So Far Away-Rod Stewart:
Y'know, it's funny. You can find people everywhere. You can go out on the street and see someone that you see every day. Someone who actually means something to you, I mean, not just a total stranger. And you can chat about the weather, which is abysmally cold today, by the by, or about your job, or about that guy that tricked with that other guy last night and how they both squick you out so bad but wow! That other guy, he was so hot...and blah blah, bleah...You can do all that sort of thing, and not make any sort of emotional connection beyond a recognition of two people on part of the same path, physically, together.
and at the same time, you can type words onto a page, or hear a voice belonging to a person you've never laid eyes on, never touched, never even been in the same time zone as. You might have seen pics of them, you might not have. You might have an idea geographically where they are, but you've never trod the same piece of sidewalk. You might not ever get a chance to touch an arm, hold a hand, see yourself reflected in that other person's eyes.
But somehow those relationships--the ones not based on proximity, but on genuine kindness, caring, dare we say it, love and true friendship--those are the ones that make it all worthwhile...

So Far Away--Rod Stewart version

So far away
Doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore
It will be so fine to see your face at my door
And it doesn't help to know that your just time away
Long ago I reached for you and there you stood
Holding you again could only do me good
Oh how I wish I could
but you're so far away

One more song about moving along the highway
I can't say much of anything that's new
But if I could only work this life out my way
I'd rather spend it being close to you
but you're so far away
Doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore
It will be so fine to see your face at my door
And it doesn't help to know you're so far away
So far away, yeah you're so far away

Traveling around sure get's me down and lonely
Nothing else to do but close my mind
And I sure hope the road don't get to own me
There's so many dreams that I've yet to find
But you're so far away
Doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore
It will be so fine to see your face at my door
And it doesn't help to know
you're so far away, you're so far away
You're so far away, you're so far away
Oh I need to get in touch with ya baby
You're so very, very, very far away
You're so, so far away
