Writing that first fan fic at age 12 "R2D2 and C3P0 Visit Calgary". Knowing who the gaffer on Ep. 4 was. Being able to quote not just the words, but the sound effects. Seeing that guy in grade 11 in the Han Solo shirt and jacket, and demanding to be loved. Years of waiting and speculating, only to be thrilled by Phantom Menace, less annoyed with Jar Jar Binks then the rest of the universe and completely underwhelmed by Jake Lloyd. And more Darth Maul--geez, Lucas, he was amazing you should have saved him for Ep2. Of the Meco SW theme, and Weird Al's The Saga Begins. Of not being able to watch that block of carbonite fall to the floor, and of loathing Alan Dean Foster's writing style. It's collecting comics and candy wrappers, stickers and games. Buying the same damned videos over and over to get more scenes, new scenes, deleted scenes and special features. It's Harrison, Mark and Carrie. And Ewan, Hayden and Natalie. It's knowing the Dykstraflex camera was invented for SW, and just how many little people make Jabba the Hutt drool. It's lineups for tickets and lineups for shows. It's geeks in Jedi robes with plastic lightsabers and wanting to be one of them. It's the amazing images, now leaping effortlessly from the Lucas brain to the screen thanks to new technology--most of which he owns...It's the story of a boy and a girl and a galaxy (from the original trailer).
