I put this song on this morning, before becoming aware of all the facts. It still works. The power of friends. Their ability to love, to hurt, to cheer, to scare, to be, and let you be too. To surprise you with acts of kindness, and commiserate by mocking with the best of 'em. To not be around, and then come flying in for coffee and you can chatter the night away like you've never been apart. Or to spend hours and hours together and marvel that there's always something you didn't know, wanted to share, can find to say.
Friends are right next door, down the hall, across the street, down the block, across town, in the next city, next province, next country or on the other side of the world.
Friends never tire of you, even when you tire of yourself.
There's always time to tell a friend something, and friends always find time to listen. Friends will tell you that you look amazing when you don't, and tell you that you're funny looking when you are too. Depends on what you need.
Friends always know what you need.
For friends, the coffee will always be on....

"You've Got a Friend in Me" - Written and Performed By Randy Newman
(nominated for Best Song Oscar, 1995)

You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me
When the road looks rough ahead,
And you're miles and miles from your nice warm bed
You just remember what your old pal said,
Boy, you've got a friend in me
Yeah, you've got a friend in me

You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me
You got troubles,
and I got them too
There isn't anything
I wouldn't do for you
We stick together, we can see it through
Cause you've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me

Some other folks might be a little bit smarter than I am
Bigger and stronger too
Maybe
but none of them
will ever love you
the way I do
it's me and you, boy

And as the years go by,
Our friendship will never die
You're gonna see it's our destiny
You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me
